"Think about it, what if those zombies outside still retain their consciousness? What would the world become?" An Zheng suddenly posed a question. 0

"Wouldn't they die?" Ming Junwei felt an absurd sensation wash over him. 0

"If you, I, Jiang He, Song Yao, and everyone in this room, as long as our brains are intact, no matter what damage our bodies suffer, we wouldn't die. We wouldn't need to eat or drink, we wouldn't need to sleep or get sick. What does that mean?" An Zheng smiled knowingly. "Isn't it crazy? It sounds like a bizarre experiment by a mad scientist." 0

"This... this..." Ming Junwei felt his throat dry up, struggling to articulate his thoughts. 0

After a moment of silence, Ming Junwei decided to set aside that question for now. "What happened next?" 0

"Then we continued with the reverse experiment. Progress was very smooth; we found a direction for developing the vaccine and made some breakthroughs." 0

"That smooth?" Ming Junwei was astonished. 0

"Exactly. We were just as incredulous. You have to understand, it had already been a month since the Cataclysm. If we could maintain this pace in developing an antidote, this conspiracy-laden disaster could have been completely avoided!" An Zheng said excitedly, pausing to catch his breath. "But then the power supply became insufficient. We had to submit our findings to prevent the disaster from continuing." 0

Ming Junwei chuckled. "Sounds like something out of an American blockbuster. It can't be that simple, right? You said it was a conspiracy." 0

"Of course." An Zheng smiled in understanding. "How could the headquarters not know about such a serious issue when our unintentional little experiment uncovered it?" 0

"Yeah, without approval from above, who would think of researching this?" Ming Junwei shrugged and suddenly recalled something An Zheng had mentioned earlier, his expression shifting. "Could the person who ordered you to destroy the data also have discovered this issue?!" 0

An Zheng nodded in agreement. "That's what we thought too. So we came up with a hypothesis." 0

"You guys are really something; if it were me, I would have run away long ago and never gotten involved in such a whirlpool," Ming Junwei teased sincerely. 0

"Since we joined the project team, it was destined for us to get involved," An Zheng said nonchalantly. "We believe something went wrong at the top; perhaps the original intention was to develop a Vaccine, but later it was redirected by someone." 0

"What does that even mean? As you said, you are just a part of a vast research chain and can't change anything," Ming Junwei suddenly felt a bit disheartened. 0

"Not necessarily; it depends on the original intent," An Zheng replied, fixing her hair and gazing out the window. "That's why I took the core data of the dual research with me, hoping to reach the headquarters and make this information public." 0

"That's too idealistic. Such individual heroism doesn't align with our national conditions," Ming Junwei scoffed. The shock he felt earlier gradually subsided, replaced by a deeper sense of helplessness. 0

An Zheng smiled in agreement. "You're right, especially after the Power Station was attacked. I don't want to bear this pressure anymore." 0

"So you want to heed that person's advice and go abroad?" 0

"Yes, I don't want to die; I still have children." An Zheng's eyes showed signs of fatigue, and her words finally revealed a woman's vulnerability. "When you realize that what you invested your energy in isn't what you imagined, you feel particularly desperate. When we were at the camp, I went with He Yong and others to Station No. 2. It was completely deserted; all communication with the troops and our internal contacts had failed. At that moment, I thought about giving up. The waters are too deep; I can't change anything, and continuing would only lead to death. The White Company Commander is an example; I got them killed." 0

"You can't blame yourself..." Ming Junwei stood beside her, trying to comfort her. "Things are always more complicated than we imagine; it's never too late to see through it." 0

"It's too late." An Zheng shrugged and replied calmly. "Who are those people? How did they find the Power Station? There must be a connection. When I was at the camp, I showed the data to the White Company Commander, thinking I could rely on military strength to relay it, but instead, it brought disaster." 0

"Do you still have the data?" Ming Junwei asked. 0

"Yes, I sent a message to the Research Center informing them of the situation here." 0

"When did that happen?" 0

"It was also done while at the camp; I didn't tell anyone, and the White Company Commander didn't say anything either." An Zheng's tone carried a hint of fear. "If those people traced me through the information I sent out, it means something has happened at the research institute in the city as well. Plus, considering what you saw with Su Lan in the county..." 0

Ming Junwei didn't know what to say. An Zheng had suddenly chosen today to spill everything, one shocking revelation after another; he found it hard to process. 0

"So I want to see Su Lan. I need to know what exactly happened at the research institute," An Zheng said, his gaze turning resolute. "The core information is known only to me and two other teachers. The White Company Commander doesn't understand these matters. Since they are coming after me, it must mean that the two teachers are also in trouble." 0

Ming Junwei sighed as he poured the porridge from the pot into a large basin. "Let's eat first. After we finish, I'll accompany you to the county town to find someone. By the way, what's going on with going abroad? How do we get out?" 0

"Do you want to leave?" An Zheng smiled gratefully. "At that time, we were given the coordinates. I checked, and it's at Jiuquan Launch Base." 0

"Is it reliable? After hearing all this from you, I feel like we're surrounded by danger," Ming Junwei said as he opened the kitchen door and shouted, "Dinner's ready!!!" 0

Upstairs and downstairs, a group of hungry souls got up and rushed into the living room, sitting in a row, waiting for the great chef to serve them. 0

"It should be reliable. Additionally, I received a message from the research institute, but the camp was flooded, and I couldn't check it. That's why I'm still carrying the materials," An Zheng lowered his voice. "I believe it was a warning sent from the institute, but unfortunately, I couldn't discover it in time." 0

"Then you can't blame yourself for that; who would have thought there would be a flash flood?" Ming Junwei said as he picked up the large basin and shook his head. "Let's serve the food." 0

Talking was a good remedy; at least in Jiang He's eyes, Dr. An seemed much better today in spirit and complexion. The worry that had lingered between his brows had vanished without a trace, and he was more talkative. 0

Jiang He cast an unkind glance at Ming Junwei, his eyes filled with ambiguity. 0

"What?" Ming Junwei felt uneasy under his gaze, thinking to himself that Song Yao couldn't satisfy this guy? Why was he now eyeing him? 0
