Erza herself was surprised, but only to a degree. For her, this revelation wasn’t something to be troubled by. The person before her was her mother, yet also an enemy of the Guild. Her mother had given her life, while the Guild had given her family.
"I acknowledge you as my mother, but if you intend to harm my Guild, I won’t hesitate to fight back."
That was Erza's response. The past had never troubled her; now that she stood here, she could only affirm that she had overcome the suffering of her past. Thus, the past would remain just that—past.
Erin felt a sense of relief and comfort in Erza's words.
"Very well, then I won’t hold back when the time comes."
The matter between Erza and Erin seemed to have reached a conclusion. However, there was still another person who had become quite lost since learning everything—Gray. He had been tasked by his father with killing End, the evil ice mage.
"Newton, is it really that simple? Can the past truly be left behind?"
The demon had destroyed Gray's hometown, obliterated everything he held dear—his father, his mentor—both perished at the hands of the demon. The dying wish of his father and the burden of his comrades weighed heavily on Gray.
"So do you think Natsu is End, or a Dragon Slayer? Or is he just Natsu?"
These three names represented three identities and three powers: the demon known as End, the Dragon Slayer, and Natsu as a person.
"Natsu has always believed he is a Fairy Tail Mage."
Newton had only said these few words to Gray. Unlike Erza, Gray had been haunted by his memories for far too long, and it seemed that every so often someone would emerge to pick at his scars. Healing was something he could only achieve on his own. Watching Zhubian approach, Newton wondered if perhaps love could provide some nourishment for healing.
The connection between Fairy Tail and the Albarez Empire ran deeper than he had anticipated. Lucy, who had become somewhat insignificant in recent times, was unexpectedly linked to Brantish from the Albarez Empire. Lucy's mother was a Celestial Spirit Mage who possessed three Zodiac keys; she had entrusted all three keys to her servant, one of whom was Brantish's mother. Among them were the severely injured members of One Night and others from Azure Wind Antelope. They held a neutral stance towards joining forces with the Albarez Empire—neither opposing nor supporting it.
Here, Newton played a clever game; the purpose of their alliance was to confront Acnologia. This world-destroying Demon Dragon was something everyone feared; they all knew they couldn't face it alone. The only option was to unite. Newton understood that once Acnologia was dealt with, they could pursue revenge as they saw fit. The sole requirement was that no one could hold back during the battle against Acnologia; only then could this alliance truly take shape.
