A loud bang echoed as the white and black lights collided! For a moment, they remained locked in a stalemate, each beast returning to its original position, seemingly evenly matched.
I felt a bit more at ease; it appeared that the seemingly harmless Dot was quite formidable after all, while Wei Qiu's expression darkened.
I watched as he formed hand seals, shifting through several postures, clearly preparing to urge Tengshe into an attack.
All I could do was clench my fists, hoping that Dot could withstand the fierce Tengshe.
In an instant, Tengshe swung its Big Head and charged forward with a sudden burst of speed. Dot seemed to gather all its strength to meet the charge head-on, resulting in another loud bang! The two beasts were nearly equal in power, and they remained locked in combat!
At this moment, Dot no longer held back. Before Wei Qiu could initiate another attack, Dot kicked back and lunged at Tengshe. Tengshe immediately wrapped its body around Dot, and the two beasts—one black and one white—became entangled! Tengshe rolled and twisted, while Dot's white form flickered within Tengshe's dark body until it completely disappeared!
...
The alley was engulfed in darkness; I could see nothing. The surroundings were pitch black, and I could hear Wei Qiu's strange laughter echoing from across the way.
Just then, a flash of lightning illuminated an astonishing scene!
Tengshe was gently coiled around Dot, their heads brushing against each other in a display of intimacy. To my surprise, Dot casually patted Tengshe's head with its paw!
Both Wei Qiu and I were stunned! Especially Wei Qiu; this was far from what he had anticipated! He still held his hand seals but stared blankly at the scene before him, muttering to himself, "What is this? How is this possible?"
At that moment, an elderly voice rang out. "What’s impossible about it? Tengshe and the Snow Mountain Lion Beast have known each other for a long time; they were just playing after years apart. Hmph! You haven’t fully mastered the incantation to control Tengshe; of course you can’t command it to perform extraordinary attacks."
It was Old Zhou! I had no idea when he had stood up. He looked coldly at Wei Qiu, showing no signs of drunkenness. Suddenly, it dawned on me—Old Zhou hadn’t been drunk at all; he had merely wanted to draw out Wei Qiu!
Tengshe nudged Dot with its head as if to say goodbye to an old friend. Dot stood up and let out a few soft sounds. The space where Tengshe resided gradually blurred into a swirling distortion as Tengshe slowly disappeared into the dark void.
Watching Tengshe Disappear, Old Zhou walked into the Alley and faced Wei Qiu. "I've long suspected someone was behind all this. I just couldn't find you, so I had no choice but to use this child to draw you out. Ha! You fell for it! Now, with Tengshe asleep and the Snow Mountain Lion Beast around, you won't be able to summon it anytime soon."
Wei Qiu wore a gloomy expression. "What an old fool! I can't believe I fell for your trick! Without the Second Stage Control God Technique, I can't unleash Tengshe's full power. What a pity!"
Old Zhou chuckled lightly. "I didn't expect to encounter the Snow Mountain Lion Beast here either. It seems your luck has run out, Wei Qiu. Without Tengshe, are you just going to surrender?"
Wei Qiu scoffed. "Even without Tengshe, I might not lose to you!"
Old Zhou replied calmly, "Since you're so stubborn, let's end this, shall we?"
At this moment, it seemed there was nothing for me to do. The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. I realized I was the cicada, and Old Zhou, oh Old Zhou, you’ve truly kept me in the dark. Feeling somewhat displeased, I quietly stepped aside. Dandan raised its head and puffed out its chest as it approached me, bumping my leg as if seeking praise. I quickly bent down and patted its back. "Thanks! I'll treat you to a meal next time!"
Dandan's throat rumbled a few times before it glanced at me and shrank back considerably, slipping under the rolling shutter door as if casually heading home!
The rain began to pour heavily again, with lightning flashing across the sky. I silently watched Old Zhou and Wei Qiu in the rain. Wei Qiu lowered his head, appearing dejected. I was pondering how Wei Qiu, without Tengshe, could deal with Old Zhou. Suddenly, Wei Qiu made his move! A streak of black light shot towards Old Zhou, something unknown flying straight at him. Just as Old Zhou dodged to the side, the black light exploded with a soft bang, forming a fireball—not quite a fireball, more like a burning rat that suddenly turned in mid-air and lunged at Old Zhou!
Old Zhou's face changed drastically as he shouted, "Dark Red Fire Mouse! Where did you get that?!". He reached behind him and pulled out something unknown to block the attack from the Fire Mouse. At the same time, his left hand quickly formed a hand seal and struck down at the Fire Mouse. With a squeak, the mouse seemed to be hurt and twisted in mid-air before flying towards Wei Qiu. With a wave of his hand, Wei Qiu somehow managed to capture the Fire Mouse.
Holding a dark object resembling a ruler, Old Zhou slowly turned around menacingly towards Wei Qiu. "Dark Red Fire Mouse! There is only one in existence. Where did you get it?!"
Wei Qiu snorted. "Old man, you have quite an eye for treasures. This is something I took from killing a Night Watchman years ago—what was his name? Oh right, something like Zhao Zhenran. Can't remember too clearly; ah well, he resembled you—a meddler!"
Suddenly, Old Zhou began to tremble violently. He hissed through gritted teeth, "Zhao Zhenran! He was my eldest disciple! He had an extraordinary encounter in his youth and obtained the Dark Red Fire Mouse! You...you actually killed him! No wonder I've been unable to find him all these years!"
Surprised, Wei Qiu responded, "Oh? What a coincidence! Old man, your disciple wasn't much of a challenge; I killed him with one glance! Later on, when I searched his body, I found this little treasure—ha! It's an ambush weapon; just touch it and it ignites—unquenchable!"
With a sudden roar, Old Zhou pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket—I could see clearly that it was his crafted Paper Tiger!
Old Zhou quickly recited a few incantations and tossed the Paper Tiger forward. "Spirit possession! Rush!" The Paper Tiger floated gently ahead, and within seconds, it grew larger and larger until it suddenly transformed into a massive white tiger that landed on the ground.
It was indeed a living white tiger, kicking its legs and swishing its tail, roaring with its head held high. Although there was no sound, its presence was imposing. In the next moment, it charged toward Wei Qiu like a bolt of lightning, splashing through the puddles.
Wei Qiu had clearly encountered Old Zhou's illusionary tiger before; he understood its power and did not underestimate it. With a leap, he jumped onto a trash can by the alley and then sprang up to the top of the wall. At the same time, he waved his hand, and with a whoosh, the Fire Mouse was released again! A ball of fire rushed toward the Paper Tiger's head in the darkness.
Fire countered the Paper Tiger! It was evident that Wei Qiu had prepared for this!
As the Paper Tiger lunged forward to attack, the Fire Mouse struck with incredible speed, crashing into the Paper Tiger's head!
Once again, everyone was taken aback. The Paper Tiger seemed unharmed; it swiped its paw and knocked the Fire Mouse away. Wei Qiu was startled and was about to recall the Fire Mouse when the white tiger leaped up and swung a paw at Wei Qiu's head.
Wei Qiu bent down and jumped hard off the ground to evade this strike. However, he did not notice Old Zhou's iron ruler silently flying through the air, aimed at his left chest. With no way to gain leverage in mid-air, Wei Qiu could only awkwardly shift his body aside. There was a dull thud as it struck his right chest with tremendous force. Old Zhou's vengeful blow clearly had power behind it; Wei Qiu spat out a mouthful of blood and fell to the ground, rolling several meters away.
At that moment, the white tiger leaped down from the wall and pounced on Wei Qiu. Yet, Wei Qiu did not dodge; instead, he reached into his pocket.
Old Zhou rushed forward. "Trying to escape? Where do you think you're going?!"
But it was too late. Wei Qiu had dropped something on the ground that began to smoke upon contact with water, filling the alley with thick smoke in an instant.
"White! Chase!" Old Zhou stomped his feet in frustration!
I sighed. Honestly, I neither wanted Wei Qiu to be killed nor did I want him to escape. It was simple: if he died, I would have no way to explain things to the police (especially Huang; he was another person of Japanese descent), but if he got away, it would mean endless trouble for me.
I quietly watched Old Zhou, my feelings quite complicated.
"The Paper Tiger fears fire but not water; even Fire Mouse can't burn it! However, that doesn't mean White will be able to kill Wei Qiu." Old Zhou picked up the iron ruler and walked over, looking quite dejected. I knew this was due to learning that his prized disciple might be dead. I sighed again; I had originally planned to question Old Zhou about using me as bait, but now I found it difficult to bring up.
I sat down by the rolling shutter, feeling overwhelmed by everything that had happened that night. I needed to calm myself; after all, with Wei Qiu's fate uncertain, it was best not to rush around.
Old Zhou stood there for a moment before suddenly coming over and sitting next to me, drenched. He looked at Heavy Rain and asked, "You don't hate me, do you?"
I smiled lightly. "Hate you for what? You did save Xi. I'm just curious how you knew that Dandian was the Snow Mountain Lion Beast. If it weren't for Dandian, we probably wouldn't have made it out unscathed, right? Don't tell me it was just a gamble; that would be too much of a coincidence."
Old Zhou paused for a moment before replying, "It was more or less a gamble. To avoid attracting Wei Qiu's attention, I couldn't check on Dandian beforehand. However, from what I've heard, it aligns perfectly with the Snow Mountain Lion Beast. I believe only the Snow Mountain Lion Beast could keep such a large area of the hospital so clean. This creature originally belongs to Tibetan Vajrayana and is a guardian of sacred objects. With it around, Tengshe wouldn't be able to do anything. So I thought it was worth the risk!"
I opened my mouth in shock. "That's quite a gamble you're taking—it's my life at stake!"
Old Zhou chuckled softly. "Not taking risks is the biggest gamble of all! Besides, I'm putting my life on the line too; as long as I'm here, you might not be in danger."
He paused again and continued, "Later on, during the Dispute Between Exoteric and Esoteric Buddhism in Tibet, the Snow Mountain Lion Beast lost its trace. I suspect that the Snow Mountain Lion Beast ended up here to guard something, and that something is located near this hospital!"
I interrupted him, saying, "I'm not interested in that right now; I just want to know if Wei Qiu will come looking for trouble with me again!"
