The bright moon was undeniably beautiful, her allure making it difficult to approach her.
Yet at that moment, I took the initiative to wrap my arms around her waist. Although it was not entirely by choice, I still felt a flutter of anxiety within me. To my surprise, she did not reject me.
What astonished me even more was how sensitive she was.
As my hand gently slid around her waist from behind, it caused her body to stiffen, her expression momentarily frozen. If I had taken the time to closely observe her features then, I would have noticed that her face was already flushed with a deep crimson.
Just this alone made my thoughts drift in certain directions, causing me to feel somewhat dazed.
There was no denying that the beauty of the moon had a significant impact on me.
However, when these chaotic thoughts began to swirl in my mind, I suddenly shook my head, casting those disordered ideas far away.
Mu Yan was still anxiously waiting for me, so how could I entertain such lewd thoughts?
Noticing my unusual behavior, the moon lowered her head and softly asked, "What's wrong?"
I quickly replied, feeling a bit embarrassed, "Nothing, it's fine."
After that, the moon fell silent while I turned my gaze towards the Nine-Tailed Fox. It stood there, eyes fixed on me and the moon, sniffing the air and slightly tilting its head back.
"Nine-Tailed Fox."
The moon's face instantly lit up with surprise as she exclaimed. Only then did she realize that there was indeed a Nine-Tailed Fox before us.
I nodded gently without saying a word.
The expressions on the moon's face were quite vivid—first excitement, then a shadow of disappointment, followed by silence.
I understood in my heart that we had come to Taihang, and the Nine-Tailed Fox was indeed one of the beings we were searching for.
However, perhaps she had also thought of the Hu Family Immortal, which led her to reluctantly give up.
I glanced at the Nine-Tailed Fox, who was looking up at us, and sighed, "Let's go."
Mingyue nodded, and we supported each other as we left, our steps slow and heavy.
The Nine-Tailed Fox scrutinized us for a moment before suddenly turning and darting into the thick underbrush, transforming into a flash of colorful light and disappearing from sight.
Mingyue and I trudged forward step by step. To avoid any awkwardness, I kept silent, deliberately directing my gaze ahead in search of direction.
Mingyue kept her head down, occasionally glancing up towards the front without saying a word.
As we walked on, a figure finally appeared in our line of sight.
I let out a sigh of relief, a hint of joy crossing my face as I said, "We've arrived; Mu Yan is just ahead."
"Mm."
Mingyue nodded indifferently again but did not speak.
Under the old tree, Mu Yan was curled up, squatting there with her gaze fixed in our direction, looking into the distance.
I knew she must be waiting—waiting for my return.
When she saw Mingyue and me approaching slowly, she suddenly sprang to her feet and ran toward us.
Seeing this, a wave of emotion washed over me. I released the hand that had been wrapped around Mingyue's back, glanced at her, and then walked over to Mu Yan.
"You've finally returned," Mu Yan said softly.
I took a deep breath, fixing my gaze on her as I replied, "I'm sorry to have worried you."
She shook her head, remaining silent, but her concern was evident.
Mingyue stood nearby, watching us with a hint of disappointment in her eyes, though I failed to notice that fleeting emotion.
As we turned away, she had already concealed her feelings well, becoming as indifferent as before.
"Is she alright?" Mu Yan asked, looking at Mingyue.
Before I could respond, Mingyue spoke first, her tone calm. "Thank you for your concern. It's thanks to him returning in time that I'm safe now."
Mu Yan nodded slightly, choosing not to say more.
I didn't elaborate on the events that had transpired. Glancing at Mingyue, I suggested, "It's getting dark. How about we rest here for a while and then find a place to spend the night?"
"That works," Mingyue replied indifferently. Mu Yan nodded in agreement, showing no objections.
After resting for a bit before nightfall and regaining some strength, we set off again. However, it was puzzling when the Nine-Tailed Fox reappeared in our line of sight as we began our journey.
I looked at it with confusion and muttered, "You little fox really are persistent; are you sticking with us now?"
I felt a mix of amusement and annoyance. Before arriving, I had been wondering how to find the Nine-Tailed Fox.
Yet now that it was right in front of me, I hesitated to approach it, leaving me speechless.
The bright moon furrowed her brow slightly and said, "It seems like it wants to lead us."
Upon hearing this, I turned my gaze to the little fox ahead of us. It stood there, chirping and waving its tiny hands forward, seemingly confirming what the bright moon had said.
I was immediately intrigued and tentatively asked it, "Are you asking us to follow you?"
As soon as the little fox heard my words, it nodded vigorously.
This made both me and Mingyue exchange glances with each other.
Mingyue said indifferently, "Let’s just follow it and see. After all, there’s no harm in it."
I thought about it and realized she was right. Although I didn’t know where this Nine-Tailed Fox was leading us, there was indeed no downside. In fact, when the time came to extract its blood, being close by would be advantageous.
At that point, I wouldn’t have to search for its whereabouts desperately.
Following behind the Nine-Tailed Fox, we moved forward through mountains and forests.
Finally, we stopped halfway up a mountain, where it began to chirp and wave its little paws at something in front of it.
I stepped forward in confusion, unsure of what it was pointing at. The area was overgrown with vines.
Yet it continued to chirp incessantly, even pulling aside some of the vines with its tiny paws.
This only deepened my confusion, so I stepped up to help clear the vines away.
As I pulled them aside, a cave suddenly appeared before me, leaving me momentarily stunned.
This cave was taller than an average person and had been completely cleared of vines, measuring a full two meters in width.
I turned to the little fox standing beside me, surprised as I asked, "Are you the one who brought us here to spend the night?"
It nodded but then shook its head.
This immediately left me puzzled, and I frowned slightly, asking, "Then what do you mean by bringing us here?"
I looked at it, and without hesitation, it darted into the cave. Turning around, it made a series of chirping sounds, signaling us to follow.
Mu Yan and I exchanged glances again, hesitating for a moment, but ultimately decided to step inside.
The cave was surprisingly not dark. After walking just a few meters behind the little fox, our vision opened up once more.
"This cave is actually interconnected," I exclaimed in astonishment.
The little fox ran to my side, tugging at my clothes and pulling me forward.
When we reached the end, I was momentarily stunned. To my side was a high cliff, and below it lay a vast lake with pale green waters stretching out before us.
But what thrilled me even more was that following the direction indicated by the little fox's paw, there was something umbrella-shaped and oval on the cliff face—a purple-brown object.
"Reishi!" I exclaimed in delight.
Mu Yan's expression changed instantly upon hearing this, and she hurried over.
As she looked closer, a hint of joy flashed across her face as well.
Mu Yan remarked, "This reishi is quite large; it must be Hundred-Year Lingzhi."
But in an instant, her expression darkened again as she said, "However, this reishi is halfway down the cliff; we can't possibly reach it to pick it."
Her words left me momentarily stunned, but before I could react, the Nine-Tailed Fox beside me had already leaped off the cliff.
I gasped, "Little Fox, what are you doing?"
Although the cliff wasn't too high, at such a height, if the little fox fell, it would either be crushed by the rocks below or drown in the lake.
But that was just the beginning; an even more terrifying scene unfolded immediately after.
The once calm lake suddenly erupted with a massive wave, splashing water everywhere.
A huge shadow shot out of the lake like lightning, opening its gaping maw.
I could see clearly that it was a gigantic Swamp Python, as thick as a barrel, rising from below.
In one swift motion, it swallowed the little fox whole.
I was so shocked by the scene before me that I couldn't utter a word.
However, Mingyue exclaimed in horror, "The Swamp Python! It's actually the Swamp Python!"
