From the reaction of the compass, it seemed that this Five Spirits was quite a high-grade one. It was a level above my own Five Spirits, and such a level of Five Spirits could not be summoned without at least twenty or thirty years of cultivation. This clearly indicated that the old man standing at the entrance was definitely not an ordinary person. Compared to that Wang, one was in the heavens while the other was on the ground.
Just as they could not see Liu Bi, I too could not see that Five Spirits. However, judging by the situation, Liu Bi must have already exited Wang's body because I saw Wang sway slightly before collapsing to the ground. A few seconds later, Liu Bi appeared beside me and said, "Brother, an old Taoist has come; I can't act against his Five Spirits. Sigh, what a mistake. How did I forget to close the door when I came in?"
I nodded and quietly asked, "How do you compare to that Five Spirits?"
Liu Bi replied, "We're about equal; if I don't move against it, it won't act against me either. Right now, it's protecting Wang."
Five Spirits are specifically used to deal with Spirit Gods. Liu Bi said he was about equal to it, which meant that this old Taoist alone probably couldn't handle Liu Bi. But then again, thinking back to how that Imposter Yincai had worn me down, it was only after my master and Master Pan teamed up that we managed to deal with it. Now Liu Bi's level was already comparable to that Imposter Yincai. I believed that this Master’s cultivation should be inferior to either my master or Master Pan. This meant that even if he stood on Wang's side, we had nothing to fear.
Seeing that I didn't respond to him, the Master stepped into the middle of the hall and asked me, "Which sect do you belong to?"
I looked at the Master and replied, "Just a small sect; what brings you here?"
"Hmph! What brings me here? You used ghostly techniques to harm my disciple; as his master, can I just ignore this? Do you think just because you know a thing or two you can act recklessly?" The Master said coldly.
Upon hearing this, I understood; it turned out that Wang indeed had a master who was quite capable. But isn't our line of work supposed to emphasize character when taking in disciples? How could such a disciple be accepted?
I picked up my Oiled Paper Umbrella and pointed at the unconscious Wang on the ground, saying loudly, "The heavens are clear; do you know what your disciple has done? If you don't know, I can tell you. If you do know, then we have nothing more to discuss. We each have our own abilities; I believe I have acted with integrity. If you choose to assist evil deeds, then so be it."
Seeing me say this, the Master furrowed his brows and glanced at Wang on the ground before asking in confusion, "Why don’t you tell me what he has done?"
I felt speechless inside; what kind of disciple acceptance process does this Master have? Doesn’t he consider character? Or has he taken in too many disciples and lost interest in evaluating them? Judging by Wang's cultivation level, he must have just entered the field not long ago. No wonder when I called another master earlier, he said Wang had no real skills and only dabbled in some crooked ways; he even mentioned that Wang wasn't considered part of their circle.
"Why don’t you ask him yourself? I’d rather not say anything lest you think I'm slandering him." I maintained a friendly tone while pointing with my umbrella at the still-lying Wang.
The Master did not move but began focusing on my Oiled Paper Umbrella. After watching for a few seconds, he exclaimed in surprise, "Your Oiled Paper Umbrella..." Before finishing his sentence, he took two steps toward me and continued, "Let me see it."
I closed the umbrella and placed it behind my back, saying, "I'm sorry, senior, but this umbrella isn't mine. It's a friend's, and I can't give it to you without their consent."
"Then could you open it for me to see the runes inside?" the Master persisted, his tone becoming calmer.
I smiled and shook my head, apologizing once more.
The runes inside were all related to Nourishing the Soul, and they were quite ancient, clearly intended for that purpose. Such things are treasures to anyone in the field. Whether this Master was an enemy or a friend was still uncertain; there was no reason for me to show him.
Seeing my indifference, his expression darkened as he asked, "Is your friend the shameless ghost that just possessed my disciple?"
"Yes, it's a ghost, but it's not shameless. Compared to your disciple, it's far more noble," I replied firmly. This Master seemed to lack discernment between right and wrong, making arbitrary judgments based on his seniority, which I found quite distasteful. I had encountered many Masters in the field; while they all had their pride, they still adhered to principles of conduct and understood right from wrong. Of course, there were those few who acted recklessly due to their abilities, but they were rare. This Master was one of them.
"A ghost lingering in the human realm is shameless; this is not where it belongs. Today, I will send it down," the Master declared seriously, adopting a righteous demeanor.
Just as I was about to retort, the umbrella slipped from my hand and was caught by Liu Bi. Not only did it take the umbrella away, but it also revealed its true form. Standing upright with the umbrella pointed at the Senior Master, Liu Bi said, "Old Man, this umbrella is mine. I'm leaving it in Yangjian; what can you do about it? If you want to see it, I'll show you."
After Liu Bi spoke, it opened the umbrella and faced the rune side toward the Master.
As Liu Bi emerged, those who had been lurking in the corner reacted even more frantically. They began cursing incessantly in an attempt to soothe their inner fear.
"The Soul-keeping Umbrella! These runes are ancient runes—such a good item..." The Master's eyes sparkled with greed as he instinctively moved closer.
Before he could continue speaking, Liu Bi closed the umbrella and said, "No matter how good it is, it has nothing to do with you. It's mine."
Seeing Liu Bi put away the umbrella snapped the Master back to reality. His gaze turned sharper as he shouted loudly, "You, as a Taoist Disciple, consort with ghosts! You, as a ghost, refuse Reincarnation and wreak havoc in Yangjian! Today I will act on behalf of justice!"
His voice was loud; to me, it seemed like he was merely looking for an excuse for his next actions. However, what he didn't know was that his Five Spirits couldn't do anything to Liu Bi.
Sure enough, he began chanting a spell—a familiar incantation meant to control Five Spirits for soul capture. Liu Bi handed me the umbrella and said, "Brother, hold onto this for now; I'm going to have a chat with that illustrious Five Spirits."
I nodded, and the moment I took the umbrella, Liu Bi soared into the air, hovering on the ceiling. This seemed to be the first reaction of the Spirit Gods when encountering the Five Spirits. The Five Spirits could indeed counter the Spirit Gods, but it depended on their strength. A Spirit God like Liu Bi, who was stronger, could not be captured.
As mentioned before, the Five Spirits did not like ceilings because in modern buildings, the ceiling is essentially the floor of the neighbor above. The proud nature of the Five Spirits made them unwilling to be stepped on. Therefore, Liu Bi's move was similar to that of most Spirit Gods; it was a way to gain an advantage.
I wasn't worried about Liu Bi facing that Five Spirit; my concern was that this Master might use talismans or spells to assist him. So I kept a close watch on him—any movement from him would prompt me to intervene. His Daoist Techniques might work on Liu Bi, but they were useless against me. With my strength, stopping him would be a piece of cake.
He didn’t look at me; his gaze was fixed on Liu Bi and his Five Spirits as they exchanged blows. His frown deepened, seemingly realizing that his Five Spirits were at a disadvantage. He moved slightly, pulling out a handful of Cinnabar from his bag and began chanting a spell, preparing to attack Liu Bi.
I was ready for this. To prevent any mishaps, I quickly cast a Hand Spell on the umbrella and summoned Mr. Huang’s spirit. I instructed it to go to a specific location—the corner where the doctor and three startled Social Brothers were—hoping to intimidate them. They had lost their leader and lacked resolve; Mr. Huang's presence would be enough to shake them.
Once Mr. Huang moved out, I rushed forward in quick steps to stand in front of the Master, grabbing his hand just as he was about to strike and pulling it back. I then used an interference spell to disrupt his chanting.
The interference spell was specifically designed to disrupt others' spells, and I took pride in knowing that this spell seemed unique to our Qiaoling Method of Feng Shui. During a Daoist Exchange Meeting once, I had subtly asked other sect members about such spells, and they appeared unaware of any interference spells; even Master Xiao, a legitimate disciple of Daoism, didn’t know about it.
With time running short and still at the Deceased's Home with matters unresolved, I took advantage of the daytime break to update using the Victim's computer. With enough rewards for an additional chapter today, there would be another update before ten o'clock. Thanks to "Little Anmi" for the diamond and "Frost123" for the ten flowers.
