"I wouldn't say that," I replied. "Maybe it's just a ruse. Let's not go out yet; we'll wait for my friend to arrive first."
After quietly waiting for about twenty minutes, my phone rang. Sister Su's voice came through, "Little Master Liu, we're downstairs. How do we get in? We don't have a key either."
I asked Miss Liu if the key was in the room. She was lying on the bed, reached for her bag, and pulled out a set of keys, handing them to me. I took the keys and spoke into the phone, "Sister Su, don't come up yet. Wait downstairs while I throw down the keys. Be careful when you enter; first check if that Underworld spell's Sun Ming is still in the house. If he is, hold him down for me."
By then, it was already past two in the morning, and only a few units in the entire building had their lights on; there were no people downstairs at all. After spotting Sister Su below, I rummaged through the closet and grabbed a white piece of clothing, wrapped the keys inside, tied it up, and tossed it down toward Sister Su's group.
Sister Su brought three people with her, all of whom looked quite capable. One of the burly men picked up the keys and led the group into the doorway. A few minutes later, I heard the sound of a door opening outside. I listened closely but didn't hear any fighting. After confirming with Sister Su that there was no one inside, I opened the door.
Sister Su had been smiling when she entered, but her expression darkened immediately upon seeing Miss Liu follow me out. After glaring for a few seconds, she turned and walked into the living room. Throughout this time, Miss Liu kept her head down, not daring to meet Sister Su's gaze.
Sister Su entered the living room and began surveying the place before sitting on the sofa and sarcastically saying, "Well, well, living comfortably in a house bought with my family's money, huh?" The three burly men understood that Sister Su wanted to discuss something and quietly stepped out onto the balcony to smoke and chat.
"I..." Miss Liu started to speak but fell silent again. I knew she didn't know how to explain herself; perhaps deep down she understood that no matter what she said, she wouldn't gain Sister Su's approval or forgiveness.
Seeing the atmosphere grow tense, I chuckled lightly and said, "Sister Su, we're all victims here. I've investigated this matter thoroughly; Miss Liu was coerced and had no choice."
Upon hearing this, Sister Su slammed her hand on the coffee table and stood up angrily. "Coerced? Coerced into being a mistress? Destroying someone else's family? Coerced into stealing half of my family's wealth? Coerced into driving Chen to his death? What kind of coercion could make you so heartless? If you wanted money, you could have confronted me directly instead of sneaking around like this! You look perfectly fine to me; if you were truly coerced, tell me who did it and how!"
Sister Su's voice was loud and filled with rage. The three men outside heard the commotion and pulled open the sliding glass door to peek inside. Upon realizing it was Sister Su yelling at someone, they stayed outside quietly watching without coming in again.
I chuckled awkwardly and pulled out a pack of cigarettes from my pocket. Walking over to them, I handed each of them one with a smile. "Gentlemen, we're discussing some private matters here; it's best you don't get involved. Just sit on the balcony for a bit; it won't take long."
The three burly men accepted the cigarettes without turning away; they glanced at Sister Su instead. Understanding my intention, Sister Su reassured them, "It's fine; don't worry. Just sit outside for a while. Little Master Liu is my friend; he won't harm me."
The three strong men nodded and smiled at Sister Su's words, then turned and returned to their seats on the balcony. I pulled the sliding door shut, locked it, and then drew the curtains, effectively blocking any gaze from the balcony.
Sister Su looked at my actions with a hint of confusion but soon returned to her calm demeanor. Miss Liu stood in front of the sofa, her head lowered, silent, her hands nervously intertwining in front of her.
I approached Miss Liu and said to Sister Su, "Sister Su, please don't get agitated. Let me show you what kind of coercion she has faced." After saying this, I gently turned Miss Liu around and pulled back the fabric on her shoulder, revealing a small patch of skin where the Ghost Grasp Seal was clearly visible.
Sister Su paused for a moment after seeing it and then asked, "What does this handprint signify?"
I chuckled lightly while reaching into the Cloth Bag. "It is indeed a handprint, but it wasn't made by a person." With that, I took out the object I had collected from the Long-Haired Spirit and placed it on the ground.
Upon seeing this item, Miss Liu instinctively recoiled until she reached the wall. Sister Su silently observed my actions without speaking.
I remained quiet as well, setting up the Soul Calling Array before beginning to chant an incantation. Moments later, a Spirit God with long hair and bloodstains suddenly appeared before the array.
I faced Sister Su while calling forth the Spirit God, ensuring that it was turned away from me so that Sister Su could see its true form. As expected, upon seeing this Spirit God—far more terrifying than Mr. Chen—Sister Su couldn't help but scream. Her scream prompted a knock at the door from outside.
I quickly shushed her with a gesture and then withdrew the Spirit God back into the object. Sister Su composed herself and called out to the outside, "It's nothing; don't worry." The noise outside ceased as I tidied up my things and stood up to say to Sister Su, "The handprint on Miss Liu is from that ghost you just saw."
Upon hearing this, Sister Su's body tensed again, disbelief etched on her face as she looked at Miss Liu. At that moment, Miss Liu raised her head, biting her lower lip as tears welled in her eyes, seemingly recounting her experiences and grievances.
Sister Su didn't show much emotion but turned to me and asked, "Little Master Liu, can you explain what exactly is going on?"
"Sure," I replied softly as I sat down on the sofa as well, inviting Miss Liu to join us. The three of us began to sit together calmly, sharing what we each knew. When I recounted Mr. Chen's story from twenty years ago, both women were moved by it and fell silent for a long time. Undoubtedly, they felt sympathy for Miss Xiao's plight from two decades ago; however, they harbored jealousy and hatred towards Sun Ming's current situation. One was a victim of tragedy; the other was tormented without respite. Yet both shared a common question: why did Sun Ming retain memories of his past life while his personality had changed so drastically?
I explained, "Because all he retained from his past life is hatred. Plus, Sister Su, your family is quite wealthy; he could easily make some money and live comfortably—why wouldn't he want that?"
The conversation lasted nearly an hour. During this time, I learned that whenever Miss Liu refused to deceive Mr. Chen, Sun Ming would summon ghosts to intimidate her. Miss Liu even pulled up her shirt to show Sister Sun the numerous Ghost Grasp Seals covering her body—about ten of them, according to Sister Sun. Of course, I didn't look; it wasn't out of fear but rather because it was inappropriate to do so. Some might say, "Look at you, pretending to be innocent at your age." But I want to clarify seriously that I'm not pretending; she is genuinely innocent.
Well, I digress. Once this matter was brought up, the atmosphere began to lighten, and the previous tension dissipated. We started discussing how to find Sun Ming to help Mr. Chen lift the Yin Curse.
"What does Sun Ming do?" Sister Su asked.
"I don't know what he does. It seems like he's been staying at home since I met him," Miss Liu replied.
"Then where could he be now?" Sister Su asked again.
Miss Liu shook her head and said, "He never takes me with him when he goes out, and I don't know any of his friends."
I suggested, "Why not just give him a call?"
The evening segment is coming up, and there's still more to this story in the night segment, though the timing is uncertain. Please bear with me.
