The person before me was indeed He Si, but he felt completely different from the He Si I knew. He seemed cold and deep, especially when I looked into his eyes, which sent a chill down my spine.
That chill was as if there was not a trace of emotion or color in his gaze.
It felt more like the stare of a corpse. I couldn't help but take a step back in shock and asked, "Fourth Brother, what happened to you?"
Seeing me retreat with a frightened expression, his demeanor seemed to shift slightly. He glanced around nervously and made a shushing gesture towards me.
I frowned slightly and looked around, unable to comprehend what he meant. There was nothing but the two of us.
But he whispered urgently, "Don't make a sound. Come with me quickly; someone is chasing me."
With that, he hurriedly moved forward, panic evident on his face. I furrowed my brow, filled with questions.
However, his words left me no choice but to follow him without asking further. I quickly kept pace behind him while occasionally glancing back, genuinely worried that someone might be pursuing us.
As we followed He Si for quite a distance, I realized we had reached the outskirts of the city, yet no one was behind us. Eventually, there wasn't even a single person in sight.
The sky darkened, and in the night, only He Si and I moved forward in a state of panic, silent and eerily still.
A cold wind blew through, making me shiver involuntarily. I looked at He Si ahead of me, filled with unexplainable confusion.
I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about this He Si. One question nagged at me: if He Si was standing right in front of me now, why had his phone been unreachable before?
After arriving in Chengdu, Gu Chen had tried calling several times as well, but his calls still went unanswered. Logically speaking, that shouldn't have been possible.
He had called for help earlier; if he were safe now, he would surely contact us to let us know he was okay. Yet he hadn’t done so.
So, this doesn't make any sense.
Just a moment ago, when I was chasing him, his figure vanished in a way that was too strange. He was clearly right in front of me, yet in an instant, he disappeared. When he reappeared, he was already behind me.
Such oddity—could this be something a normal person could do?
But if the person before me, He Si, wasn't normal, then what was he? Who was he?
As I closely followed He Si, my mind raced with thoughts.
The more I thought about it, the more tangled my feelings became. I couldn't help but gradually slow my pace because I still sensed that something was off about He Si ahead of me.
Perhaps sensing my unease, He Si suddenly stopped and turned around. "What's wrong with you? Hurry up and follow me!" he urged.
I frowned slightly and tried to keep my voice calm as I asked, "Fourth Brother, where are you taking me?"
He looked anxious. "Don't worry about that right now; just come with me."
I shook my head firmly. "No, if you don't tell me, then I'm not going."
To be honest, I felt a bit scared at that moment. I glanced around; I had no idea where I was. If this He Si wasn't really He Si, I wouldn't know what to do.
So while I didn't run away, my gaze towards him was filled with caution.
Seeing my resolute expression, He Si's demeanor suddenly darkened. He stared at me coldly and said in a grim tone, "Whether you want to or not, you're coming with me."
I was taken aback and couldn't believe it. "You're not He Si."
He ignored me, his cold and deep gaze fixed on me as he slowly approached.
Seeing his expression, that icy and eerie look, fear washed over me, and I quickly turned to run. But after just two steps, he grabbed my arm from behind.
His grip was strong; no matter how much I struggled, I couldn't break free. My arm throbbed painfully in his hold.
Just when I felt an overwhelming sense of urgency and terror, a figure emerged from the darkness ahead. She moved swiftly, one moment in front of me, the next leaping into the air with a sharp kick aimed directly at He Si behind me.
" Mingyue!"
Upon seeing that proud face, I couldn't help but exclaim in surprise, but my excitement surged instantly. Seeing her felt like finding a savior.
And indeed, she was my savior. Faced with her fierce kick, He Si had no choice but to release his grip on my arm and block Mingyue's swift strike.
Once he let go, I stood there dazed for a moment, rubbing my arm that had been painfully gripped by He Si, feeling as if even my bones ached.
At that moment, Mingyue had already engaged He Si in combat, striking while coldly saying, "Get back!"
Hearing her words startled me, and I quickly moved aside to watch them.
Although I wasn't familiar with Mingyue and only knew from Gu Chen and Zhou Zhen that she might be a descendant of the Unloading Gate, she gave off an impressive aura.
What surprised me was that He Si was equally skilled; she could hold her own against Mingyue. It seemed her strength was extraordinary as she consistently blocked Mingyue's sharp kicks.
I couldn't gauge the force behind those kicks, but judging by their intensity, if one landed on me, it would surely break my bones.
Even Anfu, after blocking one of her kicks with both hands, had cried out in pain.
However, the person in front of me, He Si, seemed completely unfazed, which left me in shock.
As I was taken aback, my brows furrowed deeply. I was almost certain that this person could not be He Si, but if he wasn't He Si, then who could he possibly be?
At that moment, my phone suddenly rang. I pulled it out to see that it was Zhou Zhen calling. I quickly answered, and Zhou Zhen's voice came through with a hint of concern: "Xiao Lin, where have you been? It's been so long since you went to buy food."
I hurriedly asked him if Xiao Juan had returned. Zhou Zhen replied that Xiao Juan had gone back early, thinking I had returned first. After buying the food, he couldn't find me and left. However, everyone had been waiting at the hotel for a long time without seeing me come back. They had called me over a dozen times but no one picked up.
I felt a bit puzzled; it couldn't be true.
But when I checked my call log, it indeed showed several missed calls from Zhou Zhen. I quickly said, "Uncle Zhou, I ran into He Si."
To my surprise, Zhou Zhen responded immediately, "That's impossible. We didn't wait for you at the hotel and went out instead. We’ve already found He Si; he's at the hotel."
Everyone should just go to sleep now. The company had a power outage from morning until evening after work. I took a bus to the internet café to write this, and it's quite far. It's late now, and it'll take me some time to get back home. Good night.
