"You're finally back?"
Emerald looked as if she had been waiting for Newton's return, and if one didn't know better, they might think there was some sort of secret affair between the two.
"Please, you should be grateful my wife didn't come along today. Otherwise, just with what you said, I'd be in big trouble when I get back."
Newton rolled his eyes, indicating that such remarks should never be made lightly; they could lead to serious consequences.
"Alright, alright, enough of that nonsense. I'm here mainly to see how well you all are prepared."
Newton then appeared somewhat apologetic.
"I'm sorry; this is our Guild's matter, and we had to drag you all into it."
"Master, what are you saying? You know how much you've contributed to the kingdom. As a kingdom, if we just let others come onto our land and take people away without a fight, where would that leave our dignity? If we can't even protect a Guild, how can we expect the Guild to treat us sincerely in return? Plus, with God's Selene over there, it's practically an act of treason. While we may not necessarily need to confront them directly, we certainly can't allow them to run rampant in our territory."
Emerald displayed a strong demeanor. As a nation, sometimes one must be assertive to establish an image of strength and invulnerability. In the face of invasion, one must push back.
"Moreover, with your help, Master, we are not completely defenseless. First of all, thanks to the technology we've acquired from you, various magical mechanical creations are now ready for use. Although large robots cannot operate autonomously yet, most have pilots. If the Albarez Empire truly comes for us, I will tell them that the outcome of the coming war won't be determined by the number of soldiers. Even in terms of high-end combat power, we have the Holy Ten and my brother's Magic Guild members. I've also discussed with the Magic Council; both Magical Spirit Power and Fiss can be deployed at any time. As long as we set up the battlefield correctly, we can even resolve a significant portion of their forces without bloodshed."
If the Albarez Empire relied on overwhelming high-end combat power, then the Fiore Kingdom was taking a path of technological advancement and sheer numbers. It was like having a level ten Sword Saint and Shadow Hunter leading a massive horde of Tauren against newly emerged level one heroes who had mechanical troops at their disposal. The two sides were different; after all, games and reality are not the same. This was merely an analogy; how victory would be achieved ultimately depended on strategic arrangements.
"By the way, Master, I heard that your First Generation seems to still be around?"
In order to get closer to or win over Newton, Emerald had researched many matters related to him, such as some secret events concerning Fairy Tail and rumors about Alchemy. She was aware that the First Generation of Fairy Tail was known as the Fairy Strategist, a powerful figure who had carved out a territory for Fairy Tail amidst the chaos of the continent. She had also spoken with members of Fairy Tail and learned about Mavis's unique existence.
"So, you hope that the First Generation can guide this war? But I must say, our President can only issue commands to those bearing the mark of Fairy Tail. Therefore, she can only give orders to our members. While we can relay those orders, you know how self-centered those Mages can be, and your soldiers may not necessarily follow our lead."
Newton believed in Mavis's command abilities, but he knew that ability alone wouldn't solve the problem. If orders couldn't be followed during war, even Mavis would find it difficult to manage.
"I have considered this. The First Generation may not be able to command, but I can."
As a princess and a candidate for the next king, Emerald was undoubtedly a perfect choice for a leader.
"What do you mean? Do you want to act as an intermediary? That could work. So who do you want to bring in to facilitate communication between you and the First Generation?"
"No, that's not what I mean. I intend to join Fairy Tail."
Upon hearing this, Newton's expression darkened. Although he regarded Emerald as his apprentice and acknowledged her as half a member of Fairy Tail, her direct admission into Fairy Tail represented something entirely different. The former merely indicated a good personal relationship with Fairy Tail, while the latter raised questions about what Fairy Tail intended to do. Given their close ties with the princess, it seemed Newton was shielding them from scrutiny. Were they preparing to become the state religion? Would they end up like those from the Dark Magic Cult? It was a classic case of going too far; at some point, without sufficient strength, one should avoid meddling in affairs beyond their capacity. The higher one climbed, the harder one could fall, and Newton did not wish for any trouble arising from these matters.
"But..."
Emerald hoped to fully integrate Fairy Tail into the royal agenda. Even though she had become an apprentice, she still felt there was a barrier between them. However, if she became part of Fairy Tail, given their nature, they would surely protect her. This was precisely what Newton wanted to avoid; what if his members ended up being used as cannon fodder? Working closely with royalty was dangerous.
Seeing Newton's strong resistance to her proposal, Emerald had no choice but to abandon that idea. Instead, she would need to find someone else to act as an intermediary.
"Then I will find someone from the Guild to serve as a liaison."
In fact, there was no need for face-to-face interaction; as long as one mastered the ancient texts or simply sent a robot from the Jiang faction, everything could be resolved. After observing that there was nothing else to focus on here, Newton turned and headed towards the Magic Council. The current Magic Council was led by the Holy Ten, which was quite different from the previous bureaucratic structure. Here, Qishi mainly mentioned that war might soon begin. Fortunately, perhaps due to God's Selene's rebellion stimulating these individuals, no one suggested surrender; instead, everyone was actively preparing for battle. With this, Newton felt reassured and returned to prepare for his own matters.
