After arming ourselves, we stepped out of the ancient temple. The moon on the fifteenth was bright and full, and thankfully, the heavens did not conspire against us; the light was so bright that we could see clearly without needing to turn on any lamps. With favorable timing, location, and camaraderie, if we failed tonight, we could only blame our lack of skill.
As the hour of the dog passed, Xiao Xiao began to set up the altar to locate Yin Chai. His method was similar to that used in the Underworld. After about ten minutes, he opened his eyes and pointed to a spot. We understood that Yin Chai's position was there. Master Xiao and I quickly set up a Feeding the Hungry Ghosts formation at the location indicated by Xiao Xiao to appease Yin Chai. Then we took out a set of divination sticks to consult Yin Chai.
The hexagrams were divided into Yin Hexagram, Yang Hexagram, and Divination Hexagram, with the Divination Hexagram providing affirmative answers. The first hexagram asked if Yin Chai could sense our signal—Divination Hexagram. The second asked if it was feasible for us to go to Trapped Soul—Divination Hexagram. The third asked if after all the incense burned out following Trapped Soul, Yin Chai would be able to collect souls—Divination Hexagram.
The consultation with Yin Chai went smoothly; perhaps it had no way to deal with those five Spirit Gods, so it did not resist our inquiries too much. After this back-and-forth, half of the hour of the pig had already passed, leaving us with just over an hour until Midnight. At Midnight, Yin Qi would be at its peak, making it significantly more difficult to go after Trapped Soul during this time frame. Therefore, we needed to act quickly.
Sayo first stood at the Heavenly Pivot Position while Master Xiao and I partnered to initiate the Seven Star Soul Locking Formation. We then simultaneously placed incense at the five star positions outside the Auxiliary Formation. Once all the Auxiliary Formation incense was lit, it signified that the Seven Star Soul Locking Formation was activated, and our half-hour countdown officially began.
Master Xiao brandished his Peach Wood Sword and took his position at Shaking Light Position. Xiao Xiao concealed himself in the penultimate star position, Kaiyang. I performed my Hand Seals while shedding tears of grief, completed my Open Eye Spell, and rushed towards the hillside with extreme yin copper coins and some Soul Guiding Talismans meant for guiding souls.
Arriving at the foot of the hill, I burned five Soul Guiding Talismans in succession and loudly recited a Soul Summoning Spell. Suddenly, five Spirit Gods emerged abruptly from several mounds above; their appearances were unclear, but I could see dark shadows forming. Under the moonlight, those shadows were quite distinct; I could even make out faintly bluish skin. Strangely enough, after they appeared, they did not rush towards me directly. I wondered if they could see through the Seven Star Soul Locking Formation; logically speaking, they shouldn't be able to unless some among them had been Taoists in life and retained complete consciousness. Otherwise, it would be impossible for them to recognize that formation was aimed at them. At that moment, I also grew worried—if that were true, tonight might end up being a wasted effort.
In my anxiety, I inevitably acted impulsively; I tightly gripped three copper coins in my hand and hurled them towards where the five Spirit Gods were positioned. This action made me realize just how foolish I was. As soon as the coins hit the ground, those five Spirit Gods charged down with a speed more than double what I had seen before.
At that moment, I fully understood that none of these Spirit Gods had been Taoists in life. Seeing their fierce charge downwards made me turn and run away. However, my speed was nothing compared to theirs; before I could reach Shaking Light Position—just three or four meters away—I was struck by a tremendous force that propelled me forward. I stumbled and fell flat on my face while rolling right under Master Xiao's feet as he caught me. That fall was certainly hard; I didn't know where I was injured but felt pain all over—a burning sensation coursed through me—but there was no time to dwell on it as I scrambled back up and dashed into the Seven Star Soul Locking Formation.
Just as I entered the formation, about a second later, Sayo shouted: "Yao Guang!" After calling out Yao Guang, Sayo dashed out with his Peach Wood Sword held horizontally to immediately block off the direction from which I had just fled. He then began swinging his Peach Wood Sword while stepping forward in Gangbu.
This was our prearranged signal: Sayo's Yin-Yang Eye would observe; as long as two Spirit Gods crossed Shaking Light Position, he would give a warning while Master Xiao would rush out to block off the remaining three Spirit Gods. Using Gangbu would better provoke them and keep him from being overwhelmed for a short time.
After Sayo shouted Yao Guang, he quickly called out "Kaiyang." Xiao Xiao also charged out with his Peach Wood Sword slicing through the air with a whooshing sound. I continued towards the second star position Celestial Pivot. Following that, Sayo declared "Lin," indicating that Soul Guiding had succeeded; Master Xiao blocked three of them while Xiao Xiao held off one more—only one remained behind me now. Upon hearing this word, Xiao Xiao swung his Peach Wood Sword fiercely towards the back door and followed closely behind me.
I plunged into the Celestial Pivot, with Xiao Xiao closely following behind. Once inside, I saw that Xiao Xiao had already begun sealing the formation. This kid really was fast.
Hearing Sayo's command to start, I quickly jumped out of the Celestial Pivot and sprinted towards the Celestial Axis, standing outside Tianji while spinning rapidly in circles. As soon as Xiao Xiao shouted "Ha!", I charged into the Soul-Trapping Formation within the Celestial Axis without hesitation.
The moment I entered, it felt like a thousand pounds pressed down on my shoulders, causing me to fall to the ground. I couldn't wait for Sayo to say "Now." I forcefully scattered the Cinnabar Ash in my hand and then rolled over, kicking fiercely at the void before scrambling up and tumbling out of the Soul-Trapping Formation of the Celestial Axis.
Landing on the ground hurt like hell, but I saw that Xiao Xiao had also sealed the formation of the Celestial Axis. Without a second thought, I quickly got up and shouted at Master Xiao, "Open!" Then, Xiao Xiao and I dashed towards the fourth position, Tianquan, and the fifth position, Jade Balance.
At this point, Master Xiao was already in a dire state; Gangbu was in complete chaos. Under the dim moonlight, his already dark face looked even darker. Hearing me shout "Open," he immediately rolled and crawled into the Shaking Light Position. Once inside, he didn't dare to relax and prepared nervously to charge out again.
In an instant, I heard Sayo shout "Yao Guang," and Master Xiao dashed out again, swinging his sword fiercely to block the Spirit Gods from providing support inside.
The second call of "Yao Guang" meant two more Spirit Gods were coming in. Just as Xiao Xiao reached the Jade Balance position, he heard Sayo call out "Jade Balance." Without hesitation, he swung his sword again. However, unexpectedly, he stumbled and fell to the ground, clearly knocked down by one of the Spirit Gods he was trying to block. With a loud thud, he hit the loess ground hard.
I quickly took out one or two Soul Guiding Talismans and began chanting spells—specifically, the Soul Summoning Spell. While chanting, I rapidly circled around the Binding Formation at Tianquan. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Xiao Xiao getting up from the ground, which relieved me a bit. I knew that this time my Soul Guiding attempt had failed; at that moment, two Spirit Gods were still chasing after me, and if nothing unexpected happened, I would definitely be tackled within seconds.
Sure enough, after just two circles, an unnamed force pushed me down to the ground. Fortunately, where I fell was right at the opening of Tianquan. At this point, Xiao Xiao had already reached Tianquan. He raised his hand above where I lay and swung his sword; it nearly grazed my head as he shouted, "To your right, Liu Shixiong." I extended my hands to the right and felt something being grasped. With a shout from Xiao Xiao of "Ha!", I pulled on Ink Fight Line towards the Soul-Trapping Formation of Tianheng.
Once I felt it being pulled in, Xiao Xiao began sealing the formation outside. Using all my strength, I crawled out from Tianheng but quickly found myself exhausted. Unable to steady myself, I fell back onto the ground, gasping for breath. I realized that there was no way I'd be able to get up in such a short time. Fortunately, our situation had improved; although Master Xiao was also physically drained, we still had two people on our side.
Xiao Xiao's time for opening his eyes hadn't expired yet; he turned around and dashed over to Master Xiao's side to help block the Spirit God entangled with him while Master Xiao began chanting Open Eye Spell.
With a shout of "Ha!", Master Xiao instantly seemed like a different person. "Damn it!" he cursed explosively as he charged towards the spirit he was fighting alongside with Xiao Xiao. Unable to see the Spirit God clearly due to my position, I couldn't make out what was happening exactly; however, Master Xiao furiously swung his sword again and again while cursing nonstop—clearly at his wit's end.
"Want to run!" came another roar. I realized that the Spirit God actually wanted to escape, but it no longer mattered. The two brothers were working together against a single Spirit God; if they let it get away now, it would truly be a case of poor skill.
As expected, within just a few minutes, Master Xiao and Xiao Xiao arrived at Kaiyang Position. Xiao Xiao sealed the Soul-Trapping Formation and let out a triumphant shout: "Ha!" marking the end of this battle. The five ferocious Spirit Gods had been securely trapped in the Seven Star Soul Locking Formation.
At that moment, Sayo appeared, and the three of us sat on the ground, panting heavily. After a while, Sayo came over to help me up. I asked Sayo if all of them were trapped, and Sayo nodded, saying, "Yes, thank you for your hard work. I couldn't help at all; I could only worry." I chuckled and said to Master Xiao and Xiao Xiao, "Haha, we did it! Let's head back to the ancient temple and wait for Yin Chai Daren to take the souls away. What happens next is no longer our concern."
With Sayo supporting me, Xiao Xiao and Master Xiao helped each other as we made our way back to the ancient temple. After closing the door, we didn't even care about the dirt on the floor. The three of us lay down together, looking at each other without saying a word, just grinning foolishly.
The next day, the representative from the Construction Team arrived on time. Master Xiao communicated about the Feng Shui Deadlock situation, and the Contractor agreed almost without hesitation to change the reverse bow formation while also receiving a substantial reward.
Sayo returned to Guangzhou that day, while Master Xiao, Xiao Xiao, and I found a hospital in Wuxi to recuperate for two days. After indulging in a feast together, we parted ways and continued living our separate lives. Perhaps one day in the future, we would fight side by side again and create unforgettable memories—difficult yet beautiful memories.
By the way, regarding the influence of Yin House, you may have heard the saying that wealth does not last beyond three generations. This actually refers to the impact of Yin House on descendants; its influence lasts for three generations but hardly affects those beyond that. Some friends say their ancestors had poor Yin House Feng Shui; this can only be true for their ancestors within three generations.
This story has finally come to an end as an additional chapter funded by classmate Nalan Xiaoqiao's generous donation of fifty thousand coins for my sports car.
