Putting on the game helmet, Yi Tianchen felt a twinge of worry.
An hour had already passed since the server-wide bounty was issued, meaning he had officially been expelled from the Human Faction. What would happen when he logged in again?
Taking a deep breath, Yi Tianchen finally pressed the start button. Suddenly, everything went dark, and no new prompts appeared; it was just like any other login. However, as his vision gradually returned, the scene before him left him utterly stunned.
Looking around, he realized he was in what appeared to be an abandoned village. The houses were made of mud, but after countless years of erosion, the village had become unrecognizable. Crumbling mud walls were scattered everywhere, creating a scene of desolation.
What place is this?
A question arose in Yi Tianchen's mind. He opened the map, and his current location was marked as a black zone with no textual description. From the world map, he could tell this was one of the most remote areas in the Dreamland Continent.
Estimating roughly, this place was still several hundred miles from Xiliang City to the west and over two thousand miles from Southern Wilderness City to the south. Between them lay vast mountain ranges that were nearly impossible to traverse.
Understanding his general location eased Yi Tianchen's anxious heart. Although he had been assigned to a faraway place, at least it left him with some hope.
He opened his friend list and explained his current situation to Liu Yuhan before contacting The Terminator of Regrets and others. Returning to the present, Yi Tianchen knew he needed to learn more about this mysterious black zone.
With determination, he walked out through the crumbling walls. As far as his eyes could see, there was nothing—no signs of life, not even a blade of grass.
What a desolate village!
Continuing his exploration, he spent nearly half an hour searching every corner of the first half of the village. It was then that Yi Tianchen unexpectedly discovered an elderly NPC with a long white beard dragging on the ground in a low, dilapidated mud house corner.
In that moment, Yi Tianchen felt as if he had been adrift at sea for three days and nights and finally spotted land just as despair began to set in!
“Hello!” Yi Tianchen approached.
The Old NPC didn’t even glance at Yi Tianchen; he remained motionless like a clay statue and coldly replied, “Good? There hasn’t been anyone good who came here.”
“Do you mean… there are others here?” Yi Tianchen asked, somewhat excited. The presence of others meant there was hope!
“There used to be…” The Old NPC rarely smiled; despite his voice being so desolate, he raised his bony arm and pointed to the left front not far away. “There are still quite a few people over there! Perhaps… before long, you’ll be just like them.”
“…”
Yi Tianchen was momentarily stunned. The direction indicated by the Old NPC was precisely where he had intended to check, but he had stopped only because he had seen this Old NPC.
He hurried over, climbing over a section of collapsed mud wall. The sight before him sent a chill down Yi Tianchen's spine. In the corner of the crumbling wall, there were indeed many people, but they had long since turned to bones, scattered across the ground.
"What the hell is this place?"
Yi Tianchen stared blankly for a long time. After walking a bit further and spending nearly half an hour, he finally understood one thing: aside from himself and that Old NPC, there was no one else in this desolate place—not even a single rat.
In simple terms, this was a Restricted Area of life!
Despite this realization, Yi Tianchen's thoughts began to spread purposefully. Why was there such a desolate black domain here? And why was there only one NPC arranged in such an area?
As all the questions converged, Yi Tianchen instinctively realized that his only hope of leaving this godforsaken place lay with that NPC.
Returning to the Old NPC, Yi Tianchen immediately poured out everything he had—topics ranging from astronomy to geography, from the past to the future, from the surroundings to outer space—he held nothing back. Yet, the Old NPC remained unresponsive, showing no reaction for a long time.
Frustrated, Yi Tianchen continued to chat aimlessly for quite some time but still gained nothing.
By the time he left the dilapidated mud house, it was already past three in the afternoon. Yi Tianchen considered his patience commendable, but in front of this elderly Old NPC, it clearly fell short—by a long shot.
With no hope left at his only breakthrough point, Yi Tianchen had no choice but to take matters into his own hands!
After confirming his general location through the local map, he noted that not far from this ruined village lay a desert filled with yellow sand. If he crossed the desert and continued east for about thirty miles, he would reach a vast expanse of lush primeval forest.
He quickly ran out of the village. The sun blazed overhead without any vegetation to provide cover; the sunlight was scorching. Fortunately, this was just a game, and certain effects were adjusted through technical means. After leaving the village, Yi Tianchen sprinted directly toward the east.
Ten minutes later, he found himself on ground covered in rolling yellow sand that felt searing hot underfoot. In some places, the sand even seemed to writhe slightly as if something lay hidden beneath it, ready to spring forth at any moment.
Suddenly, a sound erupted behind him. Before Yi Tianchen could turn around, he felt a chilling wind rush toward his back.
It was murderous intent!
Turning back in desperation, Yi Tianchen was confronted by a massive black scorpion over three meters long, its tail raised high, exuding an aura of destruction. With a swift motion, it struck down, and in an instant, Yi Tianchen felt a piercing pain in his chest—
Venomous Stinger Lv-8! -18500!
The enormous damage number flashed before him, and before he could fully comprehend this terrifying creature, his vision faded into a deathly gray.
Instant kill!
As his sight returned, Yi Tianchen suddenly realized that due to being reset to level one, he had been transported back to the ruined village where he had logged in earlier. At the same time, an aged voice echoed in his ears: "Little one, don't waste your efforts; you can't escape from here."
It was that Old NPC!
Yi Tianchen froze for a moment and pressed on, "Why? What is this place?"
"Hehe... this place?" The Old NPC smiled mysteriously, stroking his white beard. For the first time, a glimmer of spirit shone in his eyes as he solemnly declared, "This is a life Restricted Area. If it must have a name, the most fitting four words would be—Exile Zone!"
"Exile Zone?"
