Chapter Twenty-Four: The Farce 0

"They have guns!" the Round-Headed Man shouted, only to receive another blow. 0

Bai Yudong waved his hand and whispered, "Spread out a bit, keep your heads down." 0

Everyone felt a bit tense, unsure of where the attack might come from. The Color Steel House was small, and outside the doors and windows were the approaching Zombies. Inside, there was only a low hole leading to a narrow space. If Mediterranean intended to lure them here, it was likely that an ambush had already been set up. 0

Jiang He stayed close to Song Yao, slowly crouching by the door, his palm sweaty around the handle of his knife. Outside the low hole was a gloomy scene, with steel frames and wild grass intertwining into a strange picture. 0

Bai Yudong and Ming Junwei had tied the two captives together with armed restraints and pulled a bed frame to block the door. Pan Luo held the little boy in her arms; although fear was evident in his eyes, his small fists were tightly clenched. 0

"Don't be afraid, sister will protect you," Pan Luo said, her cheeks flushed from being singed by sparks earlier, though it wasn't serious. 0

The little boy puffed out his chest and quietly replied, "I'm not afraid." 0

Song Yao peeked through the crack in the door. The enemy had thrown a Molotov Cocktail, which had already extinguished. The Zombies several dozen meters away were swarming back and forth; it seemed like the enemy just wanted to cut off their escape route. However, Song Yao was still puzzled—what would that accomplish? Even if they were trapped inside, what could happen? Did the enemy set up some kind of trap within this Color Steel House? 0

Song Yao skeptically pressed down on the floor; it felt ordinary enough and didn’t seem like it would suddenly open up. 0

At this moment, the two captives had shown their true colors. Despite having taken a beating, their arrogance remained unshaken; they acted as if they had already secured victory over everyone. No matter how Bai Yudong and Ming Junwei interrogated them, they refused to answer. 0

After a moment of tense vigilance among the group, nothing happened inside the Color Steel House aside from the distant gathering of Zombies, making everyone feel somewhat alarmed for no reason. 0

Chao Yifan shot a sidelong glance at the two captives and walked over with an unfriendly expression. He twirled his knife in his fingers, its shiny blade reflecting light. 0

Mediterranean instinctively swallowed hard as Chao Yifan approached him. He tried to lean back but found himself against the wall. 0

"W-what do you want?" Mediterranean stammered, avoiding eye contact with the Bald Kid. 0

Chao Yifan spat on the ground and pressed the tip of his knife against Mediterranean's shoulder wound, asking, "Do you think you can trick us into coming here and get away with it?" 0

Mediterranean dared not breathe too loudly for fear of provoking this little beast into stabbing him again. He cursed his companions inwardly. 0

"Where are your people? What’s your purpose in trapping us here?" Chao Yifan applied some pressure; the stainless steel tip penetrated slightly into the bloody hole on his shoulder before stopping. 0

Mediterranean gasped, his body trembling in pain as he begged for mercy. 0

Bai Yudong and Ming Junwei exchanged glances before turning away, pretending not to see. 0

Pan Luo stared blankly at Chao Yifan's fierce demeanor, suddenly remembering the little boy still in her arms. She hurriedly tried to cover his eyes, but the boy was even more focused than she was, gripping Pan Luo's arms tightly and refusing to let her block his view. 0

Jiang He frowned, hesitating to speak. Song Yao waved him off and whispered, "Don't let your compassion get the better of you." 0

"How could I?" Jiang He replied with a grimace, though he couldn't help feeling a twinge of sympathy—just a little. 0

The zombies moved slowly but were clearly multiplying, creating a frightening spectacle as they gathered in large numbers. Jiang He estimated that the Color Steel House wouldn't withstand a massive assault from the zombies, and it seemed Mediterranean's companions were as useless as limp noodles; after throwing their Molotov cocktails, they had gone silent. 0

Even though Mediterranean was being tortured by Chao Yifan, he had only uttered meaningless pleas and curses, leaving everyone astonished at the stubbornness of this guide. 0

The blade was half embedded in the wound, causing the scab to break open again and blood to seep through, soaking his shirt. 0

Mediterranean shivered uncontrollably, his screams turning into distorted cries. Chao Yifan didn't bother to cover his mouth; he had made up his mind that if this guy didn't talk soon, he would toss him into the horde of zombies. 0

Bai Yudong tossed the empty gun to Ming Junwei and moved to check the hole in the wall. 0

The small hole was located in the corner and was particularly low. From this angle, even if she crouched down, she could only see the garbage pile directly ahead; the high walls and water tower on either side were obscured from view. Bai Yudong had initially thought that Mediterranean's companions would attack from the entrance, but it turned out they had only drawn in a horde without any further action. 0

Ming Junwei disagreed; he believed this hole had been deliberately made for them. Although everything seemed normal outside, it was better to be cautious. 0

Jiang He touched the back wall and asked, "Can we make a hole here?" 0

"No," Ming Junwei shook his head. "The inside is made of color steel sandwich panels. We won't move unless they do. If they have the ability to come through that hole—Yi Fan, forget it. The place is already covered in blood; the zombies will go wild." 0

Chao Yifan reluctantly withdrew his knife and grabbed Mediterranean by the collar, dragging him toward the door. The two captives were tied together, causing Round-Headed Man to tumble to the ground as well. 0

"What are you doing?" Jiang He couldn't help but ask when he saw Chao Yifan's gloomy expression. 0

"Throwing them out," Chao Yifan replied without looking back as he opened the door. 0

Mediterranean and Round-Headed Man turned pale but did not plead for mercy again; they simply gritted their teeth and desperately tried to pull back. 0

Jiang He instinctively wanted to stop, but the words stuck in his throat and he couldn't say anything. 0

Ming Junwei held his hand down and said, "Let's wait and see what they have to say." 0

Chao Yifan glanced back at him and asked, "What if we can't reach an agreement?" 0

"Throw it away," Ming Junwei replied lightly, releasing Chao Yifan. 0

The latter nodded and closed the door behind him. 0

Mediterranean sighed in relief, knowing that for now, their lives were safe, and his eyes began to dart around again. 0

Jiang He peered through the curtains, unable to fathom what the other side was plotting. The straightforward path had already been taken over by the Zombies; could they possibly descend from the sky? 0

As if the Heavens were cooperating with Jiang He, just as this thought crossed his mind, a series of dull thuds echoed above them! 0

Everyone was startled and looked up at the ceiling of the Color Steel House. Moments later, there was a sound of something heavy hitting the ground after a hole appeared. Before Bai Yudong, who stood by the opening, could react, several can-like hard objects were thrown in, trailing smoke! 0

Bai Yudong reacted quickly; he kicked one away and immediately pushed a nearby door panel to block the opening while shouting, "Get down!" 0
