The person looking for me was Liu Man. It was already dark when she found me, her face pale and breathless, clearly having run over.
I had already guessed that if something went wrong, they would definitely come back to find me, so I hadn't gone far. Instead, I had stopped at a noodle shop near the police station to have a bowl of noodles.
Just as I stepped outside, I bumped right into Liu Man. She was bent over, gasping for breath, stammering as she spoke. But due to her urgency, she couldn't articulate clearly at first.
I let out a cold laugh and said lightly, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
Upon hearing this, Liu Man nodded repeatedly. After stuttering for a while, she finally blurted out in a panic, "Not only did something happen, but someone also died."
"How many people died?" My expression darkened instantly at the mention of death.
"It seems like one coroner and an assistant. Even Tang Yuxuan got scratched," she said as she grabbed my arm and pulled me forward. While walking, she urged, "Don't talk about it now; let's hurry over and take a look. It's just ahead."
I shook off her hand but didn't rush forward. Instead, I stood still and asked her, "Where's the Zombie now?"
Seeing her stunned, I quickly clarified, "I mean Dashun's body."
"Oh."
Only then did she seem to understand. Still slightly out of breath, she said, "It's in the Autopsy Room. Tang Yuxuan and the others locked him inside. The door is made of iron; he shouldn't be able to get out."
Hearing Liu Man say this, I finally relaxed a bit and nodded. "Then take me there now."
As soon as my voice fell, Liu Man grabbed my hand again and tried to pull me forward. I couldn't help but frown slightly and asked, "What are you doing?"
She replied, "We need to hurry; what if there's danger?"
I said, "Dashun just faked his death; he can't possibly break through an iron door right now. So we don't need to rush."
However, Liu Man frowned slightly and said, "But Tang Yuxuan is injured. What if something happens?"
As soon as he was mentioned, I let out a cold snort and said angrily, "If something happens, it's his own fault. Who told him not to listen to me?"
Even though I said that, I wasn't that petty. I just timed it right; even if Tang Yuxuan was caught by Corpse Poison, it wouldn't be a big deal for the time being.
"Come on, Master Lin, don't be angry with him. Life is at stake, so let's hurry," Liu Man thought I was upset with Tang Yuxuan and worried that I wouldn't save him. Even the way she addressed me changed.
I was speechless and didn't respond, but I did quicken my pace.
When we arrived at the forensic autopsy area, there were already more than a dozen armed police officers standing outside the Autopsy Room, all of them nervously staring at the large iron door. From a distance, we could hear loud banging sounds coming from inside.
Aside from those armed police officers, all other bystanders had already been cleared away. Only Liu Man rushed over with me.
Liu Man first greeted those officers and then glanced at me.
I didn't pay much attention; my gaze swept over to Tang Yuxuan, who was crouched in a corner with a pained expression, gripping his left arm with his right hand.
It was clear that his left arm was stained with blood.
After greeting the armed police officers, Liu Man hurried back to my side, anxiously pointing at Tang Yuxuan and saying, "Master Lin, he probably won't be coming out for a while. Why don't you check on Tang Yuxuan first?"
I glanced at Tang Yuxuan; he looked over too but seemed indifferent towards me.
This made me snort coldly and say directly, "I should deal with the trouble inside first."
"But what if he's in danger?" Liu Man said worriedly. Dashun had faked his death because of Corpse Poison, and now Tang Yuxuan had been grabbed by Dashun after he faked his death. This meant he could also become a Zombie.
So it was understandable to be anxious.
However, I ignored Liu Man and simply said, "Open this iron door first."
Liu Man hesitated for a moment, but ultimately decided to proceed. She turned her gaze toward the tense police officers, armed and ready, and issued them a command.
I took a slight breath, knowing that even if Dashun was faking his death, it wasn't as terrifying as it seemed.
Still, I felt a bit anxious. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a yellow talisman, then walked directly to the iron door of the Autopsy Room.
"Step back."
Just before opening the door, Liu Man waved her hand at the officers again.
I couldn't help but glance at her, surprised that she was in charge here.
She seemed to understand my thoughts and awkwardly explained, "This case is being handled by Tang Yuxuan and me, so we are responsible for this area. It's just that he—"
She glanced at Tang Yuxuan, who shot me a look before turning back to Liu Man, seemingly sulking as he said, "I'm fine. I'll just get patched up later."
I scoffed and replied, "If getting patched up is all it takes, then you might as well give it a try."
After saying that, I ignored him and focused on preparing myself for the Autopsy Room's iron door.
The police officers retreated far back against the wall, taking aim as if they were ready to fire at a moment's notice if things went south.
This made me feel somewhat exasperated as I turned to Liu Man and said, "Those guns won't do anything to him. Bullets don't discriminate; don't let them accidentally shoot me full of holes. You should let them leave first."
Upon hearing this, Liu Man looked at me and confirmed, "Are you really sure you can handle this alone?"
I replied curtly, "If not, then you should take over."
She quickly waved her hand. "No, you should do it."
Then she gestured to the officers to lower their weapons but didn't instruct them to leave. I didn't mind this; at that moment, the iron door of the Autopsy Room began to slowly open.
As soon as the space opened just enough to fit one person, Dashun burst out from within and lunged directly at me.
I was already prepared. The moment he charged at me, I swiftly dodged to the side, and as I did, I kicked out my leg, tripping him and sending Dashun crashing to the ground.
By the time he got back on his feet, I had already positioned myself in front of him, decisively slapping the Yellow Talisman onto his forehead.
In an instant, the fierce and menacing Dashun stood frozen in place, completely immobilized, all happening in the blink of an eye.
This scene left the police dumbfounded, and even Liu Man and Tang Yuxuan stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
I clapped my hands, feeling a sense of relief wash over me when suddenly my phone rang from my pocket.
Furrowing my brow slightly, I pulled out the phone to see it was a call from home. I quickly answered it.
However, once the call connected, my expression turned grim.
My mother informed me that Mu Yan had gone berserk and urged me to come home quickly.
