"Ah? That's true!" I paused for a moment, carefully recalling the events of last night. I really didn't feel that Liu Fei would be involved in hypnosis; rather, he seemed like a desperate outlaw who had lost everything, filled with hatred and violence. With such a personality, it was unlikely he would spend a lot of time studying hypnosis. His skills were impressive, so there was no reason for him to take the long way around to do those things. "It doesn't seem likely."
"Exactly! Also, among the discs we found, there are some videos that appear to have been recorded by Liu Fei using a miniature camera. There are some oddities in them; if you're interested, you can come and take a look right away."
Ah Huang's words piqued my curiosity again. Could it be that there was someone behind Liu Qi? Who could that person be?
After thinking it over, my curiosity ultimately won out. I hurriedly changed my clothes and stopped by the Medical Unit to get the bandage on my leg changed again before rushing out of the camp and taking a taxi to Ah Huang's office.
When I arrived at Ah Huang's office, I pushed the door open and walked in. Ah Huang was sitting in front of his computer looking at something. "Ah Huang!"
He looked up. "You're just in time; we can sort through the clues together."
"What’s going on?"
"I really suspect that Liu Fei is not the final culprit."
"What do you mean? Isn’t Liu Fei the one who killed everyone? We have all the physical evidence, right?"
"It's not that simple. If Liu Fei is indeed the one who killed them, then what role did Liu Qi play in all this?"
"Bait," I replied without thinking.
"Why would Liu Qi act as bait for Liu Fei? They have no connection; what benefit would it bring her?" Ah Huang was leading me through the reasoning.
I opened my mouth but couldn't find an answer.
"Because of hypnosis." Ah Huang slowly stood up and began pacing in the office. "Liu Qi's frequent visits to bars, I bet most of it is due to being hypnotized or influenced in some way. This kind of hypnosis is quite subtle; Liu Qi herself may not even realize it. She probably thinks she's just having fun outside, and the targets she chooses should also be those who have been subconsciously influenced."
"I don't quite understand. If that's the case, isn't it still Liu Fei's doing? He hates rich second-generation kids and despises wealthy people for doing drugs and wasting social resources, so he acts on his beliefs."
Before I could finish my sentence, Ah Huang interrupted me. "Wait, have you noticed something? Liu Fei doesn't know Hypnosis. His military experience and social background suggest that he probably never had the time or mood to learn it, and there's no way he could master it so thoroughly."
"What do you mean?"
"There’s only one explanation: someone is backing Liu Fei and Liu Qi!" Ah Huang turned around decisively. "This person is formidable. My guess is that this whole situation was set up by him, with Liu Fei merely pushed to the forefront. Liu Fei must have encountered Liu Qi by chance, and his long-standing desire for revenge finally found an outlet when he met Liu Qi. But why would this person do such a thing? Does he have a grudge against Liu Qi and Liu Fei?" Ah Huang pondered deeply.
Seeing the troubled expression on Ah Huang's face, I decided to chime in. "Since Liu Fei and Liu Qi share a common circle, why not investigate the people they both interact with?"
Ah Huang's eyes lit up. "That's a great idea!"
He walked over to his desk and began writing furiously. After a while, he handed me a piece of paper. "This is a roster of their common connections based on the clues our scouts gathered earlier. Take a look and see if there's anything valuable."
I took the paper and glanced at it. The first name listed was surprisingly mine!
I looked at Ah Huang in astonishment. He chuckled, "It's just a professional habit; I don't overlook anyone who meets the screening criteria."
"That's nonsense!" I stretched my leg out in front of Ah Huang. "Look at this! Who got hurt because of this? And you're here joking around."
I shot Ah Huang a glare and continued reading down the list. "The second name is Lao Zhao!?" I exclaimed.
Ah Huang smiled wryly. "Although Lao Zhao fits the criteria, it's really unlikely to be him; we can rule him out based on timing. However, the reason I called you over was that we need your help with something. We want you to bring Lao Zhao here; we have some questions for him."
"Of course! Why didn't you say so earlier?" I put down the paper and immediately pulled out my phone to call Lao Zhao.
"Hey, Lao Zhao!" I felt that Lao Zhao had a strong street vibe, so I skipped the formalities and called out directly.
"Hmm? Wang? What do you need me for?"
"It's almost mealtime. Come and eat. The place is the same room at the police station where you came last time. It's not for free; I'll reimburse your travel expenses and hardship fees!" I spoke straightforwardly.
"What the hell?!" Ah Huang exclaimed in surprise.
I was best at using others' generosity to my advantage. I put down the phone, smiled at Ah Huang, and continued to look at the third person: it was none other than Professor Qin!
"Hmm? Why do you suspect Professor Qin?" I asked, staring at Ah Huang.
"Honestly, I can't find any reason to connect Professor Qin to this case. Whether it's his background, social circle, experiences, or history, Professor Qin is very clean. His relationship with Liu Qi is merely that of a doctor and patient, and with Liu Fei, it's just a general practitioner and cleaner relationship. Since Liu Fei is dead, he can't tell us what kind of person Professor Qin really is. If you ask me, I can only say that Professor Qin is a perfect person. Oh, by the way, Liu Fei must have recorded some videos with the camera, including one of him performing hypnosis on Liu Qi, along with some secrets involving Liu Qi and the three missing persons. You can take a look."
As I listened to Ah Huang, it felt like a lightning bolt struck my mind. Suddenly, I seemed to grasp the key to the problem! Ignoring Ah Huang, I pondered over his words again from start to finish in my mind. It wasn't until I reached the second-to-last sentence that I finally realized where the issue lay. Ah Huang said that Professor Qin was a perfect person—yes, that's it! Perfect? Professor Qin? "I get it now; where in the world are there perfect people? Being too perfect instead seems very fake; rather than being perfect, it could be an intentional disguise creating an illusion," I murmured to myself.
Recalling my interactions with Professor Qin, when we were requesting Liu Qi's medical records, we briefly explained the case involving Liu Qi and asked for his cooperation. At that time, Professor Qin simply adjusted his glasses and expressed complete willingness to cooperate and support us. Looking back now, how unbelievable it was! An intellectual would surely show some shock or surprise upon hearing that their patient was involved in such a case. Fine, let's say Professor Qin remained calm and indifferent! However, why would such a calm and indifferent person peek out when Liu Fei was being apprehended only to quickly retreat into the Emergency Room? I distinctly remember glancing down before leaving; our eyes met for a moment before he turned away and disappeared into the Emergency Room. If he were merely curious about the commotion, that wouldn't make sense.
In that instant, my mind raced as I tried to connect all the dots.
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Ah Huang nudged me when he saw me lost in thought.
"What did you just say? Do you have the video of Professor Qin performing hypnosis on Liu Qi?"
"Yeah, Liu Fei recorded it. I don't know why he recorded this—did he have his sights set on Liu Qi all along?" Ah Huang replied curiously.
"Hurry up; let me see!" I urged eagerly.
"It's on this computer; I'll open it for you," Ah Huang answered perplexedly, clearly unaware of my intentions.
Ah Huang walked back to his desk. "Well, here's this segment; it's the only one available. But there's no sound—take a look! See if there's anything useful?"
The video began with an overhead view, the camera seemingly positioned in a corner of a room. The scene depicted what appeared to be the inner chamber of Professor Qin's emergency room, featuring a treatment bed where Liu Qi was lying down. At the same time, Professor Qin sat on a chair beside the bed.
There was no sound. Professor Qin faced away from the camera, his head lowered as he swayed slightly, seemingly engaged in something. Liu Qi's eyes closed.
Then, Professor Qin began the hypnosis treatment while still facing away from the camera. Throughout the entire process, he did not touch Liu Qi at all, which left me confused and somewhat guilty. I had initially wondered if Professor Qin had acted inappropriately towards Liu Qi.
After a hurried viewing, I was left with no clues. The video appeared to show a standard psychological hypnosis session, consisting solely of verbal communication without any physical gestures. Oh, except for the end when Liu Qi woke up after the hypnosis and they exchanged farewells. Professor Qin revealed his face for a moment and spoke a few words; otherwise, he remained turned away from the camera. We were unable to grasp any useful information!
Liu Qi's reactions were visible, starting with a calm demeanor that gradually shifted to furrowed brows and tension, followed by fear, evident head-shaking, and then slow relaxation as she muttered softly. Eventually, she fell silent as if she had fallen asleep. At the very end, something startled Liu Qi awake; her eyes shot open, staring directly at the camera. I was taken aback while watching the video—it felt quite terrifying. Had the hypnosis abruptly jolted her awake?
Although I couldn't discern much, I knew something was amiss! Liu Fei was a scout; he wasn't someone who would act carelessly. He had secretly installed a camera in Professor Qin's treatment room, so it was unlikely he recorded this video just for amusement—there must be clues! Ever since discovering those discs in his yard, I realized Liu Fei must have recorded some of his secrets; it was just a matter of whether anyone could decipher them. But where were the clues?
"Did you find anything?" Ah Huang asked.
I shook my head. "I'm not an expert, but perhaps Lao Zhao will be able to see something when he arrives!"
Just then, a voice called from the doorway, "Who’s treating me to dinner? Who’s going to reimburse my travel expenses and labor?" It was Lao Zhao! His timing couldn't have been better!
