The final note of the three wedding preparation piano pieces fell, and the beautiful, melodious echoes lingered in the air, drifting up into the clear sky. After a brief pause, a sharp, piercing sound erupted violently, like countless steel needles soaked in icy springs, carrying shivers and coldness, resonating throughout the entire island via the sound amplification equipment.
The person responsible for adjusting the equipment had long since disappeared. The yacht was empty, and the flagpole atop the boat still flapped in the wind. The congratulatory banners were violently whipped by the sea breeze, fluttering up and down; a telescope lay shattered on the deck, its glass glimmering on the ground, reflecting the dazzling sunlight.
The banquet hall awaited its guests. In the center of the ceremonial stage hung a portrait of the bride in her wedding dress, vividly depicting her leaning against her groom's embrace. Their faces radiated with sweet happiness, their eyes silently gazing at the empty tables and chairs that should have been filled with friends and family today.
Cao Zheng and Dai Wei reacted promptly, but their judgment faltered. The crowd surging towards Mangrove and rushing towards Stilt House were not members of Qian Wanguo's Rebels; they were armed personnel urgently dispatched by Blonde Woman.
Dai Wei was worried about Luo Yu at the wedding reception. He hurriedly exchanged a few words with Cao Zheng before sprinting towards the heart of the chaos. Before he reached the small wooden house, the cacophony of Wanli Red's gunfire abruptly ceased. In his line of sight, the crowd welcoming the bride remained enthusiastic and oblivious to the unexpected guests about to cross Saddle Vine Path. In that moment of pause, Dai Wei suddenly realized he was unarmed; rushing in would clearly be futile. The small wooden house was within reach, so it made more sense to grab a weapon first before charging into battle.
As it turned out, rationality could always save your life in critical moments.
Dai Wei dashed back to the small wooden house, discarded his formal suit, and crawled under the bed to pull out a large wooden box. He and Cao Zheng's gear was stored together; both bows and firearms required regular maintenance. Usually, this task was handled by Qianqian. After arriving on the island and enjoying leisurely days, she and Cao Zheng had been preoccupied with their romantic affairs, so Dai Wei took it upon himself to handle this duty.
Time was pressing; Dai Wei had no time for careful inspection. He grabbed a tube of Carbon Arrows and slung it around his waist while shouldering a Compound Bow as he rushed outside. Just as he crossed the threshold, a barrage of gunfire erupted from Wanli Red. Through the lush Pine Needle Forest, Dai Wei saw flashes of firelight as a team that had previously entered Mangrove circled around from behind Stilt House, surrounding and blocking off the retreat of the welcoming party.
Dai Wei's mind went blank; he almost lost his ability to think.
How did Rebels suddenly become armed? Even if they were dissatisfied with Jin Bo, was it necessary to turn their weapons against neighbors and friends they had lived alongside?
Suddenly, Dai Wei remembered that Luo Yu was still among the welcoming party. It felt as if a burning bomb exploded in his chest; his blood boiled instantly as he gritted his teeth and charged forward.
The gunfire from the welcoming party did not last long. Dai Wei dashed through Pine Needle Forest, hiding among dense Lin Ye foliage to avoid another group converging from Saddle Vine Path. At that moment, he realized something was off—this group was not island residents at all. They all wore standardized field combat uniforms and were equipped with military-grade weapons; nearly half of them had Western features.
Dai Wei was stunned; his thoughts momentarily stalled before he recalled what Song Jiu had said about those people.
Two groups of people, numbering over a hundred at a glance, descended upon the island without warning, launching a deadly attack from behind the wedding procession.
Dai Wei suppressed the intense unease within him, nocking an arrow onto the taut bowstring. He bent low and followed in the footsteps of those individuals. At that moment, Dai Wei was undoubtedly impulsive; despite knowing he might lose his life, he pressed on without hesitation because Luo Yu was among the wedding party, and there was a bride waiting for her groom in the Stilt House, along with his close friends and companions.
Dai Wei silently crossed the Saddle Vine and concealed himself behind a cluster of shrubs. The two groups had already gathered; some waited in front of the building while others spread out to launch attacks in different directions. Blood flowed like a river in front of the Stilt House, corpses littered the ground. From his vantage point, he saw two women, one tall and one short, standing back to him at the entrance of the Stilt House.
The blood river before him transformed into a flowing dagger, piercing into his chest and brutally cutting at his heart, making it hard for him to breathe.
He had no time to discern the bodies in the pool of blood, nor did he have the heart to ponder why everything had come to this.
Dai Wei's eyes reddened as screams of horror intertwined with serene piano notes shattered in his mind.
He picked up Carbon Arrows, drew back his bowstring, and aimed the glinting arrowhead at the Skull of the tall woman with Golden Hair. As he pulled the string to its limit and released his fingers, a sudden explosion of flames erupted at his target. Startled, Dai Wei released the Carbon Arrow, which shot forth with a piercing whistle, grazing past the Blonde Woman's face as it flew into the inferno.
The sharp arrowhead severed several strands of shimmering golden hair that danced in the air before being licked by flames and turning to ash.
Dai Wei saw the Blonde Woman shudder slightly before she turned her face towards him. A gash opened on her cheek as her gaze pierced through the chaos directly at him.
At that moment, Dai Wei caught sight of a rapidly moving figure out of the corner of his eye.
In an instant, instinct kicked in; Dai Wei rolled to one side just as bullets shredded through the grass where he had been standing moments before.
Ignoring that he was at the center of a storm, Dai Wei quickly looked up to find that figure reappearing in his line of sight. Glimmering gold flashed as scattered light particles fell like dust. Song Jiu suddenly emerged into view under the sunlight, wielding an automatic Rifle and rushing out from the path through Saddle Vine.
The muzzle flashed with fire as it unleashed a torrent towards the Stilt House. The Blonde Woman grabbed Sister Jiu and rolled into the bushes while armed thugs stationed outside retaliated with gunfire.
Dai Wei seized the opportunity to shoot two arrows in quick succession, the feathered shafts weaving through the torrent of bullets, appearing somewhat out of place. One arrow missed entirely, while the other pierced through the Thug's pupil, penetrating the Skull.
The gunfire dispersed once more, and as Dai Wei dodged the oncoming fire, he realized that Song Jiu, who had just been standing in the sunlight, had vanished.
Faintly, Dai Wei heard a woman's furious scream, followed by a widespread eruption of gunfire. The Piano Piece came to an end, its piercing notes abruptly replaced by the cacophony of gunshots, igniting a new wave of frenzy.
"Don't go out!"
Yang Xiaomeng nearly screamed, her long hair disheveled, blood smeared across her face blending with her tears. Her slender form crouched in the grass, desperately pinning down the beast-like Song Jiu beneath her. Yang Xiaomeng dared not lift her head or even move; the Armed Thugs from the Stilt House were still sifting through the grass with bullets, leaves scattering wildly and dirt flying everywhere. Craters erupted before her face as if they would pierce her body at any moment.
Song Jiu beneath her had completely lost his sanity; Yang Xiaomeng's pleas fell on deaf ears. He seemed to have lost his ability to speak, only able to emit a desperate howl.
The Stilt House was close at hand, flames leaping up to the second floor. The raging fire radiated intense heat, scorching the surrounding air. Song Jiu's eyes widened in terror, bloodshot and wild as he stared through the swaying blades of grass and swirling dirt at a window. He watched helplessly as a vibrant wildflower on the windowsill wilted and withered away.
Gunfire continued unabated, but it seemed to be spreading further. Yang Xiaomeng risked a glance upward; armed men had scattered along the path, forming several groups heading toward the Cafeteria. More than ten people strode confidently toward the bushes across from them.
Yang Xiaomeng froze for a moment before panic set in. To one side of the burning Stilt House, a figure emerged from the distorted air: a Blonde Woman wiping blood from her cheek with the back of her hand, holding what appeared to be a heavy handgun as she approached leisurely.
"She's coming! She's coming!" Yang Xiaomeng panicked; everything was happening too suddenly for her to react.
Song Jiu let out a low growl from his throat, breaking free from Yang Xiaomeng's grip. He reached for the Rifle and pulled the trigger with force. Flames erupted from the muzzle as shells ejected violently; recoil jolted him back as he plowed through the grass with bullets aimed at the advancing Blonde Woman.
She did not flinch or evade; she seemed oblivious to the bullets flying toward her and maintained her steady pace without any hesitation.
Yang Xiaomeng's heart sank. In an instant, Song Jiu's barrage of bullets ran dry; it was no exaggeration to say that not even a scratch marred the Blonde Woman's skin.
The Blonde Woman stopped a hundred meters away, raising her pistol.
Bang.
The gunshot rang out, but the muzzle of the Blonde Woman's gun did not ignite with fire.
Yang Xiaomeng opened her eyes, stunned and dazed. The Blonde Woman staggered, a burst of blood blossoming at her chest.
Yang Xiaomeng turned to look; the Barbie Doll, who had been hidden away, was sprinting towards them, firing continuously as she ran. Her delicate figure moved nimbly through the trees, flashes of light erupting as bullets found their mark.
The Blonde Woman was hit several times, blood splattering everywhere as she stumbled backward, shock flashing in her sapphire eyes.
"Natalia!" she shouted as she rushed towards Song Jiu. The gunmen surrounding Dai Wei sensed something was wrong and quickly turned back for support. A series of rapid gunshots erupted, blocking the Barbie Doll's path. In the chaos, Yang Xiaomeng saw that the Barbie Doll seemed to have been hit as well.
Song Jiu clenched his Dagger, ready to charge out. Yang Xiaomeng used all her strength to choke him, nearly strangling him. From the bushes once again sprang forth crossbow bolts; some Armed Thugs fell to the ground, arrows piercing them. The barrage of fire spread out in a fan shape across the underbrush, causing chaos.
Natalia stealthily approached, blood streaming from her calf, and together with Yang Xiaomeng, they pulled Song Jiu back rapidly.
Yang Xiaomeng's anger flared up; she raised her hand and slapped the frenzied Song Jiu across the face, pointing at the blazing Stilt House. Tears streamed down her face as she shouted hoarsely, "They're all dead! Damn it, they're all dead!"
Before Yang Xiaomeng could finish her words, a gust of wind swept through, flames roaring violently. The wooden structure of the Stilt House let out a mournful crack before collapsing with a thunderous crash.
Song Jiu's struggling energy drained away completely as he stared blankly at the sea of flames.
Footsteps approached again; faint shouts from men could be heard amidst the increasingly dense gunfire that drowned out the Coast's piercing sounds. Heavy weaponry joined the fray; the king of firing rates entered the battle, unleashing torrents of bullets that painted a dazzling mist of blood. Wu Wentao roared as he laid down machine gun fire on the ground, wildly swinging his gun barrel while Saddle Vine leaves flew through the air. Armed Thugs were torn apart by machine gun bullets, their bodies shredded into pieces.
“Where is Song Jiu Huihui?” Wu Wentao shouted furiously, his gaze fixed and unyielding.
Yang Xiaomeng's expression suddenly changed as she exclaimed, “At Island Kitchen!”
“Get there now!” Wu Wentao's eyes were wild with rage, and he emptied his ammunition belt, completely driving the armed thugs on this path back to their origins.
From the dense grass across the way, Dai Wei and Cao Zheng leaped out and sprinted to join together. Dai Wei tossed a crossbow to Yang Xiaomeng, his face pale as he murmured, “Where is Luo Yu?”
“Also at Island Kitchen,” Yang Xiaomeng replied, tying her hair up. She used an arrowhead to cut through her dress, tearing away the obstructive hem. Looking up, she saw Cao Zheng's figure swaying unsteadily.
A bitter taste filled Yang Xiaomeng's mouth as she opened her lips to speak but found no words; tears began to flow instead.
Cao Zheng's eyes reflected the raging inferno, and suddenly, he broke down in tears.
