We split up to call out the warriors on the Roster, each of us gathering on either side of the Midfield Line for a temporary tactical briefing. At this point, there wasn't much left to do; aside from individual abilities, it all depended on our usual chemistry and teamwork.
Everyone formed a circle, and I spoke softly to them, "We've already paid our respects; all that's left is one last push! With a thousand eyes watching us, can we rise to the occasion? Don't think about anything else—let's give it our all! I believe in you! In the end, I just want to say: fighting alongside you is my greatest honor!"
The passion ignited instantly. Garfield slammed his right fist into his left palm and shouted, "Let's go!" Tang jumped around, yelling, "Wet him! I want to wet him!" Xuanhua shouted loudly, "We can do this! Believe in us!"
He Baisha remained quiet, which puzzled me. I patted his shoulder, and he looked up at me, tears in his eyes as he said, "Turtle Son! Squad Leader! I can take the hits and not go down!" Damn it...
I extended my right hand, fist raised high in the air. "We will definitely be Ace!" The other four raised their fists in unison and shouted together, "Ace! Ace! Hoo!"
Leading everyone to the Midfield Line, Gao Ge and his team were already lined up. The two teams stood about three meters apart. Gao Ge was positioned farthest left facing us, and as I looked at the five of them, I noticed that aside from one who was about my height, the others were all over six feet tall. On our side, it was quite the opposite; aside from Xuanhua who was nearly six foot three, the other four were about my height.
As we sized each other up, two strategists had already run to either side to find their observation points. "Are you all ready?" one strategist called out loudly.
"Ready!" their side shouted in unison as they assumed a horse stance and struck a martial arts pose that looked impressive and powerful. To my surprise, Gao Ge took a Judo stance. Yes, Judo—I had seen it done like this in movies.
Seeing my astonishment, Gao Ge wore that confident smile I had seen before and whispered to me, "You still don't know I'm a Judo black belt?"
Who are you trying to fool? I pursed my lips and shouted, "Combat—prepare!"
After shouting that, I quickly turned my body to face Gao Ge with my left side exposed. My right foot stepped back slightly to the right while bending my knees slightly. I raised my fists quickly—left fist half-extended and right fist guarding my jaw—keeping my eyes locked on Gao Ge.
"Armed Police Combat ready position!" Gao Ge couldn't help but whisper.
"—1, whistle!" The referee blew the whistle!
It was one-on-one combat! Everyone lunged at their opponents while I stayed put because I wanted to see what Gao Ge was capable of. My agility was an advantage; I planned to wait until he charged at me before engaging him closely to see if he really knew Judo. After all, tall people often struggled in close quarters; if he was just trying to intimidate me into keeping my distance for a ranged fight, then I'd be at a disadvantage.
Gao Ge moved—but to my shock, he sidestepped instead of coming straight at me! He moved toward his teammate on the right instead. Following his movement with my eyes, I realized his target was Tang on my left!
Tang had already engaged with his opponent and hadn’t noticed Gao Ge sneaking up behind him. I shouted out a warning for Tang! But it was too late; Gao Ge grabbed Tang by the collar from behind and yanked him hard. Tang lost his balance and fell backward unexpectedly. In an instant, Gao Ge used his other hand to lift Tang's waist and flipped him over; Tang spun through the air before landing face-first on the grass with a thud! He struggled for a moment but didn’t get back up. "Out! Leave the field!" came the referee's voice!
"Liu, you guys go four against one; I've got this," Gao Ge said as he fixed his gaze on me. It seemed he had been hiding his strength all along—how many more tricks did Gao Ge have up his sleeve? In that moment, I felt a twinge of insecurity. When people lose control over known situations, they often become uncertain of themselves.
In a narrow confrontation, the brave emerge victorious! I had to go all out! One less opponent now! I couldn't afford to be passive any longer! I bent down and lunged at Gao Ge. Gao Ge was tall, with long limbs, making his movements powerful and difficult for me to counter. However, by keeping my body low and close to him, he found it hard to attack me. I needed to engage in close combat; regardless of his Judo skills, I had to take him down quickly!
With that thought in mind, I raised my right fist, extending my middle finger to form a point, and struck at his left rib!
Gao Ge had no choice but to lean to the left to evade my punch. Before he could retaliate, I followed up with a left hook aimed at his chin!
I saw him cross his arms to block my left punch, so I immediately delivered a right kick toward his left knee.
Gao Ge stumbled back several steps, narrowly avoiding my side kick. I noticed a hint of panic in his eyes; clearly, he hadn't expected me to fight so fiercely. It seemed he had underestimated my strength, which made me feel a bit proud.
At that moment, instead of launching an attack, Gao Ge suddenly shouted, "I'll hold Wang Wei; you all quickly take down the others."
My heart sank. I turned my head to glance at my comrades on the left. Before I could see anything clearly, my right eye caught a sudden darkness—Gao Ge was launching a sneak attack! I didn't have time to turn around; I quickly lowered my head and shifted my weight forward, charging with my right shoulder into him.
I made solid contact! Using the momentum, I aimed to wrap my arms around Gao Ge's waist and throw him backward, hoping to bring him down. His weakness was that he was too thin; if he were any bulkier, I wouldn't have been able to tackle him at all. With my head down, I saw Gao Ge stepping back with his left foot in an attempt to brace himself against my charge. At the same time, I felt his left hand pressing down on my right shoulder while his right hand reached for my belt—he was trying to throw me!
I had to take him down first! I shouted in my mind! Just then, I noticed that Gao Ge's left foot was firmly planted on the ground as he lifted his right foot back to cushion himself. Without hesitation, I stepped on his right foot and pressed down hard.
Then I quickly grabbed Gao Ge's collar and yanked it downward with all my strength. My entire body fell backward, causing Gao Ge to lose his balance and tumble down with me.
In just a second, my back slammed hard against the ground, jolting me as if all my organs had shifted. There was no time to feel pain; I bent my legs and pushed upward with all my might. Gao Ge seemed caught off guard and was pushed aside by the force of my kick. I immediately rolled over beside him and tightly wrapped both hands around his neck. He tried pulling my hair and ears with his hands, but I held on firmly.
Before long, Gao Ge's breathing became rapid. A voice from a nearby strategist declared, "Gao Ge is defeated; leave the arena!"
I immediately released the gasping Gao Ge and stood up to survey the battlefield. At that moment, He Baisha had already been declared out! Leisurely standing on the sidelines were Garfield and Xuanhua, who were struggling back-to-back against their opponents. Without hesitation, I sprinted toward the fray.
Using speed and momentum, I tackled the short warrior from behind. Seeing me launch an attack from behind, Xuanhua and Garfield instinctively separated just as the short warrior fell between us.
Garfield quickly pinned the warrior's head down while Xuanhua wasted no time delivering a punch straight to his face. Meanwhile, three opponents rushed in for support; they clearly intended to concentrate their efforts on taking one of us down while dragging Garfield away. In that instant when Garfield was pulled back, he kicked the short warrior hard in the head before being dragged away for a beating.
"Xuanhua, take this one down first!" I shouted from behind as I pressed down on the short warrior. Xuanhua paused for a moment but quickly reacted and continued throwing punches.
In less than three strikes, the short warrior cried out, "I give up! I give up!"
The referee came over and shouted, "Forfeit and leave the arena!"
Xuanhua and I quickly stood up and ran towards Garfield.
Garfield was already on the ground, with one person pinned beneath him, choking him from behind. He was using his elbow to strike that person while simultaneously dealing with the other two attackers with his feet.
Xuanhua and I both lunged at a sturdy tall guy. Xuanhua shouted as he engaged him head-on, both of them exchanging blows without any defense, landing punches on each other relentlessly. I circled around to the back and delivered a powerful kick to his knee. The taller he was, the less stable his center of gravity became. Sure enough, after taking a hard hit, he staggered slightly, allowing Xuanhua to seize his left arm. Seizing the opportunity, I swept my leg again, causing him to lose his balance and tumble forward onto the ground. Xuanhua immediately mounted him, resulting in him being declared out.
As Xuanhua and I charged at the last two opponents, we found that Garfield was barely holding on. One of his hands was twisted behind his back while another warrior held down his other hand. The referee was just about to call out "Out!"
I exchanged a glance with Xuanhua, and we simultaneously lunged towards the remaining opponent who appeared to be the strongest. I could see the confusion on their faces; they never expected that we wouldn’t engage them in a fair fight. We didn’t have time for any martial arts; we immediately entered into a grappling struggle, focusing on overwhelming them quickly. I knew that if we could take down this one last opponent together, victory would be ours!
With a loud thud, I suddenly felt as if I had been struck by a hammer from behind; I realized I had taken a kick. But at that moment, I couldn’t afford to be held back; otherwise, the outcome would be uncertain. Using the momentum from that kick, I dove towards my opponent's feet. Xuanhua also threw a punch aimed at his head. The opponent hurriedly tried to retreat, but I wouldn’t let him escape. As I landed on the ground, I wrapped my arms around his legs and pulled hard towards me. The opponent lost his balance and fell backward. Xuanhua was quick to react; he grabbed hold of the opponent's right hand and swiftly twisted it while pushing down on his left arm, causing his right shoulder to crash against the ground with a thud as Xuanhua forced his left hand behind his back.
"Out! Leave the arena!" the referee shouted.
