There was no verbal communication along the way, and it was understandable. The Chubby Man's attitude could hardly be described as good; in fact, it was downright terrible. Even if Newton wanted to inquire about something, all he would receive in return was a cold response. As for Rona, she was even more displeased. After all, she had just finished tidying up her house and was preparing to sell it to the local residents, only to have her plans disrupted by this man before her. However, Rona was not someone who couldn't see the situation clearly; she could tell at a glance that this overweight man was definitely not a kind person. If they angered him, both she and Newton would be in serious trouble.
Seeing that these two were so aware of the situation, the Chubby Man was quite satisfied. He led them to a place that resembled a secret base.
"Alright, from now on, you will work here. This robot is for you. If you have any questions, look it up yourself. It doesn't matter what you do here, as long as you can complete the tasks I give you."
With that, the Chubby Man tossed a robot towards them and left.
"Code B will be your dedicated Assistant Robot from now on."
The robot thrown by the Chubby Man was square-shaped, looking like a box with tracks at the bottom and two arms that were more like pincers than actual arms.
"Is that so? Then where will we live from now on?"
Newton did not hold back; judging by the appearance of this robot, it wasn't high-end equipment. It would only serve as a query machine anyway, so there was no point in having something too advanced.
"Please follow me."
The robot led Newton and Rona in one direction, allowing Newton to finally observe their future workplace properly.
From the outside, this place looked no different from any ordinary building, but inside it gleamed with silver metallic luster. People walked around occasionally; they weren't all wearing white lab coats like classic scientists from movies. There were also many burly figures, some accompanied by robots carrying various items.
"Is the Accommodation Area separate from the testing area?" Newton suddenly asked.
"Yes, do you need me to take you to the experimental area now?"
"No, first introduce me to this place."
"Sure. This is the Imperial Laboratory. The leader is Lord Val Ischt of the Holy Twelve Shields. Each person's room has an independent experimental space where you can apply for funding from the empire to establish relevant equipment and purchase necessary materials. There is also a large Public Laboratory primarily used for completing individual tasks."
"Individual tasks? Are these tasks assigned by the empire or by the lord?"
"Both. Except for tasks specifically designated for certain individuals, most can be accepted in the Public Laboratory. Upon completion, you can earn a certain amount of points that can later be exchanged for corresponding funds and materials or even knowledge of Alchemy from the empire."
Attracting Alchemists with wealth and knowledge was undoubtedly an excellent method. If Newton were a citizen of this country, he would probably be scrambling to get involved as well.
Upon arriving at the Accommodation Area, Newton realized it was not just an ordinary dormitory but rather a villa-like complex. It made sense; each person had their own independent experimental space, which certainly could not fit into a typical dormitory. However, this meant that the area must be quite extensive. Newton closed his eyes and sensed that countless surveillance robots were patrolling the dark corners around him at all times.
"Even though I've infiltrated the enemy's territory, the surveillance has actually intensified."
Newton glanced at his Assistant Robot. Honestly, he didn't believe for a second that this Assistant Robot had no surveillance capabilities. But could he somehow alter its internal settings to make it his own?
However, now was not the time for such endeavors. He needed to identify all the surveillance cameras in the area before attempting to modify this robot.
"Ding, your mission has been assigned."
Before Newton could even think about modifying himself, he received a message from B. A screen-like interface appeared above him, detailing specific content and requirements.
"A mission right off the bat?"
Newton looked over the requirements for various potions, noting that the quantities needed were substantial and could not be completed in a short time. Fortunately, he saw that there was a month-long deadline to complete everything, but it specified that a portion needed to be produced and sent to the Public Laboratory first. This was likely intended to use what Newton created as a template to inspire others to produce similar items.
"Have the materials been delivered?"
B led Newton to his personal laboratory, where basic potion-making equipment and various materials were already set up. These were all items Newton would need after arriving here, indicating they had conducted thorough research on his arrival.
"Rona, come over here and pay attention. You'll need to learn how to brew your own potions in the future."
Newton called Rona over and closed the laboratory door. He closed his eyes again and carefully sensed his surroundings; indeed, surveillance machines were everywhere.
At this moment, Newton did not plan to take any action. He was still unfamiliar with how these surveillance machines operated; if he triggered any backdoor mechanisms, it could lead to trouble. For now, he decided to control himself and then head over to the Public Laboratory.
Although the potions were diluted and weakened by Newton's hand, their composition and brewing techniques were sound. These were things he could teach Rona without worrying about others learning them.
Time always flew by during the learning process as various potions were produced one after another by Newton. Due to Rona's age, he instructed B to let her take a break.
"B."
Newton called out, and B quickly approached.
"Do you have any requests?"
"Well, I can only produce these potions for now. Should we send them directly to the Public Laboratory?"
"Alright, I understand."
B was unsure of what had happened, but soon several large robots approached and began packing up all the potions into boxes.
"Are they going to the Public Laboratory?" Newton asked, a hint of curiosity in his voice.
"That's right," B replied.
"Next, your potions will likely be used as samples for research."
"Really? Can I participate? If I can chat with everyone, it might help improve my Alchemy skills, right?"
"Of course! All experiments at the Public Laboratory are open to anyone. Now, let me lead the way."
B guided Newton to a large hall-like area.
