Chapter 165: The Overbearing CEO and the Escaping Heiress
The first light of dawn broke through the horizon, casting a gentle glow over the vast blue sky dotted with fluffy white clouds. A pleasant morning breeze swept through, making the scene quite delightful.
In the distance, a long line of vehicles was slowly moving forward. As the camera zoomed in, it became clear that this long line was made up of dozens of cars of varying sizes, their bodies covered in muddy grime as if they had come from some remote wilderness. The rapidly spinning wheels kicked up gravel and fine dust from the ground, creating a cloud of smoke that billowed impressively.
The convoy was headed toward a large complex, where the Container department had already noticed these unexpected guests from the wasteland. They had tidied up early and were prepared to stand by at any moment.
Cheng Long glanced at his watch; the minute hand ticked lightly—seven o'clock sharp.
"That was fast. I thought we would have to wait half a month," Chen Zhao Zhou mumbled with a toothbrush stuffed in his mouth, foam hanging at the corners of his lips.
Cheng Long pressed his thin lips together and smiled. "I guess they didn't stop along the way."
"How should we handle this? Are you going to meet them alone, or should we all cheer together?" Chen Zhao Zhou spat out the foam and rinsed his mouth with water, flashing a grin that revealed two rows of pearly white teeth.
"Everyone come out and be more serious," Cheng Long said, gazing at the rising dust clouds in the distance with a hint of helplessness in his tone. "After all, he is now the Boss."
"I'll go gather everyone," Chen Zhao Zhou nodded and turned to call for their people. As he turned back, he spotted Su Lan standing in the wind wrapped in a coat, her long hair flying around her, her expression cool and distant.
"Good morning," Chen Zhao Zhou greeted her and leaned closer to whisper, "Aren't you curious about who we're serving? They're here."
"Suddenly, I don't want to know anymore," Su Lan tightened her coat around herself, an inexplicable sense of unease washing over her.
"What a fickle woman," Chen Zhao Zhou chuckled lightly and shook his head as he walked away.
Zeng Yadong leaned against the Container entrance with a short knife in hand, his eyes squinting behind his glasses. It was unclear whether he couldn't open them due to the wind or if he was lost in thought about something else.
The entire Container Camp was quickly assembled, a row of muscular men with different skin tones and faces, all dressed in uniform black combat gear, standing silently in the open area in front of the camp. Cheng Long and Chen Zhao Zhou stood at the forefront of the group, hands clasped behind their backs. Su Lan noticed a distinct bulge at their waists, clearly indicating that they were concealing firearms.
Suddenly feeling a bit bored, Su Lan turned back towards her own Container. Next to her was Zeng Yadong, with a distance of three to five meters between them, both maintaining the same posture as they quietly observed the welcoming formation ten meters away.
Zeng Yadong turned his head and winked at her, asking, "When are we moving?"
"Just wait a bit longer; Cheng Long still doesn't fully trust me," Su Lan replied, her gaze fixed ahead as she spoke rapidly. "Is the information you wrote on the note reliable? All in the Laboratory?"
"It should be fine; there are handover procedures at Cheng Long's place. I saw it written on the sign above—it's definitely Laboratory," Zeng Yadong tilted his head in thought and added, "Maybe I'll go check it out tonight."
"No need; don't let him suspect you," Su Lan shifted her gaze to Zeng Yadong, her eyes softening slightly. "I appreciate your help."
"It's nothing; I'm just a bit worried. Can you handle this alone?" Zeng Yadong glanced at the formation, noting that the people in the convoy seemed quite significant, and today no one was watching them.
"Yeah, it's easier to get in than to come out. It's better for you to stay outside and keep an eye on things," Su Lan sighed softly. "I hope they're all okay."
"Let's hope so."
"They're here; let's go take a look." Su Lan tucked her hair behind her ear and tightened her clothing as she strode towards the crowd.
The convoy moved quickly; before Su Lan could reach them, a black business SUV had already stopped in front of Cheng Long and his companion. The door swung open, and a Black Strong Man jumped out from the driver's seat. He nodded at Cheng Long, then reached back to open the door. A half-burnt cigar was tossed out, and the man stepped out of the vehicle, his polished shoes crushing the cigar into the dirt.
Adjusting his crisply ironed suit, he looked at the silent and orderly formation before him and smiled. "Haven't taken a long-distance trip in twenty years; this journey has been quite something."
Cheng Long swallowed hard, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes but quickly masked: "Thank you for your hard work."
Standing at the back of the line, Su Lan felt a bit annoyed. The muscular men in front of her were all broad-shouldered, and without high heels, she could only see a bunch of bald heads. Zeng Yadong stood on the other side, watching Su Lan's futile attempts to peek around, unable to suppress a chuckle. Su Lan shot her a glare, crossing her arms and sulking in place, cursing silently in her heart.
The people at the front of the line were chatting and laughing. The wind and sand in the Gobi Desert were strong that morning, making it hard to hear their voices, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves, bursts of hearty laughter occasionally ringing out.
As Su Lan complained about the lack of gentlemanly behavior among these hulking men, suddenly the serious line split into two, creating a path that exposed her completely. Even though Su Lan had seen her fair share of chaos, she felt her face flush red with embarrassment. With a mortified expression, she hurriedly stepped aside with the muscular men, staring down at the gravel beneath her feet, her cheeks burning.
A gentle breeze stirred up some dust, causing the fine sand and gravel to rustle softly. The entire camp fell silent.
Chen Zhao Zhou stifled a laugh and glanced at Cheng Long and Big Boss beside him, only to notice that Big Boss's expression had suddenly changed. Chen Zhao Zhou nudged Cheng Long, signaling him to smooth things over, thinking to himself how petty this boss was being.
Su Lan had been staring at the ground for quite some time when she suddenly felt all eyes on her. Confused, she lifted her head, only to freeze in place.
...
The atmosphere turned strangely awkward; everyone, including Cheng Long, was puzzled by what was happening... Did this boss just lock eyes with Su Lan?
Cheng Long leaned over and nudged the Black Strong Man next to him, sending an inquiring glance his way. The man shrugged his shoulders, indicating he couldn't help either. He then turned back and waved over a Blonde Woman who had just jumped down from a vehicle.
Cheng Long thought to himself that this was bad and spoke up: "This—"
But before he could finish his sentence, the boss raised a hand to silence him and walked straight toward the frozen Su Lan. In front of everyone’s gaze, he unexpectedly grabbed Su Lan by the nape of her neck and lifted her like a small chick out of the line. Su Lan didn’t resist; she didn’t even make a sound as she stumbled along behind this domineering figure.
