Life for the residents of the Albarez Empire had not changed much; perhaps the only difference was the rising prices of food. What to eat for lunch became a topic of discussion. However, news quickly spread through the streets that a criminal gang seemed to have suddenly emerged within the empire.
It was not unusual for criminals to exist within the empire; everyone was aware of the underbelly of society. But this time, the key issue was that these criminals had come into the cities. At the forefront was a man who called himself the Devil, possessing physical abilities that could take on a hundred men and wielding explosive magic with considerable destructive power. He also appeared to be quite intelligent. Initially, his activities were limited to remote mountain villages, where he used violence and intimidation to recruit others into his organization. Soon, countless people flocked to him. There had been a previous crime lord in the area, but it was unclear whether any agreement had been reached between them. All anyone knew was that after the arrival of this new figure, the crime lord had vanished, and crime in every city surged.
Moreover, more and more individuals were gaining peculiar powers; even an ordinary person could quickly become a troublesome Mage. It was said that these abilities were granted by the so-called Devil, which excited those without power who wished to engage in wrongdoing. They immediately began preparing to ally themselves with this so-called Devil, resulting in his influence growing rapidly as he stirred chaos in several major cities.
The Holy Twelve Shields felt a headache coming on. Although they were nominally direct subordinates of the emperor and guardians of the empire, there were also ministers and officials within the empire. However, when matters became particularly troublesome, it fell upon them to handle it. Leading them was Oghast, though not everyone was eager to deal with such issues. Sometimes members of the Holy Twelve Shields would hide away; this time, only a few attended the meeting.
"Is there really no one below capable of handling this situation?"
Oghast was absolutely loyal to the emperor. Watching as the empire he had been entrusted with deteriorated after the emperor's departure pained him deeply; he was also among the most anxious.
"Hey, I’ve long since passed that point. Just wipe out these underground rats and be done with it! Why give them a chance? Now look what we have—raising tigers to trouble us."
The speaker was Agil Ram, known for his bloodlust. He had killed so many people that he could no longer count them, having destroyed countless nations; on this continent, he was nothing short of a blatant murderer.

The one who spoke next was Jackb Reishuo, who appeared like a gentleman but was equally ruthless when it came to killing. He was a user of Ginger's Assassination Magic and did not oppose murder per se; however, he interrupted Agil because he felt somewhat offended by Agil's mockery of their origins from the underbelly of society. Nevertheless, Jackb had no objections to Agil's plan.
"Then it's settled; Agil and Jackb, you two will go."
Now someone had spoken up. Oghast couldn't care less whether they were willing or not; those who wanted to handle this matter had already shown up. How they dealt with it didn’t concern him either. Even if this approach seemed bloody, Oghast didn’t mind as long as he could present a satisfactory outcome to the emperor—a strong nation upon his return—regardless of how they achieved it in between.
At this moment, Newton's objective was achieved. He hoped to draw out those who could potentially influence his rescue efforts through some sudden events. Even if something happened at the palace, it would be difficult for these two to return quickly without proper communication. The devil in question was Norman. The so-called ability that Norman could bestow upon others was merely a demonic potion created by Newton, resulting in effects akin to a curse. Naturally, Newton could not expose himself; he simply modified the potion's formula so that both Norman's blood and the potion would grant others abilities. However, this effect was inferior to the potion itself, with enhancements to physical attributes and curse-like abilities being almost random and never exceeding Norman's original capabilities. Consequently, people would believe that all these occurrences originated from Norman. Some might deduce that there was an issue with the potion Norman had consumed, but even if they found Newton and he presented the original potion given to Norman, it would not be contagious. In that case, they could only conclude that Norman had acquired something beneficial on his own, thus posing no trouble for Newton. The only concern was whether Norman would be captured and reveal Newton's existence, which would inevitably shift their focus onto him.
However, judging by how these individuals handled the situation—shouting and acting violently—they likely wouldn't delve deeply into the matter. Even if they did investigate, since alchemical potions were managed by Val, and Val was now aligned with Newton, he could easily manipulate things as needed. As for whether Jiang would be suspected, it didn't matter much; the priority was saving Makarov.
Another pressing issue was how to contact Makarov. As for escape, there was no way Newton would leave without anything. Although it appeared he had encountered difficulties upon arrival, he had actually prepared well on the shore. The large ship still contained spatial magic crystals and even a submarine; Newton was ready to exhaust all efforts to escape. However, if he couldn't establish contact with Makarov, even with everything prepared, Makarov's lack of cooperation could lead to discrepancies in their plans. This reliance fell once again on Jiang. As one of the Holy Twelve Shields, Jiang could easily meet with Makarov. Moreover, due to previous research on Jiang, Val had met with Makarov several times and had attempted to extract information related to intelligence from him but had come up empty-handed. Using this reason to approach Makarov should pose no issues.
Newton focused on preparing for their escape while also gearing up for battle. Meanwhile, Jiang had already arrived at the palace and reached Makarov's room.
