Shen Han seemed quite irritated. After thinking for a moment, I decided it was better not to go out just yet. I would wait until he left before stepping outside.
I wasn't sure what the other person had said to him, but Shen Han's voice gradually softened and became much calmer.
"Then please do your best to follow my instructions; there are indeed many skilled fighters."
I listened carefully and confirmed that there were no more sounds outside. I then pushed open the partition door and stepped out. It turned out Shen Han was having a tough time; no wonder he always looked so troubled. Yet, in such a state, he still thought about pursuing girls—what a peculiar character he was.
I walked out of the restroom and glanced inside the venue. After Soaring Dragon's stunning performance, Qin Sihu's match was next. With Soaring Dragon's impressive display, it seemed unlikely that Qin Sihu could attract any attention, no matter how hard he tried. I watched as he methodically used Twin Whips to disarm his dual-wielding opponent and successfully won the match, earning himself a chance to face Soaring Dragon tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow's matches were shaping up to be quite exciting. I would be up against Shen Han, while another popular contender, Zhu Wu, would face Soaring Dragon. It looked like tomorrow would be thrilling as well! With this thought in mind, I greeted Old Bi and invited him to the cafeteria for lunch. At this moment, he was stubbornly sitting with those two female competitors, having an early meal. The one named Qi (I didn't even know her last name) glanced over at us a few times.
I couldn't be bothered to coax her; Old Bi had a match in the afternoon. I wasn't there just to watch his fight, so I returned to my room for a rest after lunch.
In the afternoon, it was time for the losers' bracket matches. According to the schedule, there would be six winners from the first round of the losers' bracket, and after the second round of the winners' bracket concluded, there would be six losers—perfectly matched up for their respective bouts. Additionally, there would be matchups from the third round of the winners' bracket for those who lost. Old Bi was indeed lucky; he directly faced off against a tall beauty while another competitor had a bye.
The first match of the afternoon was Old Bi against Luo Luo. I didn't know her last name either, but her name suited her perfectly—she had great leg techniques and kicked down everything that flew through the air. For some reason, I suddenly had this nonsensical thought.
"Old Bi, in order for the beauty to notice you, you need to have some dignity!" I snapped back to reality and patted Old Bi on the shoulder, worried that he might throw in the towel. That would make for a dull match and bring shame upon our unit.
Old Bi rubbed his fists together and said, "I know; I won't hold back. I'll let her win only at the end to make her feel moved."
"Old Bi, don't get too emotionally invested!" I scoffed.
Old Bi grinned as he walked onto the stage and registered with Luo Luo at the referee's table. I saw him greet her actively; she merely huffed and turned away. Well then, Old Bi—such one-sided affection! Both competitors took their positions on opposite sides and faced each other properly. "Ding!" The match began!
Old Bi assumed a fighting stance while Luo Luo charged straight at him from a step away. She executed a swift kick with her left leg aimed directly at Old Bi's head. Old Bi brought his arms together and stepped back with his left leg while forcefully opening up his right side to block her kick. It seemed he underestimated her strength; I noticed Old Bi grimace slightly.
As soon as Luo Luo's kick was blocked, she quickly retracted it and launched another whip kick with her right leg aimed at Old Bi's left ribcage.
Old Bi attempted to block again with both arms, but this time it turned out to be a feint!
In mid-air, Luo Luo saw Old Bi retreating and suddenly pulled back her left leg, swiftly launching it out again. This time, she landed a kick squarely on Old Bi's right shoulder.
Old Bi reacted quickly; as the kick connected, he stepped back to dissipate the force.
He glanced at the referee, but the whistle remained silent. The match continued!
Seizing this opportunity, Luo Luo retracted her left foot and spun around for a roundhouse kick. With the added momentum, this strike was far more powerful than the last. Her right leg swept toward Old Bi's right side, and it seemed that taking the hit would be too much for him to bear; he would likely end up on the ground.
The exchanges were rapid and fierce, almost matching Soaring Dragon's speed. The power behind her strikes was impressive; it appeared that if Zhu Wu didn't possess absolute strength, it would be quite difficult to contain her.
Old Bi hesitated for a moment and took a step back. Little did he know that this retreat would cost him the initiative. Luo Luo unleashed a flurry of kicks—whipping legs and snapping strikes—constantly targeting Old Bi. The speed of her movements made it impossible for him to find an opening to counterattack; he could only dodge while occasionally taking hits.
As Old Bi found himself cornered against the edge of the mat, Luo Luo executed an overhead kick aimed at his head. He raised both hands to block it, but unexpectedly, Luo Luo leaped into the air, following up with a thrusting kick that struck Old Bi in the chest. He staggered back a step but abruptly halted when his body hit the edge of the mat.
"Hmph! Are you convinced yet?" Luo Luo advanced a step and swept her right leg low toward Old Bi's left leg.
Old Bi twisted his neck defiantly. "Not a chance!" He responded with a low sweeping kick of his own, resulting in a dull thud as their legs collided. Old Bi stumbled slightly, losing his balance, while Luo Luo retracted her right leg to support herself before launching into another spinning kick—this time with her left leg aimed at Old Bi!
"Get out of my way!"
Another attempt? Old Bi ducked just in time to evade it and suddenly surged forward! He aimed to take advantage of his opponent's unsteady stance on one leg and knock her down!
At last, Old Bi had seized control! I clenched my fist in excitement; what an opportunity!
However, as Luo Luo's kick missed its target, she quickly changed tactics and brought her leg down hard onto Old Bi's back with a resounding thud. "Ah!" he shouted in pain as he lunged forward toward her single standing leg.
What happened next was astonishing. Just as it seemed Old Bi was about to reach her, Luo Luo bent her supporting leg and suddenly pushed off the ground with force, propelling herself upward. In mid-air, she spun around just as Old Bi charged past her. She clamped her legs around his neck from behind.
With his center of gravity lost and someone now sitting on his back, Old Bi stumbled several times before collapsing to the ground. Luo Luo's thighs tightened around him, causing his face to flush red. The whistle blew! Old Bi had lost! Well then, he got what he wished for—a close encounter with those long legs.
I was about to call out to Old Bi when I noticed him struggling to pry Luo Luo's legs apart with all his might. Meanwhile, she wore a cold expression and asked him, "Are you convinced yet?"
Old Bi couldn't possibly admit defeat. "I won't accept this!" He pounded the ground with his hands, trying to get up, but his neck was firmly trapped, leaving him unable to move. Just then, the referee came over and separated the two.
"Hmph!" Luo Luo turned and left the arena. Old Bi slowly crawled out through the side netting. "Hey, just give it up already; you're embarrassing yourself!" I called out to him.
Old Bi was still panting. "Cough, cough, getting a few more touches in isn't so bad," he said, awkwardly rubbing his neck.
What a lecher!
At some point, Soaring Dragon had also been watching from the sidelines, hands behind his back and an expression of calmness on his face. As Old Bi exited, Soaring Dragon remarked lightly, "You were a bit slow to react; what a pity."
Old Bi paused for a moment, then walked past us with his head down.
I followed Old Bi out of the venue and spotted Old Ma smoking outside. Upon seeing us, he looked quite pleased. "Hey, Old Wang, you did well! The semifinals are tomorrow morning and the finals in the afternoon. You really made us proud! Let's celebrate tonight; dinner's on me!"
"Am I still going even if I lost?" Old Bi rubbed his neck.
"Of course! Everyone's going! Bring Jing along too!"
Before I could say anything else, Luo Luo and her companion walked out of the venue. As they passed us, Luo Luo stopped for a moment and looked at Old Bi with an expressionless face. "You're still pretty tough," she said before attempting to walk past.
Old Bi's eyes lit up at the beautiful girl speaking to him. "Hey there, how about dinner tonight?"
Luo Luo didn't even pause. "Hey, there's someone treating us; it's a big group. My brother is going too; he might be able to help your friend."
Upon hearing this, they both stopped and glanced back at us. "Room 05; call us," Luo Luo said before turning away with her companion.
"Hahaha!" Old Bi laughed heartily while I helplessly remarked, "Tonight I'll call Lulu out!"
"Hehe, she's off training!"
"You really have a thing for new faces!"
"I'm not, I just really admire her and want to be friends!"
...
That evening, at the restaurant across from the hotel, there were quite a few people in a private room: Old Ma, me, Old Bi, two beautiful women, Jing, and oh, there was also Shen Han. According to Old Ma, Shen Han was brought in last minute when Jing invited the two beauties.
At the beginning, everyone felt a bit awkward. There was an uncomfortable silence at the table as the dishes were served. It was Old Ma who broke the ice. He handed each person a bottle of beer, poured a glass, stood up, and said, "It's a pleasure to meet all of you. I'm just an outsider and I truly admire all of you experts. The fact that we can sit together is fate. I want to thank my two brothers for giving me face and helping me report back to the leadership. I also appreciate your support over these past few days. This first drink is for you all! I wish you all achieve your ideal results!"
Except for Jing, everyone else was military personnel. Jing was quite the tough woman herself. Hearing Old Ma speak like this, everyone felt there was no need to pretend anymore and raised their glasses.
"Come on, let's toast! One, two, three!" Old Ma suggested.
This was an unwritten rule in the military; everyone clinked their glasses together and shouted together, "One—two—three! Cheers!"
After shouting that out, everyone tilted their heads back and downed their beers in one go. Once finished, they wiped their mouths and sat back down. With that first drink to kick things off, the atmosphere lightened up.
(To be continued; tomorrow will be even more exciting!)
