"Yes. Officer, you can create this opportunity for me," Lao Zhao said with a grin.
"Me?" Ah Huang replied, surprised.
"Yes, like this." Lao Zhao leaned closer to Ah Huang's ear and began to whisper. I couldn't hear what he was saying, and I felt a bit awkward about leaning in to listen. After all, if Lao Zhao didn't want to make it public, there must be some hidden reason. I could only see Ah Huang frowning slightly and nodding.
I was very curious about what kind of plan Lao Zhao had come up with. However, I didn't ask. I just watched as Ah Huang took out his phone and walked outside, seemingly to call someone.
When Ah Huang returned, he nodded at Old Zhao. Old Zhao immediately made a "K" gesture with his hand, and then the two of them surprisingly settled down in the office to drink tea. Lao Zhao even relaxed enough to read a newspaper.
Of course, I wouldn't ask them what they were up to; I patiently waited for things to unfold.
Less than half an hour later, someone outside the office asked, "Is Officer Huang here?" We turned our heads toward the sound and saw a tall young man standing at the door, sunlight streaming in from behind him, obscuring his features.
"Zhang Bo, right? Come in, please take a seat. There's a water dispenser over there; don't be shy," Ah Huang said politely.
Hearing Ah Huang's words, the young man named Zhang Bo walked in. I glanced up at him; he had a square face with sharp features and was quite handsome, though there was a hint of youthfulness in his brows that made him look somewhat like a student. Once inside, he quietly sat in a corner without saying much.
After welcoming Zhang Bo to sit down, Ah Huang also fell silent. The strange atmosphere of silence lingered until after a while when a voice called out, "Officer Huang, you wanted to see me?" I looked up to see Liu Qi entering the office in high-heeled suspenders.
Honestly, I wasn't surprised by Liu Qi's arrival; after all, Old Zhao needed to meet with her. Ah Huang must have gone out earlier to call Liu Qi and find a reason to bring her here. However, Liu Qi's first reaction upon entering the office left me astonished.
I was sitting directly facing the office door, so I noticed Liu Qi immediately as she entered. But she didn't seem particularly anxious or panicked; instead, she appeared somewhat distracted—like a student who had to enter an exam room but didn't care much about the final score.
To be honest, even at that moment, I still couldn't believe that Liu Qi could be connected to the three missing persons cases.
As Liu Qi walked into the office, she naturally scanned the room's occupants. True to form, her gaze didn't linger on me or Ah Huang for even a second; when she spotted Old Zhao sitting aside, she only showed a fleeting moment of surprise before it passed.
However, when Liu Qi's eyes landed on Zhang Bo in the corner, she suddenly froze and dropped her bag on the floor! She stood there in shock.
Just as she bent down to pick up her bag, Old Zhao abruptly stood up and quickly stepped over to her side. He whispered something in her ear that made her movements slow down. She no longer reached for her bag but instead straightened up slowly as her gaze began to drift.
Old Zhao continued speaking softly to her while Liu Qi's expression grew more dazed. She nodded at times and shook her head at others; meanwhile, Lao Zhao's demeanor became increasingly serious and tense.
"Isn't this too exaggerated? Could it be that Liu Qi has entered a state of Hypnosis just like that? I didn't dare to breathe, afraid of waking her up. I turned slightly to glance at Ah Huang and Zhang Bo; they were also staring in shock at Old Zhao.
After a while, Old Zhao wiped the sweat from his forehead, and only then did I notice that he was already drenched in sweat.
Finally, I saw Old Zhao whisper something again, and Liu Qi nodded, slowly squatting down to pick up the handbag that had fallen on the floor. As she bent down, the gap in her suspender dress clearly revealed a glimpse of her snow-white chest. It was truly breathtaking! I had never witnessed such a captivating scene before; my heart raced a few beats, and I quickly turned my head away, too embarrassed to look.
When I gathered my composure and turned back, Liu Qi had already turned and walked out of the office.
Indeed, beauty has its advantages, I sighed inwardly. No wonder she could attract these wealthy and handsome Buddies. Just as I was thinking this, I noticed that after watching Liu Qi leave, Zhang Bo stood up.
"How did it go, Captain Huang? Did I complete my mission?"
"Yes, you did. Thank you for coming," Ah Huang replied.
"Officer, no need to be polite. Helping you is also helping ourselves. If there's nothing else, I'll head back to class," Zhang Bo said before turning to leave.
"What exactly are you two hiding?" I couldn't help but ask Ah Huang once Zhang Bo exited the office.
"Zhang Bo is the twin brother of the second missing person, Zhang Yuan. He's currently pursuing his master's degree. I called him first and then Liu Qi; I asked them both to come to the office," Ah Huang explained slowly after Zhang Bo left.
"Ah!" I couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
"Old Zhao instructed me to do this," Ah Huang casually referred to Lao Zhao.
"Yes, it was me who told Captain Huang to have these two come in succession. Calling Zhang Bo was meant to provoke Liu Qi and see her initial reaction. Liu Qi is aware of Zhang Yuan's disappearance, but regardless of whether she is connected to the case or not, when she sees Zhang Bo for the first time, she will definitely be shocked; her emotions will fluctuate greatly. At that moment, while she's still reeling from the shock, we can use verbal suggestions for Hypnosis," Old Zhao said proudly.
"Were you just discussing this with Ah Huang?"
"Yes."
"Then how did you know about Zhang Bo's existence?"
"Didn't Captain Huang show us the missing person's information last time?" Old Zhao shrugged his shoulders and asked back.
I was momentarily speechless; it turned out I had been too careless. Who would have thought to investigate Liu Qi through the missing person's brother? Now that I thought about it, Old Zhao must have had an inkling back then and only brought it up now, perhaps with a hint of wanting to take credit. Experience does count for something!
"So how did you break the hypnosis?" I asked, still curious.
"Her consciousness was actually clear; I just gave a subtle command for her to go to the hospital and find Professor Qin. Once she meets Professor Qin, she'll forget about coming to the office. We just need to follow her and monitor her meeting with Professor Qin, and we'll naturally find out who gave her the hypnosis command. However, Captain Huang's call records are still available. I personally suggest you send her a message, like thanking her for any clues she might provide from the call. This way, she won't be suspicious. The traces of her visit will be completely erased, and even if someone hypnotizes her again, she won't remember this experience."
Truly meticulous.
"Impressive," Ah Huang said, his gaze toward Old Zhao shifting slightly.
"So what do we do now?" I asked.
Ah Huang also looked at Professor Qin.
"We split into two teams: one waits for news from those we sent out, while the other goes to the hospital to find Professor Qin," Ah Huang decided firmly.
"Will we make it in time?" I asked worriedly.
"We will," Old Zhao replied confidently. "First, today happens to be Professor Qin's outpatient day. Second, experts like Professor Qin usually have many appointments. Liu Qi going there now is just a last-minute decision without an appointment; she will definitely be waiting outside. At least she'll have to wait for one patient to finish before it's her turn, and psychological consultations are typically scheduled in one-hour or fifty-minute increments. So when we arrive, Liu Qi won't have gone in yet. I've calculated everything."
Old Zhao's confident demeanor instilled a sense of trust in me.
"Alright." Without further delay, we quickly made our way to the parking lot and got into Ah Huang's car, heading toward the hospital.
"Ah Huang, how do we approach Professor Qin?" I asked while in the vehicle.
Ah Huang pondered for a moment. "Let's approach him directly. Last time we conducted an external investigation; some rumors might have reached his ears by now. It's time for a direct approach."
"Oh." Managing the nuances of the case wasn't my responsibility; I felt like I had been reduced to a pawn in this situation, with Old Zhao proving to be much more useful—no, extremely useful.
As we spoke, we had already arrived at the hospital. After parking the car, we walked into the outpatient lobby. Passing by the expert signboard, we noticed that Professor Qin was holding a consultation today. Just as we were in the First Floor Lobby, Ah Huang's phone suddenly rang.
"Hello? What's up?"
"Hmm? Did you find something? Where?" Ah Huang's voice rose sharply.
"Is anyone there?" he asked urgently.
"No? Then what did you discover?" Seeing his expression, he seemed a bit disappointed. "What? Really? Okay, stay there and don't move. Wait for someone to come back, and remember not to act rashly; just keep an eye on it!"
Ah Huang turned around, his expression somewhat strange as he said to us, "We found where the dog is, and there's another discovery that you wouldn't expect."
"What discovery?" Lao Zhao and I asked in unison.
"In the yard where the dog was tied up, we found the owner's clothes—work clothes. The dog's owner is from this hospital!" Ah Huang stated emphatically.
Ah! We were taken aback. The atmosphere was tense.
(To be continued, more exciting developments tomorrow!)
