Newton's eyes fell upon a mechanical object that resembled the armored suit from Iron Man. The body of Jiang, or what was left of it, had been disassembled, exposing the intricate wiring inside. Nearby, instruments seemed to still be supplying power, and Newton could even see electric sparks flickering within.
Although this was merely a body, Newton regarded Jiang as family. Seeing Jiang treated in such a manner, torn apart for study, made him take a deep breath before approaching. No one noticed Newton as he walked over; many were too engrossed in examining this robot from another continent to pay attention to an extra person in their midst.
Even when Newton stood before his robot's body and reached out to touch it, no one spoke up or found anything amiss with his actions.
His hand pressed against the surface, which felt somewhat worn. This was not due to inferior materials; rather, Newton had used the best materials available to grant Jiang formidable combat capabilities. The wear seemed more like signs of corrosion or cutting. As he fiddled with the severed tubes and wires inside, he shook his head and then walked away.
In the Pharmacy Department, everyone was busy studying the potions crafted by Newton. This brought him a sense of satisfaction; it was a testament to his technological superiority. Many had received the degraded potions he had made and were marveling at his abilities. There were indeed numerous potions available here, as they were quite useful for healing and other purposes, but no one could replicate Newton's level of expertise. The effective results of his creations prompted everyone to delve into studying his formulas and techniques. Although there was some inheritance in their own continent's Pharmacology, it was significantly lacking. The advancements brought by Gold Alchemy led these individuals to reevaluate their own practices.
"Ah, I see now," one elder exclaimed as realization dawned upon him.
Soon enough, various locations began to express astonishment, and one elder after another became engrossed in research. They didn't need Newton to explain anything; just a glance combined with their prior knowledge allowed them to grasp the essence of these potions. However, this was not good news for Newton. While witnessing technological progress was positive, it became awkward if his enemies began climbing the technological ladder as well. Yet for now, Newton's understanding of their Pharmacology remained superficial.
"B, based on my current capabilities, gather all relevant books on Pharmacology that I can access and send them to my personal laboratory."
With that, Newton left directly. Upon returning, he found his room piled high with books. He wasted no time diving into the mountain of texts while also instructing B to fetch some herbs for experimentation.
"Hmm, it seems there are no unexpected issues here."
Meanwhile, in a room unknown to anyone else, Val sat before a multitude of screens that resembled Newton's surveillance room. The entire space was filled with monitors, with a massive central screen displaying scenes from Newton's personal laboratory. Surrounding it were several smaller monitors showing different angles of Newton engrossed in reading.
Rona rubbed her eyes, realizing she had fallen asleep without knowing when. Upon waking, she was greeted by a pleasant aroma wafting through the air.
"You're awake? Perfect timing, I've just finished breakfast. Come and eat."
Newton had already discussed this with Rona beforehand. One advantage of being in the sewers was that the mind was quite sharp, or obedient; Rona understood that Newton was engaged in something dangerous, and she had no intention of arguing against his instructions.
After finishing breakfast, Newton took Rona into his private laboratory. While he prepared potions, Rona immersed herself in learning. Newton explained various pharmacological concepts and highlighted important points to consider while concocting potions. Rona assisted by handing him materials whenever needed.
As time passed, Val finally relaxed his surveillance over Newton, seemingly placing complete trust in him. Only a single screen remained to monitor Newton's every move. However, Newton was unaware of this change. To be safe, he decided to lay low for a week; if they still suspected him after that time, he would accept being caught. During this week, he also managed to grasp the surveillance system and the robots' operating protocols.
"B, come here."
For the past week, B had been by Newton's side, occasionally handing him materials and conducting data inquiries. Unbeknownst to them both, during this time, Newton had quietly completed programming a new software and integrated it into B's system. External tests and internal checks would not reveal that B had been replaced with Newton's robot.
"Sir."
B's voice remained unchanged; Newton had merely altered its internal database. Now he held primary control over it, which was sufficient for his needs—at least until things turned sour.
"Alright, help me modify the surveillance data here and seamlessly insert these few clips."
The previous week's monitoring had not been in vain; Newton had meticulously crafted different movements for various tasks—walking and potion preparation among them—and recorded them all. When the time came for replacement, even if someone like Sherlock Holmes questioned why the footage looked identical, Newton could insert newly recorded movements into the existing videos to create slight variations for the surveillance to perceive.
With this step completed, Newton had carved out a space of his own. Of course, if anyone were to directly invade his private laboratory, he would still need to implement some disguises—after all, one could never be too careful when delivering materials or facing unexpected situations.
"Finally, I can relax a bit."
Newton stretched lazily.
“B, help me interpret the information in this Storage Device.”
This was the Storage Device that Newton had extracted from the robot when he visited it a week ago. It was different from others; the robots sent here were heavily enhanced for monitoring and storage functions, making them less adept in combat or other areas. Thanks to this, Newton finally understood what had happened here.
