Chapter 012: Firestorm and Zombie 0

"You've pissed me off, kid," Zhou Huai shouted angrily, glaring up at the floor above. 0

Chao Yifan scoffed dismissively and pointed at him, saying, "It's easy to act tough, but it's hard to maintain it. Enjoy it while you can!" With that, he tossed another bottle. 0

The four below hurriedly dodged to the side. Guo Fatty felt a burst of flames singe a large patch of his hair, cursing loudly, "Damn you, you little brat! I swear I'll take you down!" 0

"Idiot," Chao Tianwang sneered, flipping him the bird before tossing his hand again. 0

The four of them retreated awkwardly to one side of the roundabout, distancing themselves from the fire's reach. Qiangzi spat in frustration and cursed, "Zhou Ge, what do we do now?" 0

Zhou Huai surveyed the situation carefully for a moment and said, "Smash the glass! I wanted to use this place as a base, but that's out of the question now. The zombies are probably on their way. Break the glass and grab a car to escape!" 0

The four scattered and moved around the corner. Qiangzi ran the fastest, dashing to the roll-up gate, dodging the fire bottles thrown from above. He picked up a piece of pavement and smashed it against the glass wall. 0

Fortunately, the glass curtain wall was high-quality material purchased by Chao Yifan at a hefty price; it wouldn't break easily with just one brick. However, Zhou Huai and the others soon joined in, using knife backs and iron chains in turns. In no time, they had created a spiderweb of cracks. 0

"Damn it!" Chao Tianwang exclaimed anxiously. "These bastards are ruthless! We can't just sit here drinking!" 0

"Look!" Little Gold tugged at his sleeve, pointing urgently at the scene below. 0

Chao Yifan squinted his eyes and felt a chill run down his spine. "So many!" 0

On another layer of the roundabout road, a dense horde of zombies had already emerged from the thick fog. 0

"We're dead! We're dead! How can there be so many?!" Chao Tianwang was completely panicked. This batch of zombies trailed behind with long tails; although they were not clearly visible, their dark outlines were evident. A massive swarm like this could easily crush through the roll-up gate below... flattening the bar would only take minutes. 0

“Yi Fan…” Little Gold's legs gave way, and she collapsed onto the ground. 0

“Get up! We need to run!” Chao Yifan felt a tingling sensation at the back of his head; he could vaguely hear the roars of Zombies approaching. 0

In the hot pot restaurant, Gao Yang and Fifth tightly covered their mouths, crouching in the darkest corner of the shop, terrified as they watched the horde of Zombies marching outside. 0

“It’s over…” Gao Yang closed his eyes in despair, unable to bear looking at the blinding flames any longer. 0

Meanwhile, the four downstairs smashing the glass doors were still oblivious to the danger that loomed. They continued to pound on the glass with all their might. Fat Boss wiped the sweat from his brow and looked at the cracks on the glass curtain wall, saying, “Isn’t anyone else here? How long do we have to keep smashing this?” 0

“You go get the big hammer from Fifth!” Zhou Huai was also getting anxious. The seemingly thin layer of curtain wall was surprisingly resilient, which frustrated him; it was infuriating to be outsmarted by a kid. 0

Fat Boss nodded and turned to run. As he dashed away, he was careful not to get hit by any flying bottles. He glanced back at the second floor but found it completely empty; the person who had been setting fires just moments ago had vanished. 0

“Hey? Where are they?” Fat Boss stopped in his tracks and then heard a series of screams that chilled him to the bone. 0

With cold sweat covering his face, Fat Boss turned around to see a dark mass of Horde of Zombies appearing on the street near the roundabout. A male Zombie stumbled at the front, dragging a nearly decayed leg before falling to the ground. Before he could get back up, he was trampled by other Zombies behind him. The overwhelming stench mixed with the burnt smell from the street as numerous Zombies seemed to have detected the source of noise and flames, emitting excited hissing sounds as they scattered towards it. 0

Fat Boss's face turned pale as he took a few unsteady steps back before turning and running! 0

The movement of living humans sent all the Zombies into a frenzy. The Horde of Zombies crossing the Green Belt began to move as well; although they still stumbled about, a sea of Zombies started to act, creating a truly horrifying scene. 0

Reaching an intersection, Fat Boss despaired as he noticed shadows of Zombies appearing on that side too. He spun around in circles, realizing that he alone would not be enough to satisfy the hunger of the Horde of Zombies, so he decisively ran back to the bar entrance. Zhou Huai saw him empty-handed and was about to yell when he noticed Fat Boss was drenched in sweat and terrified, pointing behind him. The other two also paused their work and turned to look. 0

Upon seeing this, they felt as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over their heads. 0

Zhou Huai let out a suppressed roar of anger and took a few steps back before charging straight into the cracked glass curtain wall! 0

After a muffled sound, the glass curtain wall remained intact, and Zhou Huai crouched down in pain, hugging his shoulders. 0

"Retreat." Zhou Huai cast a reluctant glance at the nearby shelter before leading the charge out. 0

The open space in front of the bar was ablaze, and Chao Yifan, that troublemaker, had not only thrown Molotov cocktails but also set fire to many wooden materials, tossing them into the Green Belt and onto the street trees. At this moment, flames surrounded the entrance of the bar, and against the backdrop of the firelight, a dense horde of zombies had already closed in. Leading the escape, Zhou Huai swung his knife fiercely, taking down a few zombies before retreating in despair. The streets on both sides of the roundabout were already packed with zombies; unless he was given a machine gun, a mere knife would be useless. 0

There was little time to think. Zhou Huai and his companions were already engaged in close combat with the horde of zombies. No one expected such a situation to arise. After a brief moment of fear and despair, their survival instincts ignited a fierce determination. Zhou Huai wielded his cutter with swift and powerful strikes, decapitating the first few zombies he encountered. Qiangzi followed closely behind him, clearing out positions that Zhou Huai might overlook. The two worked seamlessly together, their long knife and short dagger complementing each other perfectly. Although the encirclement by zombies was tightening, their fearless bravery allowed them to forcefully break through the densest part of the horde, gradually approaching a weaker side. 0

On the other side, Fat Boss and Chengcai were not so fortunate. Chengcai was just a young man who had never fought against such a large-scale zombie attack before. While his motorcycle chain could tear off large chunks of flesh from zombies, it couldn’t kill them. In terror, as he saw a group of zombies charging towards him, he let out a piercing scream and irrationally threw himself into the horde. 0

The zombies instantly overwhelmed Chengcai's frail body. Amidst his desperate and hoarse screams, flesh was torn away piece by piece by the zombies. Chengcai watched helplessly as a male zombie clawed open his chest and abdomen, hot intestines spilling out as they were fought over by other zombies. His spleen was bitten through, blood pouring from his mouth and nose; he no longer had the strength to wail as his head drooped weakly. 0

Witnessing this scene left Fat Boss cold with fear. He glanced at Zhou Huai and Qiangzi trapped on the other side before looking back at Chengcai's bloodied face and wide-open eyes. Boss Gu began to tremble violently. 0

"I don't want to die! I don't want to die..." Fat Boss muttered to himself. Taking advantage of the moment when a group of zombies were preoccupied with Chengcai's corpse, he hurriedly picked up a burning table leg from the ground and ran toward the bar, frantically smashing against the glass curtain wall. 0

Suddenly, he noticed two figures behind the glass—two young people, a boy and a girl, watching him with complex expressions. 0

Fat Boss fell to his knees in front of the glass curtain wall, crying out hoarsely: "Help me! Please!! Save me!!" He didn't know if the two on the other side could hear his cries. Illuminated by firelight, he saw several zombies staggering toward him in reflection on the glass surface. 0

Fat Boss's snot and tears mixed together as he turned to look at the approaching zombies and struggled to stand up again. 0
