My mother stood frozen at the foot of the bed, watching me in a state of panic. But as soon as I got dressed, I dashed out the door.
She grabbed my arm tightly, frowning as she asked, "Son, what are you doing?"
I turned back briefly and replied, "Grandma Jiang said yesterday that she would take Xiao Juan back to Jintan today. I can't let them leave."
With that, I broke free from my mother's grip and ran outside.
Hearing this, my mother was momentarily stunned, watching my frantic figure disappear into the distance with a complex expression, unable to comprehend what was happening.
Inside the house and in the yard, I couldn't find Grandma Jiang or Xiao Juan; not even Mao Shiba was around. I saw Mingyue standing in the yard, looking at me with a puzzled expression, unsure of why I was so flustered.
I quickly asked, "Mingyue, where are Grandma Jiang and Xiao Juan?"
"They've already left. Why are you looking for them?" Mingyue asked with a frown.
"Left?"
Her words shocked me. I hurriedly asked, "When did they leave? How long ago?"
Mingyue's brows furrowed even deeper, but she still replied, "They just left a little while ago. They couldn't wake you up when they were leaving, so they went without you."
I barely registered her words; upon hearing that they had just left, I felt like an arrow released from its bow and sprinted toward the gate as fast as I could.
"Lin Hao!" someone called after me, but I didn't respond or even turn around. I just kept running forward in pursuit.
"Something seems off with him," someone murmured behind me.
In the yard, Mingyue stepped out and stood at the door, calmly addressing Mu Yan, who was standing nearby and seemed a bit dazed as he watched my retreating figure.
Mu Yan glanced at Mingyue but said nothing. Without hesitation, he followed closely behind me, chasing after me.
Mingyue lightly bit her Crimson Lips, took a look, and then hurried to catch up with Mu Yan.
At that moment, my mother walked out from the house, standing in a daze at the door.
My father also returned from somewhere, standing beside my mother with a puzzled expression as he looked at the three figures that seemed to be in pursuit. He muttered, "What on earth is going on?"
My mother shook her head and murmured softly, "Our son doesn't seem to know what's happening. He just woke up and something felt off."
"Something feels off? What do you mean?" My father couldn't help but ask further.
My mother shook her head again and said, "I'm not quite sure either. He just woke up and called out Xiao Juan's name, then hurriedly ran outside."
"Hmm."
Upon hearing this, my father's brows furrowed tightly as he pondered aloud, "That does sound a bit off."
Xiao Juan and Grandma Jiang had not been gone for long; they were probably waiting for a ride as they walked, so they hadn't gone far. I quickly caught up with them and blocked their path.
As soon as Grandma Jiang saw me approaching, her icy gaze fell upon me, and she spoke in a cold tone, "Lin Hao, what do you want to do?"
"Grandma Jiang, you can't leave," I said breathlessly.
“Lin Hao.”
“Xiao Juan, be quiet.”
Xiao Juan was about to speak, but Grandma Jiang coldly interrupted her. Then, with a mocking gaze directed at me, she said, “You, Lin, tell me clearly why we cannot leave today.”
Although Xiao Juan remained silent, her eyes were filled with hope and excitement as she looked at me.
At that moment, Mingyue and Mu Yan had also caught up, both looking at me with confusion.
Mao Shiba stood to the side, his expression somber and silent. However, his gaze was coldly fixed on me, leaving me uncertain about what was on his mind.
I took a deep breath, ignoring everyone else. I turned my gaze to Xiao Juan and spoke firmly, “I like Xiao Juan. I want to marry her, so you cannot leave.”
“What?”
Grandma Jiang seemed taken aback, her tone rising in disbelief.
Mingyue, Mu Yan, and Mao Shiba all looked at me in shock, clearly stunned by my declaration.
“Lin Hao, what do you mean by that?” Mu Yan trembled slightly and stepped forward to confront me.
“Lin Hao, do you even know what you’re saying?” Mao Shiba’s eyes were filled with hostility as he stared at me.
“Indeed, Lin. Are you trying to make a fool of us?” Grandma Jiang sneered. “Earlier when I suggested you marry Xiao Juan, you refused. Now that we’re leaving, you chase after us and claim you want to marry her. What exactly are you trying to do? You better explain yourself clearly today; otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
Mao Shiba coldly snorted and said, "Lin Hao, do you really forget what you told me?"
"I haven't," I replied calmly.
"Then what do you mean?" Mao Shiba clenched her fists, a series of sharp cracks echoing from her grip.
I glanced at them again, my eyes landing on Mu Yan, who stood beside me with disbelief written all over her face. I spoke firmly, "I take back what I said yesterday. I've thought it through; I want to marry Xiao Juan. I can't let her leave, nor can I leave her."
"Damn you!"
As soon as my words fell, Mao Shiba couldn't hold back any longer and let out a furious roar, landing a heavy punch directly on my face.
"What are you doing, Mao Shiba?" Xiao Juan exclaimed in shock, grabbing Mao Shiba and pushing her back forcefully. "Get away from him! Who gave you the right to hit him?"
"Xiao Juan, what’s so great about Lin Hao? He's just a fickle little man," Mao Shiba retorted angrily, glaring at me with fierce eyes.
"I don't need your opinion," Xiao Juan pushed Mao Shiba again and hurried to my side. She gently wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth, her face filled with concern. "Lin Hao, are you okay? Does it hurt?"
I shook my head, spat out a mouthful of blood, and looked deeply into Xiao Juan's eyes. "I'm fine; I just need you to promise me you'll marry me."
"Yes, I promise. I've always promised," Xiao Juan said, tears streaming down her face, but a smile of happiness and contentment lit up her expression.
"Let him go."
Mu Yan stood to the side, her face growing increasingly grim until it was completely cold. Her gaze held a deep fury as it landed on Xiao Juan. She coldly uttered three words.
Xiao Juan was taken aback, his gaze shifting to Mu Yan, a hint of regret flickering in his expression. Yet, he gently shook his head and said, "No, I won't let her go. I'm sorry."
"Shh."
As soon as Xiao Juan's words fell, Mu Yan could no longer contain herself. Her ten fingers suddenly sprouted long nails that glimmered with a chilling light, sharp as daggers.
"Are you planning to make a move?"
After a moment of silence, Grandma Jiang suddenly spoke up, her tone naturally exuding a sharpness.
Her gaze landed on Mu Yan, a cold glint flashing as she warned, "If you harm even a hair on my granddaughter, just watch how this old woman will make you regret it."
"Mu Yan, stop."
I quickly intervened, casting a stern look at Mu Yan.
"You..." Mu Yan looked at me, her body trembling slightly, but in the end, she couldn't find the words to respond.
At that moment, Mingyue placed a hand on Mu Yan's shoulder and softly said, "Don't get angry. He is not the Lin Hao from before; what he says now is not his true intention."
