"Newton!"
The door of Fairy Tail was violently pushed open, and Natsu rushed in, shouting. It had been a while since anyone had seen him; now, he looked like a wild man with slightly longer hair and a tattered cloak draped over him, but his face was filled with a confident smile.
"Come and fight me..."
"Get out of the way."
A rather bland statement, followed by Laxus delivering a punch from behind Natsu that sent him flying. He crashed into countless people and objects along the way, but Laxus didn't care at all; instead, he looked down on Natsu with disdain.
"I thought there would be quite a commotion with your brain coming out. Just how much have you improved? I didn't expect you to have gotten weaker; you can't even take one punch from me? Have you really been training? Or did you go looking for your dragon again and skip training altogether?"
Natsu found himself upside down, buried in a pile of rubble. Upon realizing that it was Laxus who had attacked him, he immediately perked up.
"Laxus, let's have a fight!"
Laxus regarded Natsu with interest. Despite his demeanor, Natsu was unpredictable; his explosive fighting power was quite astonishing. There was a chance he might end up losing, so it wouldn't hurt to spar with him.
"Sure."
Tiny sparks of electricity crackled around Laxus, while heat radiated from Natsu. Just as they were about to engage, two ceramic arms reached out and pressed them down.
"There’s a designated area outside for matches. If you want to fight, go there. Do you want to destroy the Guild by battling inside?"
Newton finally intervened. It was one thing for the two of them to ignore him upon entering, but now they were planning to fight right in the Guild. If it were just a brawl, it could be managed with minimal damage; however, if they used magic, they could potentially tear apart part of the Guild.
"Newton, we came to..."
Natsu seemed to have lost his mind a bit from training; despite being pinned down by Newton, he began shouting challenges at him. Newton didn’t mind at all; instead...
"Sure, but I'm the President now. Are you really sure you want to challenge the President?"
Indeed, Newton was now in a position of power. Although being in the President's position was usually just a matter of family or management for everyone else, if Newton truly decided to exert his full strength against them, they would be completely overwhelmed. It was reminiscent of when Natsu took on an S-Class mission after Laxus's provocation; he completed the task but still faced punishment upon returning. There was no guarantee that he could win, and losing would only lead to further consequences. Why bother?
"Forget it. Your Alchemy skills are getting more impressive."
Laxus approached the bar, looking at Newton with a glimmer of battle intent in his eyes, yet he refrained from making a move and instead ordered a juice.
"Not bad, but you don't seem to be Harvesting much."
Newton observed Laxus, feeling a tremor even in the face of him. Laxus's strength was undoubtedly on par with any member of the Holy Ten. Newton had already encountered three of the top four: one was the well-known Warged, who wielded plant magic and had combat abilities, though he primarily provided support; he was also the oldest among them and served as a knowledge-based Mage. The second was someone who used indirect blood magic, giving Newton the impression that this individual might be stronger than Laxus. The third could transform into a powerful beastman through beast transformation magic, which bore some similarity to receiving magic; this person felt comparable to Laxus.
By this reckoning, Laxus was indeed equivalent to the fourth-ranked member of the Holy Ten—quite remarkable. This meant that plans to venture to another continent to rescue Makarov should be put into motion. However, one concern weighed heavily on Newton's mind: he had no information regarding that other continent. Although he had ordered Ginger to deploy machines along the way to establish signal towers as much as possible, none had been successfully erected due to either excessive caution from the other side or some other factor. Newton had even attempted to send new robots over to assess the situation, but they went without return; it was as if that place existed completely apart from this one. If it weren't for the fact that those machines hadn't returned yet, Newton would have rushed over himself to see what was happening and what conditions were like on that continent. Now that these individuals were clearly preparing to return, it meant Newton could finally go and take a look.
However, before leaving, he needed to ensure everything here was settled. As for matters concerning the Dark Magic Cult, Newton had no intention of getting involved; if so many people couldn't handle a single Dark Magic Cult, then they were wasting their potential. Ginger could easily manage things over there. As for the Guild's affairs, Newton planned to hand them over to Laxus. While he didn't believe that just because someone became President meant their successor had to follow suit, Laxus had capable people under him. Jett Sting was sharp both intellectually and emotionally; as long as it didn't involve Laxus directly, Jett Sting would be an excellent assistant whom Newton could trust completely.
"Laxus, how about you take on the role of President?"
Newton directly expressed his thoughts, causing everyone present to gasp in surprise while Laxus merely smirked.
"No way."
In the past, he wanted to become President so he could change the Guild according to his own will. But now that the Guild was doing well, what was the point of being President? He preferred taking on missions with the Thunder God Clan instead.
"Alright then, I hereby announce that the next President of Fairy Tail Guild is Laxus."
Newton didn't care whether Laxus agreed or not; it was decided regardless. He acted as if he were forcing a sale.
"Newton, is something wrong?"
Miraj was perceptive enough to notice Newton's anxious demeanor immediately.
"Well, I'm a bit worried about the old man, so I'm planning to go check on him. However, there can't be no one here at the Guild, so I need someone to take over as President while I'm gone..."
Seeing that everyone seemed to want something, Newton waved his hand.
"Don't say anything. This time, I don't plan to take any of you with me. My main goal is to see what the situation is like on the other continent, and it's easier for me to go alone. I don't even plan to bring Ginger along. Of course, the main thing isn't for you to watch over the place; you need to be prepared for battle. After all, the old man is acting as an envoy over there. If I can rescue him, that would be great; if not, then we will have no choice but to go to war."
"What will you do when it's time to come back?"
Erza asked a crucial question. Yes, if others were in danger, what about Newton himself?
"Just me, maybe with the old man—it's simple enough. Don't worry."
Miraj still wanted to say something, but Laxus stopped her.
"Six months? No, three months. If you haven't returned in three months, I'll gather all our relatives and friends and wage war against them with everything you've forged."
Laxus was very determined, and Newton smiled.
"Alright, three months it is."
