The vermilion powder spilled across the ground, staining the branches and the soil beneath a bright red. At that moment, Gu Chen fastened the Bagua Mirror to his belt.
He then placed one hand behind his back while gripping the red-stained branch tightly with the other, quickly circling around the space cleared by Baldy.
Of course, his so-called "circling" was not just a simple walk around the area; he used the branch in his hand to draw a large circle on the ground.
After completing this, he returned to the center, tossed the branch aside, and reached into his pocket to rummage for something. Due to the distance, I couldn't see clearly, but it seemed to be something like copper coins.
At that moment, Zhou Zhen whispered beside me, "What Senior Gu is holding should be Five Emperor Coins."
"Five Emperor Coins?" I asked, slightly puzzled.
Zhou Zhen explained, "The Five Emperor Coins were minted during the reigns of five emperors of the Qing Dynasty: Shunzhi, Kangxi, Yongzheng, Qianlong, and Jiaqing. They are round on the outside and square on the inside, with an ancient yellow color."
I looked at Gu Chen standing silently in the center. Zhou Zhen's words deepened my confusion, and I couldn't help but ask quietly, "Uncle Zhou, what does he intend to do with those Five Emperor Coins?"
Zhou Zhen shook his head. "The Five Emperor Coins were minted by emperors and have a history of about three hundred years. He shook his head again. "I don't know."
I was at a loss for words, but my attention was once again drawn back to Gu Chen.
After standing still for a moment, he began pacing back and forth in that space. Occasionally he would look up at the crescent moon in the sky or lower his head in contemplation before tossing down a Five Emperor Coin.
Zhou Zhen furrowed his brow and said softly, "It seems that Senior Gu is trying to find a direction and set up a formation using those Five Emperor Coins."
Set up a formation? What kind of formation could be created with just a few coins?
I watched Gu Chen intently, curious about what kind of formation he could possibly arrange with only a handful of coins.
After about five or six minutes of coming and going, I saw Gu Chen drop a total of nine coins before finally stopping and returning to stand in the center.
He scanned his surroundings before his gaze settled on Baldy as he calmly commanded, "Anfu, step into the Tai Chi Bagua stance."
Baldy nodded silently and walked directly to the center, where he began to step in a rhythmic manner. His speed was astonishing, and the way he moved left me dazzled and somewhat confused.
In just a moment, he stopped and stood indifferently to the side.
Gu Chen nodded and said, "You stand over there for now."
Baldy replied with an acknowledgment and then moved to stand beside us.
I asked him what he had just done, but he shot me a glare and ignored my question. I felt a bit speechless, huffed, and decided not to press further.
At that moment, Gu Chen had already taken the Bagua Mirror from his waist and held it in his hand. With his right hand, he quickly drew a rune and chanted urgently, "All combatants take their positions, Urgent Command."
The incantation he recited was familiar to me; it was one of the Taoist nine-character mantras. However, I found it strange that he only recited the first seven characters.
Then I watched as he pressed the rune onto the center of the Bagua Mirror, which instantly radiated a faint golden glow.
In the next moment, he flipped the Bagua Mirror over, positioning the Yin-Yang Wooden Fish directly toward the half-moon in the sky, and shouted, "Command!"
As his voice echoed, the rune he had placed on the Bagua Mirror ignited with a loud bang and turned to ashes. I saw Gu Chen bring his fingers together and swiftly write a character on the Bagua Mirror, as if drawing a ghostly symbol. With a flick of his finger, brilliant golden light burst forth from the mirror.
He then chanted two more lines: "The universe shines brightly under the moonlight; within the five elements lies the essence of heaven and earth, Urgent Command."
As his voice fell, he instantly twisted the Bagua Mirror in another direction, facing downwards. The light from the mirror illuminated the ground below, and an eerie scene unfolded before my eyes that left me dumbfounded.
Within the area where Baldy had just stepped, dazzling brilliance erupted. Another Yin-Yang Wooden Fish formed in response, radiating brilliant light that contrasted sharply with that of Gu Chen's Bagua Mirror.
"Command!"
Gu Chen shouted again. As his voice faded, he directed the light from the Bagua Mirror toward other directions. Instantly, beams of light from various places lit up and merged with the glow emanating from the Yin-Yang Wooden Fish Diagram on the ground.
I saw clearly that nine beams of light had just illuminated the area, precisely where Gu Chen had previously dropped the nine Five Emperor Coins.
After completing these actions, Gu Chen held the Bagua Mirror in one hand and quickly formed a hand seal with the other, shouting, "Rise!"
As his voice fell, a magnificent Yin-Yang Wooden Fish Diagram slowly ascended from the ground, hovering above us. "Yes, it has formed a momentum. The essence of this place is not something that can be established overnight; it has taken a long time to gather and solidify, ultimately sealing off this space. Anyone who rashly enters will inevitably be influenced by the emotions embedded in this ambiance."
Although Gu Chen spoke at length, I still found myself struggling to understand.
However, Gu Chen seemed disinclined to elaborate further and simply asked, "Do you know why they committed suicide?"
