"Mr. Makarov, Mr. Val is here to see you again."
In the palace, it was impossible for Makarov to meet anyone casually; someone had to announce their presence first. This announcement was essentially a way to check if someone wanted to contact Makarov, as he had become quite important to them.
"That guy..."
Makarov felt quite displeased with Val. It wasn't just because Val had dismantled Ginger; that alone was enough to infuriate him. Val had also resorted to various threats and underhanded tactics to coerce Makarov, leaving him with little patience for this individual. However, no matter how much he disliked Val, whether or not he would see him was not something he could decide.
Ginger was naturally using the body of the Chubby Man that Val often brought out. The expression on his face resembled that of a classic Disney villain, complete with an evil grin; it truly felt like a waste of talent not to have him play a villain.
"What do you want?"
Makarov's face showed clear impatience. Every time Val came over, it was always the same tedious affair, making Makarov feel bored. He figured it would be over soon enough, like having a mosquito buzzing in his ear.
"Oh, nothing much. I just wanted Mr. Makarov to take a look at this."
Only then did Makarov notice that Val had brought a box with him—square and unassuming. Without making Makarov wait, Val placed the box on the table and opened it. Inside was a head... well, a robotic head could still be considered a head, right? Ginger's head was inside.
"You think this will anger me?"
Makarov scoffed. Having spent so much time with Newton, he knew Ginger was a robot. He had even visited the robot factory before; while the human-like face had been somewhat unsettling at first, he had gotten used to it over time. This current situation was simply absurd.
"No, no, it's just that this might put others at ease."
Ginger's tone suddenly relaxed. Just moments ago, he sensed at least five presences nearby, all seemingly there to monitor Makarov. Newton had already anticipated such surveillance and intended to use Ginger's head to draw attention away from them. The original plan was to provoke Makarov into a confrontation so they could incapacitate the surrounding watchers. However, it seemed that this time, the psychological resilience of their opponents exceeded Newton's expectations; merely presenting a head caused all the monitoring presences to vanish. To be safe, Ginger had even deployed all his Surveillance Robots and confirmed that there were indeed no observers around.
"Mr. Makarov, I am here to take you back."
At this moment, Makarov maintained a stoic expression and simply took a sip of his tea.
"What do you mean by that?"
"Nothing much, I am Jiang."
Makarov had no intention of believing this statement. In the past, Val had pretended to be Jiang before, but Makarov had seen through it every time. He suspected that this was just another scheme from the other party.
"Mr. Makarov, it was you who sent me here. The sir is already here and has taken control of Val."
"Old man, do you really think I would talk to you like this?"
At that moment, the head that Jiang had brought over suddenly spoke, nearly scaring Makarov to death. However, it also increased the credibility of what the other party was saying.
"I need proof; I still need proof."
Makarov remained cautious and unwilling to trust easily.
"Let Jiang handle this. I'm currently controlling him remotely. If my magical energy fluctuations are detected by others, it could lead to trouble."
After that, the head inside the box fell silent, while Jiang began to recount secrets that were confidential for Makarov but not for Newton. In fact, there were things that others might not know, but Newton had seen them through the surveillance cameras.
"Enough! I suddenly have a desire to confine you when I get back."
Makarov gritted his teeth; the feeling of being watched so closely was incredibly unsettling. No way—he definitely needed to teach this kid a lesson when he returned.
"Alright then, is it just you and that kid now?"
"Yes, the sir is currently watching everything from a location nearby. Since we are inside the palace, sneaking in is quite troublesome, especially with those Guardian Twin Walls causing so many headaches."
"Who has come this time?"
Makarov sighed in relief; it seemed that things had been developing well during his absence. He was already prepared for retirement here. The incident with Jiang being captured had left him quite troubled, effectively severing his ties with that place. However, he never expected Newton to come over.
"Only the sir. This time, the main goal is to rescue you. If there are too many people, it might complicate things. But we have already controlled Val. With their machinery being widespread in the Empire, we now have a network of intelligence that spans the entire Empire."
This rescue mission was fundamentally an intelligence war. As long as they had precise information and prepared accurate countermeasures for everyone involved, the goal this time was not to defeat but to save. They just needed to avoid direct confrontation with the Holy Twelve Shields.
"So, those potions that have recently appeared in the Empire were also Newton's doing?"
"That's right, but those are just inferior products. Even if they have been developed by them, we now have control over the Empire's main research departments, so we are not worried about these things being used against us."
"Well, can these things really hold back the Holy Twelve Shields?"
"Perhaps not, but our main focus is to deal with the Holy Twelve Shields that can manipulate space. The sir has already prepared a Magic Crystal for spatial manipulation. When the time comes, it will directly teleport us to the shore, where we have also prepared a Vehicle for our escape. We just need to leave at that point."
"Good, so when do we set off?"
Makarov found himself missing his Guild a bit, but now it was time for a life-or-death escape.
