Victory did not merely exert a certain influence over the Albarez Empire; it also had a significant impact on the Fiore Kingdom. Although conflicts often arose within the Fiore Kingdom, such as battles between Mage Guilds or the eradication of Dark Guilds, these were not true wars. The people of Fiore had not experienced war for far too long, and this recent victory seemed to make them forget the horrors of battle, leading them to believe that as long as there was a Mage Guild, nothing could go wrong.
Some individuals even disregarded the teachings that warned against entering battle zones after a war had begun, choosing instead to remain in shelters until the fighting ceased. However, due to their recent victory, some had begun to venture out. While others remained cautious, Newton understood that the enemy's primary target would be Fairy Tail and the battlefield chosen by Mavis. Yet, in these few dangerous areas, people were already wandering about and even starting to trade and resume normal lives.
Reality soon taught these individuals a harsh lesson. War was fundamentally different from those smaller-scale skirmishes; it was an entity capable of easily taking lives, especially in large-scale conflicts.
The Albarez Empire was not devoid of strategic talent; however, much of their strength relied on the power of the Holy Twelve Shields. They could simply crush their opponents with sheer force. Yet even among the Holy Twelve Shields, there were many highly intelligent individuals. The Empire's dual pillars were known as such not only because of their strength but also due to their strategic acumen. In the early days of the Empire's establishment, while they did resolve many issues through brute force, it was these two who provided the ideas. When Jelf was absent, Oghast managed the Empire's affairs. However, as they gained more subordinates who became increasingly obsessed with dark magic, their oversight diminished. This did not mean that their capabilities should be underestimated. After analyzing their situation, Erin immediately ordered all soldiers to send their equipment to her location so she could replace its original abilities with her own supplementary magic. Meanwhile, Oghast swiftly gathered everyone and used information from God's Selene to locate an open area where he utilized Agil's sand magic to establish a city within just one night.
After a night’s rest, Erin did not allow the soldiers of the Albarez Empire to rush directly into action; instead, she ensured they had ample time to recuperate. Although they lacked supplies, there were plenty of space mages among them who brought sufficient resources.
Of course, Newton would not allow his side to rest easy. When Mavis learned about the enemy constructing a city, she understood that they intended to use it as a stronghold from which they could expand in all directions. If they allowed the enemy to establish themselves on this continent, it would create significant difficulties for them. Therefore, Mavis immediately instructed Newton to deploy his armored units while the kingdom also sent out mech warriors—large robots that resembled monsters. However, knowing the capabilities of the Holy Twelve Shields, Mavis realized that if these mechs engaged directly, they would likely be no match for them. Thus, she ordered that these armored units attack from a distance instead. Unfortunately for them, with all members of the Holy Twelve Shields present and defending a city together, repelling distant attacks proved quite simple; those assaults had no real influence on them.
After a night of fruitless attacks, the Albarez Empire showcased remarkable military prowess with astonishing speed as they advanced toward the nearest city to their new stronghold. However, they encountered resistance; every city had garrisoned personnel set up by Newton. Newton had considered the possibility of direct attacks from these forces but never anticipated that they would resort to targeting civilians so ruthlessly.
"Should we deploy all targeted robots?" asked Ginger beside Mavis. As Ginger was one of the most convenient contacts available, nearly every important figure had a clone of Ginger nearby; others were equipped with communication devices that were costly and individually bound—ensuring that even if someone else seized them, nothing would happen.
"That question is rather obvious; we cannot do that," Mavis replied firmly. "If we send all our robots over like that, it will only result in total annihilation. While we might stand a chance in one-on-one combat due to our advantageous attributes, if all twelve opponents band together, they could easily swap opponents among themselves. In such cases, no matter how strong our robots are, they would stand no chance."
Mavis shook her head.
"However, we do need to deploy some robots because morale is crucial during warfare. Morale and lives are intertwined; if we lose even ten percent of our forces during battle, morale will plummet. Losing a city is inconsequential—we can always blow it up later—but we must save our people."
Jiang nodded, and then all the fastest and largest armored vehicles in the city flew past.
"And then?"
"For their first battle, to boost their morale, they will definitely aim for a spectacular victory. However, you also know that those guys are quite proud, and some of them are not skilled in large-scale or battlefield environments. So on our side, we need to prevent them from sending a few people to infiltrate and assassinate us. On the other hand, I remember that Newton mentioned that every city has its own Guild, and there aren't many things in the Guild, but explosives are the most abundant, right?"
A sinister smile appeared on Mavis's face.
"In that case, let's give them another big surprise. After evacuating the people in the city, you can leave a few bionic robots behind to act as civilians. The enemy will likely send soldiers into the city to seize supplies. At that moment, we can create an illusion that we haven't abandoned this city. When the Holy Twelve Shields' people let their guard down and their soldiers are still inside, we will detonate the bombs."
"Is that really all it takes?" Jiang still felt a bit uneasy.
"How could there be any problems? As long as we kill one of them, they lose a person. If we ensure they don't receive support, victory will ultimately be ours."
