In the headquarters of the Dark Guild, a vast office filled with all sorts of bizarre items, from explosive potions to strange armors, resembled a general store. At the center of this clutter was a table, upon which lay a figure with dry, grass-like green hair sprawled out, face down, obscuring any discernible features.
"Knock, knock, knock."
"Come in!"
A person pushed the door open and stepped inside, their face wrapped in bandages, revealing patches of skin covered in dark markings.
"What is it?"
Lifting their head, a pale face with bright red lips appeared before the newcomer—a horrifying visage. Yet the person who entered seemed unfazed by this terrifying sight.
"Ugly Lord, it seems there are many differing voices within the Guild lately."
The newcomer was none other than Mu, who had been by Ugly's side for many years. Mu was diligent and efficient; he would take care of what he could and delegate what he couldn't without questioning why things were done a certain way. He was an obedient executor, making him quite useful to Ugly.
"Differing voices?" Ugly squinted, lost in thought.
"Yes, it seems a book has surfaced from somewhere. It claims that Jelf likes to appear in places of death. Now a large group is clamoring to orchestrate a grand event that would result in mass casualties, hoping to summon Jelf and turn this world into one ruled by him."
Mu succinctly summarized the situation, but Ugly appeared to be only half-listening as he yawned.
"So let me get this straight: a book appears out of nowhere with dubious claims, and people actually believe it? They want to break away and act independently."
The summary was more incisive than ever, which made Mu feel a bit awkward. Normally, the management was mostly left to Mu, and he rarely appeared in front of everyone. Now, with just a single piece of information being passed around, morale had already begun to wane. This clearly indicated that there were issues with Mu's management.
"I'm sorry, my lord, I..."
"Enough, enough..."
Chou waved his hand dismissively.
"No matter how we handle things, those guys from Jelf will stir up trouble whenever they get the chance. They've never been easy to manage under my command, and this time it’s likely that the folks from Regular Guild are trying to mess with us."
Chou wrinkled his nose in displeasure.
"I haven't even gone looking for trouble with them, and they're already trying to cause problems for us?"
"Then, my lord, should we consider this a conspiracy from Regular Guild?" Mu asked cautiously.
"Why should we? Although Regular Guild has dug a pit for us this time, we can turn the tables and use it to our advantage. So many people refuse to follow our management; let's just send them over to become those guys' achievements. Since they want to wipe us out, we can hand these people over for them to deal with. The remaining ones will be our main force. When the time comes, rebuilding a new order for Dark Guild will be quite simple."
Chou's words left Mu momentarily stunned, and then cold sweat began to bead on his forehead. But just as before, Mu would never doubt Chou's decisions.
"Yes, my lord. What do you need us to do?"
"Well, go tell those people that I will not participate in this matter. Those who believe in Jelf can leave, but once they do, they will have nothing to do with the Dark Guild. Whatever they choose to call themselves afterward is irrelevant; they must come up with a new name. In short, they need to separate from us. You go handle this first, and we will wait for the remaining members to leave before addressing anything else."
With that, the Dark Guild began a sweeping reconstruction. No one expected such a drastic turn of events, driving out all those who wished to summon Jelf and even forbidding them from calling themselves part of the Dark Guild. This was quite surprising.
Immediately, many Dark Mages clashed with the leaders, splitting the entire Dark Guild into two factions. A significant number worshipped Jelf, and many chose to oppose the leaders. However, since the leaders had been in control of the Dark Guild for so long, there were still plenty who feared them, leading a considerable portion to side with the leaders.
As a result, while the Regular Guild had yet to prepare for anything, chaos erupted within the Dark Guild. Fortunately, the Regular Guild was unaware of this situation; if they had known, they would have likely attacked by now.
However, this chaos was not without its advantages. It provided Gray with an excellent opportunity to infiltrate. The leaders fought recklessly without concern for resources or losses, using Magical Items and potions that were firmly under their control. On the other side, although they had some resources as well, it paled in comparison to what the leaders possessed.
Moreover, due to the leaders' need to change their name, they actually adopted a new title: the Dark Magic Cult. While there were many strong individuals within this new group, overall they were suppressed by the leaders. Of course, the leaders did not intend to annihilate their opponents; their main strategy was attrition—wearing down both their own excess members and those of their adversaries. As a result, a shift in momentum began to emerge.
At this critical moment, a savior for the Dark Magic Cult appeared: Gray.
This was an opportunity created by Newton's design—allowing Gray to emerge and rescue the Dark Magic Cult at this juncture showcased his importance.
As expected by Newton, Gray quickly integrated into the fray. Subsequently, the leaders began to retreat steadily until they eventually faded into obscurity. Meanwhile, Gray gradually ascended to become the leader of the Dark Magic Cult. The Dark Magic Cult thus inherited the legacy of the Dark Guild and became recognized as villains in the eyes of the world.
"Now we can begin our plan..."
Simultaneously, the Regular Guild also sprang into action...
