Chapter 158: Lurking (Part One) 0

The ambush went surprisingly smoothly; in the blink of an eye, the two groups had swapped roles. 0

The bald old man was a beat slow to react. By the time he thought about fleeing, it was already too late. Faced with several dark gun barrels, this bureaucrat chose to raise his hands in surrender. "It's useless; you're just wasting your effort," he said calmly, crouching down with his hands on his head. 0

"Shut up," Xiao Wei snapped fiercely, rummaging through one of the black-clad men and pulling out a set of keys to unlock the handcuffs and leg irons of his companions. 0

"Girl, let go; we still have questions for her. Don't strangle her," Ming Junwei said as he dragged the black-clad woman he had knocked down into the cell. The red-haired woman had her tongue hanging out, while Wheat was still relentlessly tightening the cuffs. It seemed that unless someone shouted 'stop,' Wheat intended to keep squeezing indefinitely. 0

Another black-clad man was still struggling. Xiao Wei had elbowed him in the eye, and by the time he recovered, he had already been disarmed. When it came to close combat and disarming opponents, Xiao Wei was indeed an expert; despite being handcuffed, taking down two black-clad men hadn’t taken much effort. Jin Bo's combat effectiveness had diminished without his long knife, but he made up for it with sheer ferocity. Unable to overpower his opponent in a wrist lock, he used his own head as a battering ram, banging it against the other man's face until it was bruised and bloodied, while his own forehead also bore several bumps. 0

Xiao Wei stood guard at the door with a rifle while Ming Junwei and Jin Bo ushered the captured men into the cell, chaining them together with handcuffs. The red-haired woman regained some composure but cowered behind the bald old man, making strange choking sounds like a chicken whose neck had been cut. Ming Junwei approached her and touched her neck; she gasped in shock and fell back onto the ground, scrambling away. 0

Ming Junwei chuckled; he had merely intended to check if Wheat had injured her throat, not expecting her to misinterpret his intentions. 0

"Brother Ming, are we done yet?" Xiao Wei asked anxiously. The curved passageway didn’t have any surveillance cameras, but everything had gone so smoothly that breaking out of the cage felt off somehow. 0

"Wait a moment," Ming Junwei gestured for Xiao Wei to calm down as he and Jin Bo stripped the black-clad men down to their bare essentials in a hurry. 0

"Answer me a few questions, and I won’t kill you. How does that sound?" Ming Junwei said as he toyed with a combat knife in his hand while stripping one particularly burly man whose clothes didn’t quite fit him. The old man and woman exchanged nervous glances at the sight of the knife. 0

"What do you want to know?" The bald old man steadied himself and forced himself to sit up. 0

Ming Junwei slid the sharp-edged Combat Knife back into the leather sheath at his boot, staring intently at the old man's face. "Where is this place?" 0

"The Experiment Center," the old man replied, glancing at Jin Bo, who was watching closely, and subtly nudging the woman aside. 0

"Where exactly? Is it under the Establishment or RCA?" 0

"I don't know." 0

"One more chance," Ming Junwei raised an eyebrow. Seeing the old man remain unresponsive, he pointed at the woman. "Little Gold, Wheat, hold her down." 0

"Ah! No! I'll tell you... this isn't the Establishment or RCA! Please don't hurt me, I'm just a file manager..." The Red-Haired Woman erupted in panic, jumping up high before Little Gold could pin her down, spilling everything. 0

The old man looked at her with a defeated expression and then sighed deeply. "Don't bully her." 0

"Then you answer. Understand?" Ming Junwei clicked his tongue, sensing that things were not as he had imagined. He continued to question, "What does she mean? If this isn't the Establishment or RCA, then who do you work for?" 0

"I don't know—no, I mean, I don't know who is at the top! Don't be impulsive!" The old man realized Ming Junwei had drawn his knife again and quickly added, "I work in the Flesh Fungus Warehouse; I'm not on the front lines of the Laboratory. I really have no idea who the boss here is." 0

"Where is this? Which city?" Ming Junwei asked, noticing that the old man seemed genuine. He recalled that he himself was just a small player outside of RCA's main operations and decided to trust him. 0

The Bald Old Man looked like he was about to cry, his wrinkled face contorted with worry. "Little brother, you're asking about prohibited regulations; I don't know anything! I came here on a vehicle and wore a hood all the way; I have no idea where this is." 0

"Oh?" Ming Junwei nodded thoughtfully. "You've never been outside?" 0

"No, my authority isn't enough." The old man, seeing the change in his expression, cautiously said, "Little brother, our statuses are quite similar; it's just that you are in a small cage while we are in a big one. There's no need for this..." 0

"Cut the crap. I'm asking you, what are you doing with so many people? Where were you planning to take us?" Ming Junwei interrupted the old man's lament, estimating that this fellow wasn't a big shot and probably wouldn't have much useful information. 0

The old man hesitated for a moment, glancing at the glinting blade, and stammered, "It's for... cultivation..." 0

"What?" Ming Junwei raised an eyebrow, his expression suddenly changing. 0

"I'll tell you, I'll tell you." The old man took a deep breath and looked at the Red-Haired Woman huddled in the corner, sobbing. He helplessly said, "This place is full of healthy specimens; the laboratory regularly needs subjects that meet certain standards." 0

Jin Bo's teeth ground together audibly as he coldly asked, "For what purpose?" 0

"Cell typing, antibody research, and... semi-finished reagent cultivation." The old man finally spilled everything after much hesitation. "In short, they do all kinds of experiments you can think of. Animals can't meet the laboratory's requirements, so they need human subjects—specifically healthy ones. You are the qualified specimens brought back from various places." 0
