"My Japanese name is Katohara Ichi, but I prefer you call me by my real name—Wei Qiu! I am Chinese!"
What the hell! It turns out he is a traitor! My gaze was instantly filled with disdain.
He paused, noticing my contemptuous look. "Hmph! It's not what you think." He casually clasped his hands behind his back and continued slowly, "I hate Japanese people; they are like flies and should have disappeared from this world long ago! Yet, I endured the disgust and stayed in Japan for ten years—ten years! Do you know why? I was searching for something incredibly powerful, and that something is in the hands of the Buzhang Family."
He looked at me again. "Japanese people are really stubborn. When you threaten them, they refuse to compromise, standing firm and making it impossible for me to succeed. Eventually, I decided to infiltrate their ranks."
He smiled smugly. "Of course, look at me now; I've succeeded. I've obtained what I wanted, but I'm still missing one crucial incantation."
"When I accidentally learned about the Buzhang Family's history, I discovered an opportunity: during World War II, they lost a War Blade in China. By coincidence, I happened to know where that knife was located, so I decided to help them retrieve what they consider a treasure—the very knife you shattered! Their trust in me deepened gradually, but that wasn't enough; I needed an opportunity to advance my plan."
I silently watched Wei Qiu. This guy truly had patience and determination; I wondered what his ultimate goal was.
"You've performed quite well. Initially, I intended to create some trouble for Buzhang and then help him out of it. This way, it would deepen his family's goodwill and trust towards me, making it easier to act when I returned to Japan. Who knew you would get involved? Ah, but you're quite clever; you've been on Buzhang's case so much that even I almost got caught! Haha, great! I've just adjusted my plan a bit—using your hand to deal with Buzhang is even better! Hahaha, your final confrontation with Buzhang really surprised me, but you were too merciful. You actually wanted to capture him alive; don't you know Japanese people never admit defeat? Hahaha! In the end, it was still me who had to step in to help you!"
Suddenly, it dawned on me. "So it was you! Buzhang clearly had the upper hand in the end; it was you who ambushed him with something that caused him to fall and roll down the stairs into a vegetative state! It was you all along! I thought it was Old Zhou!"
"Hahaha, that useless fool?! Look at him; he gets drunk after just a little alcohol! A Night Watchman? What Destroyer or Night Watchman—it's all garbage! Hehe, but this means I'm still your savior. So now, it's time for you to help me out too! It's time for your life to be returned to me!"
"Wei Qiu, aren't you afraid that Buzhang will wake up and expose you?!"
"Tsk tsk tsk! You’re smart yet foolish!" Wei Qiu clapped his hands. "The night Buzhang fell into my hands, his soul was already devoured by my Shikigami. Hahaha! The Buzhang Family now has nothing but a soulless shell! Of course, this debt will fall on your head as well. Hahaha! Ah, it's good; Buzhang's half-dead state will only fuel their family's hatred towards you. If I kill you now and avenge Buzhang, I'll gain even more of their trust. Plus, with the Buzhang Family losing their heir... Hahaha! The things I want will have no choice but to be handed over to me!"
Wei Qiu laughed maniacally while my heart sank further. So Buzhang had been turned into a Soul Devourer—it truly was a case of the mantis stalking the cicada while the yellow bird lay in wait! What a scheming person!
Then another thought struck me: Wei Qiu also had Shikigami? Right, after so many years in Japan, he must have learned quite a bit from there.
Unable to hold back any longer, I asked again, "Wei Qiu, how did you kill Zhao Xinran and the demon? Was it Shikigami?"
"Hehehe, you'll find out soon enough. Well then! Your honor lies in witnessing this thing; your misfortune is also in seeing this thing!" Wei Qiu took a step back, raised his hands again in a ball-like gesture, and began murmuring something in Japanese.
I instinctively took a few steps back, unsure of what was about to happen next.
As Wei Qiu murmured, I felt the space between us slowly twisting, like looking over a pot of boiling water where the entire area began to warp and collapse, appearing surreal.
I widened my eyes in shock as I saw a massive creature forming in the collapsing space, something that resembled a python!
Gradually, my mouth dropped open wider in disbelief. No, this wasn't a python! It was something far more terrifying—a black entity with a gigantic body coalescing in the air. Its head resembled that of a python but had horns and blood-red eyes devoid of any emotion. Its body was covered in thick, armor-like scales, swirling ominously in the air...
"Hahaha, do you know what this is? It's a Tengshe! A divine beast that has wandered into Japan!" Wei Qiu's laughter seemed distant, and I felt dazed. Was I dreaming? This couldn't be real!
In an instant, the monster fully formed, coiling tightly in front of me, occupying the already narrow alley completely. Its upper body stood nearly twice my height! It lowered its head, its pair of blood-red eyes fixated on me!
"Want to know how those girls died? Let me tell you—they were strangled by the Tengshe! Hahaha, do you want to try it yourself?"
What the hell! I knew the constricting power of snakes was terrifying; if it got hold of me, my bones would surely shatter. I instinctively took a few steps back. I would rather face Wei Qiu with a knife than confront this creature—especially since I was terrified of snakes!
At this moment, I couldn't care about maintaining my composure anymore. I shouted at the top of my lungs, "Old Zhou, damn it, wake up!"
Wei Qiu smugly replied, "It won't help if you call him. Even if he wakes up, he won't be able to stand against me! In the face of Tengshe's absolute power, nothing can resist! It seems it wants to swallow you whole this time!"
The Tengshe before me twisted its upper body and extended its head forward, suddenly opening its mouth wide. I could clearly see its curved, dagger-like fangs! It was about to attack!
I lunged at Old Zhou, shaking him desperately. "Old Zhou, wake up! Damn it, we're going to die!"
There was no response. Despair began to set in. How could such a creature exist in this world? As if to answer my confusion, a phrase suddenly echoed in my mind: You never know until you look; the world is truly marvelous!
The Tengshe abruptly retracted its upper body and opened its mouth to the fullest extent as if preparing to swallow me whole!
Oh shit!
Before I could close my eyes in despair, a flash of white light burst forth from the nearby rolling shutter door and stood right in front of me!
What is this? I rubbed my eyes—Dots?! What the hell! It really is Dots!!
At that moment, Dots looked completely different from its usual lazy demeanor. It was faintly glowing with a layer of white light enveloping its entire body; Dots seemed taller too—previously reaching just above my thigh now stood at my waist. Though I couldn't see its front clearly, from behind it appeared that Dots' head had grown larger—not that its head had increased in size but rather that its fur was standing upright like a lion's mane.
I looked at it in shock, then glanced at the rolling shutter door. Indeed, it had come out from a movable panel at the bottom of the door. Yingluo had specially opened an entrance for it to come and save me!
The sudden appearance of the creature startled both Tengshe and Wei Qiu. Wei Qiu exclaimed, "What is that?" while Tengshe immediately shifted its attention to the creature, lowering its head and glaring at it, hissing as it flicked its tongue in warning.
The creature crouched slightly, tilting its head up towards Tengshe, and suddenly let out a roar that echoed like thunder! Just then, a bolt of lightning struck nearby, but it couldn't drown out the roar; the momentum was overwhelming. Tengshe instinctively recoiled slightly, showing signs of fear.
With the white light emanating from the creature, I noticed Wei Qiu's face had turned pale (perhaps due to the reflection). He muttered under his breath, "Snow Mountain Lion Hound, impossible! It can't be here!"
I was equally stunned. So here we were, one person and one beast facing off. Honestly, I wanted to turn and run; this was not a situation I could handle. But first, Old Zhou was still here, and second, I felt too embarrassed to leave Dian Dian behind. So I stood there in a daze.
Wei Qiu clearly hadn't expected this awkward situation either; he found himself in a dilemma. After a long pause, he seemed to make up his mind and said fiercely, "Tengshe, go! Eliminate them!"
In an instant, Tengshe coiled its upper body into an S-shape and with a powerful spring launched itself towards Dian Dian!
At that moment, Dian Dian also pressed down with all four limbs, tensing its body before suddenly leaping up. The two monsters collided mid-air with a resounding crash!
(To be continued; tomorrow will be even more exciting!)
