The Swamp Python, surviving in the marshes at the lowlands of the Taihang Mountains, was one of the very things we were searching for.
But how did it end up here?
I couldn't fathom it, but what worried me even more was that Nine-Tailed Fox swallowed by it.
Its speed was astonishing, bursting forth from the Water Surface of the lake below like lightning, and in an instant, it devoured the Nine-Tailed Fox whole.
Then, just as quickly, it plunged back into the lake, sending up a massive spray of water.
I watched in shock, my face filled with anxiety as I gazed downward, feeling utterly helpless, unable to do anything but watch.
A hint of regret flashed across Mingyue's face as she sighed, "This lake must be connected to a swamp; otherwise, this Swamp Python would never have come here to hunt."
I sighed in response, "What a pity for that little fox; it was swallowed alive just like that."
No sooner had I spoken than a muffled sound erupted from the lake. The Swamp Python that had just plunged into the water suddenly burst forth from the Water Surface again, soaring into the air like a dragon, shooting straight up.
"Not good! It's coming up! Get back!" Mingyue exclaimed in alarm, pushing me aside and knocking me to the ground.
After pushing me down, she immediately tackled Mu Yan to the ground, her body pinning him down.
I lifted my head slightly, my face filled with shock.
At that moment, the Swamp Python indeed charged directly into the cave, its massive head looming before me. It opened its gaping maw, releasing an incredibly foul stench of blood.
My face turned pale instantly as I couldn't help but curse under my breath, "Damn it! Looks like you want to eat me too!"
Yet I found myself instinctively moving backward. Seeing this, Mingyue immediately struck fiercely at the tail of the Swamp Python.
The Swamp Python was as thick as a barrel, its tough skin and thick flesh were not the only things to note; its body was also covered in hard Scale Armor. Despite the strength of Mingyue, there was no way her soft fists could shake it.
Thus, her punch did not even faze the Swamp Python, which didn’t even bother to move its head.
Its massive head still hung in front of me, mouth wide open like a blood-red abyss.
I steeled myself and reached for a nearby stone, preparing to smash it down with all my might.
But just as I lifted it, I froze in place.
A flash of colorful light suddenly burst forth from that gaping maw, moving at an incredible speed.
The colorful light felt oddly familiar.
In an instant, I recalled that before I lost consciousness, I had seen a similar beam of light shooting towards me from afar.
I even had a feeling that my survival was somehow linked to that light before I fainted.
So now, I stared blankly at the colorful glow before me as it quickly landed on the ground beside me, transforming into the shape of a Nine-Tailed Fox upon touching down.
“It’s you,” I exclaimed in disbelief.
The little fox glanced at me with lively eyes.
But then it turned its gaze toward the Swamp Python. To my astonishment, it spoke human words, coldly addressing the creature: “You beast, how dare you attempt to swallow This Immortal? You truly are tired of living.”
“Very well.”
It suddenly paused and then said, "Since you've come to me, let's make this easy for the kid."
When I heard that voice, I froze in place, my eyes wide as I stared at the little fox in front of me.
Especially when it uttered the words "This Immortal," I felt a jolt run through my entire body.
The little fox before me was the Hu Family Immortal.
I was almost overwhelmed by my own realization.
But it proved to be true.
In an instant, as the voice fell, the little fox with the Nine-Tailed Fox appearance shimmered with a radiant light and transformed into the form of the Hu Family Immortal.
The stunningly beautiful woman stood before me.
Yet at that moment, she exuded an immense pressure.
I felt utterly unwell; earlier, I had thought she was merely a little fox with Nine Tails and even entertained the idea of drawing blood from her.
Now, reflecting on it, I couldn't help but feel a wave of dread.
If I had acted impulsively back then, what would have been the consequences?
I couldn't dare to think further.
She glanced at me, her expression seemingly teasing, and said leisurely, "Brat, weren't you going to catch This Immortal? Now This Immortal is right here; why don't you come and catch me?"
I instantly felt like cursing; wasn't that just nonsense?
Catch her? How could I catch her?
Was this some kind of dragon claw technique? Just grab her like that?
Even if I had ten times the courage, I wouldn't dare to make a move!
Fortunately, she seemed to be just joking. After saying that, she ignored me and turned her gaze directly toward the Swamp Python in front of us.
Faced with the terrifying Fellow, the Swamp Python lay on the ground like a mudfish, shaking its head as if begging for mercy.
However, the Hu Family Immortal appeared calm on the surface but acted decisively. Without any hesitation, she suddenly transformed into a blur and, in the next moment, twisted the head of the Swamp Python clean off.
I was taken aback by this scene, my face turning pale.
Such a brutal act was hard for me to accept at that moment.
At the same time, I felt an overwhelming shock; after all, this Swamp Python was as thick as a water barrel.
To twist off its head required immense strength, especially without any weapons, relying solely on bare hands.
Yet here it was, undeniable evidence before me: this stunningly beautiful and fiery Hu Family Immortal was undoubtedly a ruthless character.
If I were to see her again in the future, it would be best to keep my distance. This was my only thought at that moment.
She shot me a glance and said, “Don’t act all compassionate. You came here not just for other things; this Swamp Python's spine is exactly what you wanted, isn’t it?”
I couldn’t deny it and nodded slightly, though I still found it hard to accept in my heart.
However, she waved her hand and shot out a beam of colorful light. To my astonishment, the body of the Swamp Python visibly shed its flesh, revealing a section of spine.
With a smile on her face, she walked over, grasped it firmly, and with a slight exertion, broke it in half. Then she returned to my side and handed it to me, saying lightly, “Take it. Don’t say you don’t want it.”
I stood there dumbfounded as I accepted the cold white bone she had given me. She raised an eyebrow and said seriously, “The only reason I’m helping you is because of Gu Chen. So you don’t need to worry about owing me anything. Also, I must remind you: be careful of that person during the day.”
The Hu Family Immortal’s words made me pause. “What do you mean?”
She replied calmly, “The Taihang Mountains are under my protection. If I want to keep you safe, he will find it futile to try and harm you. But once you leave the Taihang Mountains or if he approaches from another angle, then it becomes uncertain.”
She said no more.
But my expression instantly darkened. Was this going to be like the situation with the Cloud Ghost General back then?
Of course, I understood who she was referring to; who else could it be but Yang Yi?
This thought made me feel a bit anxious.
