In the world of Fairy Tail, the conditions set by Oghast were quite simple; there was only one requirement. However, this requirement did not concern Jiang but was directed at Qishi instead.
"Sit."
Newton looked at Oghast, the man known for mastering thousands of spells, who at that moment appeared to be just an ordinary old man.
"What do you know about events from hundreds of years ago?"
Oghast opened with this question, and Newton had expected him to directly state his demands.
"Well, I have some knowledge based on what can be found through dragon clans and literature. I'm curious why you ask."
"I was raised by Jelf. To me, he is like a father. You in Fairy Tail value familial bonds, right? So you should understand my relationship with Jelf, and I do not wish for him to die."
Newton initially thought Oghast would make some sort of demand, but it turned out he simply wanted to ensure Jelf's survival. Although Newton was not particularly powerful, he sometimes hoped to witness something beautiful. From the very beginning, he had intended to save both Mavis and Jelf.
"I can agree to that. It was already my intention. To fight against Acnologia, this is a necessity, so..."
Newton sighed. Honestly, if he could, he would have liked to overlook this condition entirely.
"You can propose another..."
"No..."
Oghast regarded Newton with appreciation. He had been prepared to waste a condition, but seeing how considerate Newton was made him feel somewhat embarrassed about it.
"Well, let's leave it at that. What interests me more is that you actually brought this up yourself. I originally thought you were quite the despicable fellow."
Newton swallowed hard, realizing that he hadn't really done anything good for the Albarez Empire. Aside from the Holy Twelve Shields and domestic issues, the constant confrontations since the other party's arrival made it clear that even if they were to kill him, Newton wouldn't have much to say.
"I'm not that bad. It's just that our positions were different at the time. If possible, I would consider myself a good person."
This was an awkward conversation like no other; it was even more uncomfortable than small talk. Calling himself a good person and handing out a good person card was absurd. Gradually, Newton and Oghast began to engage in a lively discussion, covering everything from culture to geography. Oghast truly lived up to his reputation as the top figure of the Albarez Empire, second only to Jelf, claiming mastery over thousands of spells. He even dabbled in Alchemy and could draw parallels with other forms of magic, providing Newton with considerable inspiration. As for Oghast's view of Newton, it remained unchanged; he still saw him as a despicable schemer. However, he might have added "top-tier Alchemist or Mage" to his thoughts. Those seemingly mad ideas intrigued Oghast, who generously began discussing them with Newton.
On the other side, although they had settled on a cooperative idea, many from the Albarez Empire had not fully joined them due to their previous conflicts; a significant portion remained at their base.
"What do you want with Wendy?"
Erza glared warily at the figure before her—Eileen—while her fellow Dragon Slayer Mages stood alert behind her. Eileen's expression was complex; her focus was not on Wendy but rather on Erza.
"Hah, do you really think you lot can stop me?"
"I won't let my partner fall into your hands!"
Erza had donned her strongest Fairy Armor and had watched Eileen's battle footage. Facing such a terrifying opponent, even if she might lose, she couldn't allow her companions to be harmed.
"Eileen, haven't we already reached an Alliance agreement? What do you mean by this now?"
Miraj remained calm and collected. She sensed that they were still lacking in strength to contend with Eileen and hoped they could avoid conflict altogether.
"By the way, I heard you two are Newton's lovers?"
Eileen suddenly posed a question that left everyone puzzled. Both Erza and Miraj blinked in surprise and could only nod awkwardly in response.
"Yes... that's right..."
"Mm, I understand..."
Eileen nodded, seemingly unfazed by the group of people who were on the verge of exploding with tension and confusion. She simply turned and walked away. At that moment, Newton had just finished a conversation with Oghast and stepped out of the conference room, only to collide with Eileen as she approached.
"Eileen, I didn't know..."
Before Newton could finish his sentence, a simple burst of magical energy shot toward him. It was fast but not particularly lethal; however, Newton had no intention of being hit. He sidestepped to avoid it.
"What do you mean?"
Newton looked over with considerable displeasure. The person before him was responsible for the casualties among his Emerald Dragon team, and he hadn't sought her out for trouble yet she had the audacity to attack him? Although there was no malice behind it, being caught off guard like this certainly didn’t feel good.
Augustus stepped out right behind Newton and looked at Eileen with some confusion before furrowing his brow.
"Eileen..."
"Augustus, this has nothing to do with you."
Eileen shot back without any courtesy, completely disregarding Augustus's position as her superior.
"Don't worry, it's just a little lesson for you. I won't kill you."
"Hah, do you think too highly of yourself? Teaching me a lesson?"
Eileen's tone was condescending, as if she were scolding a child, which greatly irritated Newton. Although he knew she was strong, what did she mean by that? He certainly didn’t need her to teach him anything.
"Yes, I need to teach you a lesson."
Eileen was strong; her powerful magic could be unleashed in the blink of an eye. However, Newton's Alchemy was even more versatile. In terms of a fair fight... well, if we exclude certain tactics, Newton really couldn't match Eileen.
Just as the two were about to clash, Ginger approached.
"Sir, I’m sorry to interrupt, but I have something to tell you."
Ginger looked somewhat helpless.
"If our tests are correct, Sister Eileen should be Erza's mother. Even if that's not the case, they must at least be related..."
Not only was Newton taken aback, but Augustus was also surprised by this revelation.
"Mother-in-law?"
"Can I teach you a lesson now?"
