This time, I went to the office to receive praise: the director said that this mission was completed quite well. Everyone was obedient and worked hard, and the television station was relatively satisfied. My organization was also commendable; they did not misjudge me and are working to convert my temporary position into a permanent one soon. 0

I hadn’t really thought about whether I would be made permanent. My greatest hope was simply to avoid making mistakes! Indeed, with so many people involved, it was already quite good that nothing went wrong. However, I kept my own experiences hidden and did not report them; it was better to avoid unnecessary trouble. 0

Next Monday would be the Training Commencement. Fortunately, I had the weekend free. I planned to take advantage of Saturday to visit Xi at the hospital. According to Old Zhou's method, if a demon's soul is devoured, there is no way to save it. I just didn’t know how Xi was doing or if the Shikigami on the cloth had succeeded. 0

If possible, I wanted to invite Old Zhou to the hospital to check on Xi. Having been a Night Watchman for so many years, he should have seen a lot and might know how to wake Xi up. To be honest, Xi is both beautiful and adorable; it’s such a pity for her soul to be lost unjustly. 0

Early Saturday morning, I took a leave of absence, changed into casual clothes, and took a taxi straight to the hospital. When the car stopped at the entrance, I got out and paid the fare. Just as I was about to enter, I suddenly realized that it would look rather awkward to go in empty-handed. So, I decided to buy a fruit basket to bring along. 0

Standing at the hospital entrance, I looked around but found that there were no fruit shops nearby! I had no choice but to walk further along the hospital in hopes of finding one. 0

Fortunately, my wish was granted. After walking a few dozen meters, I spotted what seemed like a fruit shop in an alleyway right next to the hospital! I quickly quickened my pace and turned right into it. 0

The alley was narrow and long; one side was bordered by the hospital's wall while the other side had residential buildings. No cars could fit through here; it could barely accommodate two or three people walking side by side. The fruit shop was located in the middle of the alley; I really wondered how the owner expected to make any profit here. 0

Just as I reached beside the fruit shop, suddenly a white object burst out from inside and lunged at me. "What the hell!" I exclaimed in shock! Caught off guard, I instinctively stepped back several paces until my back hit the wall beside me, narrowly avoiding this encounter. Then I heard a crisp voice call out, “Dian Dian!” 0

The large white creature came to a halt right in front of me. 0

Once I regained my composure and took a closer look, I couldn’t help but exclaim, “What kind of animal is this?” It resembled an animal whose name eluded me; it looked somewhat like a dog because it reminded me of an ancient shepherd dog from abroad—completely white with thick fur—standing before me with its shoulder already reaching my thigh! Its upper face was obscured by its thick fur, leaving only its mouth visible as it panted with its tongue hanging out. 0

Yet, I wasn’t sure if it was actually a dog. Having owned dogs before, I knew that generally dogs don’t grow this large; that was one reason. Secondly, this creature had an odd head shape—not like a dog’s protruding snout but rather round-headed with a broad mouth that resembled a bear’s head; thirdly, it had a short tail at its rear that was much shorter than a dog’s tail. 0

Looking at those blade-like teeth in its mouth made me uneasy; if it bit me even once, even with the hospital nearby, there would be no need for further visits. 0

At that moment, I heard the voice call out again: “Dian Dian, be good! Don’t scare people!” 0

Strangely enough, upon hearing this command from the voice, this peculiar creature let out a soft whine as if acknowledging it and turned around to run back into the fruit shop. 0

I was still shaken when a girl came out of the store. She looked to be about ten years old, with a ponytail and a heart-shaped face, smiling brightly at me. "Don't be afraid! Didi won't bite; he just wants to play with you." 0

I forced a smile. "Ha, I'm not scared. It's just that you startled me a bit." 0

The girl tilted her head and squinted her eyes mischievously as she laughed. "You're lying! A lot of people are scared of Didi the first time they see him!" 0

Now that I had calmed down, I slowly walked into the store while saying, "Why would I lie to a kid? I've seen much bigger monsters than him!" 0

At that moment, the creature named Didi stood up from where he had been lying on the ground and let out a low growl, as if displeased with being called a monster. 0

The girl looked at me seriously. "He's not a monster; he's a dog. His name is Didi." 0

"Oh, okay, dog, Didi," I replied absentmindedly while surveying the fruit store. It was clear that this shop was run out of someone's apartment in a residential building; they had opened up the side facing the alley and installed a roll-up door to create a storefront. 0

The space wasn't large—only about ten square meters—but it was reasonably well-designed. The fruits were neatly arranged, clearly categorized, and there was quite a variety. 0

I glanced around and casually asked, "Is your boss around?" 0

"My grandpa is out right now; I'm the boss!" The girl said earnestly. "What fruits do you want?" 0

I couldn't help but chuckle at her serious demeanor. "Oh, so you're the boss!" 0

She pouted slightly and replied, "My name is Yingluo!" 0

"Oh, Yingluo," I echoed back. "I'm here to see a patient; could you prepare a fruit basket for me?" 0

"Sure!" Yingluo confidently walked over to the display of fruits and began picking them out while I idly watched the dog named Didi. 0

It was strange; even though his fur covered his eyes, I felt like he could see everything. I stared at him for a while, but he turned his head to watch Yingluo instead. 0

I walked a couple of steps in the store, picked up an apple, and just as I was about to smell it, Dandan stood up and walked over to me, looking up with wide eyes. I couldn't help but laugh at its antics. "What do you mean? Are you afraid I'm going to steal the apple?" Dandan didn't respond but sat down beside me, still gazing at me. 0

At that moment, Yingluo called out, "Dandan, bring me a basket." Dandan dashed into the store and returned with a medium-sized basket in its mouth, trotting over to Yingluo. 0

"Good boy, Dandan." Yingluo patted its head and began placing the selected fruits into the basket, wrapping them in plastic wrap and tying them with decorative ribbons. 0

"All done! That'll be 188 yuan!" 0

"Wow, that's so expensive! Can you lower it a bit?" 0

"Okay, how about 180 yuan?" 0

"Make it even less, Girl!" I teased her, curious to see how well she could negotiate. To my surprise, before Yingluo could respond, the strange dog beside us let out a low growl twice, as if expressing its discontent. "Hey, am I buying you bones with this money?" I laughed and scolded. 0

After paying, I grabbed the fruit basket and headed toward the hospital. Before long, I arrived at the Emergency Room. Based on my memory, I walked to the door of the ward from last time and peeked inside. "Huh? Where is everyone?" It was completely empty! 0

Had she been discharged? No way! How could her family let her leave in that condition?! While I was still in shock, two nurses walked by. "Oh, it's so sad; I heard her family wants to give up on treatment." "Yeah, it's thousands of yuan every time; who can afford that?" 0

I was taken aback. How could this happen?! I quickly grabbed one of the nurses. "Excuse me, where is this patient now?" 0

The nurse looked at me with annoyance. "Who are you? What is your relationship with her?" 0

"I'm... I'm her friend!" 0

"Seventh Floor Rehabilitation Department; you can ask there!" 0

I hurriedly thanked her and ran off with the fruit basket. There were many people waiting by the elevator. I glanced at the elevator display; it was still going up. No way could I wait; I had to convince the Xia family not to give up on treatment just yet—there might still be hope! Without hesitation, I took the stairs two at a time, racing up to the Rehabilitation Department. Ignoring the curious glances from passersby, I caught my breath for a moment before heading straight for the Nurse Station. "Nurse! Where is that comatose female patient?" 0

The on-duty nurse looked at me, panting heavily, and asked, "Which unconscious female patient?" 0

"Which one? There are a few," I replied, equally confused. 0

"Yes, one is in bed 1 and another in bed 8! Who are you looking for?" 0

Ah?! Suddenly, it dawned on me. The last time I heard, Yao had also been brought to this hospital. They must both be here! 0

I wondered which patient the nurse was about to give up on. I asked, "Nurse, I'm looking for a female patient named Xi. I'm her friend!" 0

"Xi? Oh, there's a Xi in bed 8." 0

"Great, thank you!" I quickly grabbed the fruit basket and hurried towards the ward area. 0

The wards were arranged on either side of the hallway. After just a few rooms, I spotted the number 8 on the left side a few steps ahead. It was a single room; this must be it. 0

"Uncle and Auntie, I'm leaving now! I'll try to fly back from London to see Xi as often as I can," said a tall boy with glasses who stepped out of Xi's room and turned back to say. 0
