Yi Tianchen was certainly no stranger to this name.
The Old NPC, who had previously been indifferent, chuckled and said, "That's right, this is the Exile Zone. Here lies the end of countless evildoers, cast away until the end of their lives. You’re no exception; those bones are your tomorrow. Accept your fate!"
Accept his fate?
Yi Tianchen would never accept such a fate, but the current situation indeed left him feeling conflicted. The entire Exile Zone was surrounded by swirling yellow sand, beneath which lurked terrifying Scorpions. With level 8 skills, didn’t that indicate the owner of those skills was at level 80?
Looking at his own situation, Yi Tianchen was still at the initial level of 1. He had no equipment and no items. Charging recklessly at an 80-level Brute Scorpion would be nothing short of seeking death.
Was he really being forced to consider starting over?
"You must have a way to leave here, right?" Yi Tianchen asked, his thoughts becoming chaotic as he glared at the seemingly gleeful Old NPC, wishing he could subject him to severe interrogation and bring forth all the tortures from history.
"I certainly have a way to leave here, but..." The Old NPC chuckled and shook his head. "You may not be that lucky person!"
"What do you mean?"
"You clearly belong to the human race, yet why do you carry the aura of the Undead? I can even sense an Undead mark deep within your soul," the Old NPC scrutinized Yi Tianchen and continued, "As a human, why were you expelled from the Human Faction?"
There were many questions, but answering them wasn’t difficult. As a successor of the Hell Swordsman, it was not surprising that he bore the aura of the Undead. During his class advancement, Hell Swordsman: Azure Abyss had inscribed an Undead mark on him, allowing him to successfully complete the Hell Swordsman inheritance.
As for being expelled from the Human Faction, Yi Tianchen had no intention of hiding anything. After all, this Old NPC had become his only lifeline. Regardless of the outcome, it was clearly unwise to conceal information; fabricating a tragic backstory was also not advisable.
Unexpectedly, upon hearing this, the Old NPC burst into laughter and clapped his hands. "Humans are still as hypocritical as ever; their nature hasn’t changed in a thousand years! Who would have thought you’d be after a weapon... Wait a minute! What weapon did you just mention?"
"Dragon's Roar!" Yi Tianchen replied.
"Dragon's Roar? The Dragon's Roar among the Three Divine Weapons? Are you sure you’re not mistaken?" The Old NPC suddenly became agitated, gripping Yi Tianchen's arm tightly with his bony hands and gasping for breath. "No, it’s impossible! Dragon's Roar has been missing for over a thousand years; it can't be..."
Yi Tianchen felt a surge of anxiety but quickly chewed over some thoughts, maintaining his composure as he recounted how he discovered Dragon's Roar and, with the help of Dwarf Blacksmith Kahn in Maple Village, ventured to Boundless Land to retrieve Earth's Essence, ultimately breaking the seal of Dragon's Roar.
"So, what you said before was not a lie?" The Old NPC looked at Yi Tianchen, his gaze suddenly clouded. After a brief pause, he seemed to fall into deep contemplation, murmuring, "So it turns out that destined fate has quietly begun."
Yi Tianchen was left speechless; once again, he heard the term "destiny" from an NPC!
"Good lad, well done!" After some reflection, the Old NPC's attitude took a complete turn, praising him with a click of his tongue. "To enter Boundless Land and obtain Earth's Essence is no small feat. Moreover, I seem to sense a power within you..."
"Power? What kind of power?" Yi Tianchen asked, puzzled; it sounded quite mystical!
"Indeed, my senses are never wrong." The Old NPC closed his eyes for a moment to feel it deeply before suddenly opening them wide and laughing. "It’s unmistakable; it is a force of life, one of the Ancient Five Great Powers."
"......"
Yi Tianchen could only remain Speechless again. What was this life force? What were the Ancient Five Great Powers? These concepts were completely foreign to him. Furthermore, there seemed to be no information regarding this in the game’s data.
"It’s just strange; how do you have a mark of ancient power on you? That shouldn’t be possible!" Ignoring Yi Tianchen's Speechless state, the Old NPC began to question in confusion. "Kid, tell me honestly, do you have something mysterious on you?"
"Nothing!"
Yi Tianchen felt that for the first time in his life, he could answer so decisively because everything on him, including a pitiful Copper Coin, had been completely dropped. His inventory was now cleaner than ever!
But despite his thoughts, looking at the serious expression on the Old NPC's face made Yi Tianchen somewhat uncertain. He immediately opened his inventory and saw a diamond-shaped Crystal lying quietly in the corner, emanating a soft greenish glow full of vibrant life.
This was the Elemental Fragment—Wood Fragment—that General Lufeng had given him back at the Haunted Mansion. Yi Tianchen was puzzled; everything else had dropped but why was this fragment still intact? Could it be because it was a quest item?
Moreover, regarding Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth in Zero Era’s understanding: Gold represented slaughter, Wood represented life, Water represented tolerance, Fire represented destruction, and Earth represented hope.
In this context, what the Old NPC referred to as Life Force suddenly made sense. The previously unknown Ancient Five Great Powers became clearer: the power of slaughter, Life Force, the power of tolerance, the power of destruction, and the power of hope.
"Is this what you mean?" Yi Tianchen took out the fragment.
The Old NPC's eyes widened as if he had discovered some kind of miracle, trembling as he said, "Yes, this is one of the Life Forces from the Ancient Five Great Powers. Unfortunately, it's just a damaged fragment; it can't be compared to the Life Force of its time!"
"A damaged fragment?"
Yi Tianchen pondered to himself. This was clearly what was referred to as an Elemental Fragment. Although it could be loosely connected to the concept, when General Lufeng handed the fragment to him, there was no mention of any ancient power—only that it was one of the elements used to operate the Five Elements Soul Sealing Array!
What exactly is the difference between these two claims?
Which of these statements is correct?
Or perhaps... both could be true? Or maybe they are both wrong?
Yi Tianchen felt speechless; this matter was clearly quite perplexing and not just a simple puzzle. With no game data available for reference, relying solely on his intellect to figure it out seemed impossible—at least for now.
So where exactly lies the crux of the problem?
