Although it had only been a few months since he last visited the capital, the city had undergone remarkable changes. The outer walls were adorned with large cannons, and the soldiers' weapons had transformed into Magical Weapons, their magical energy intimidating to behold.
It wasn't just the soldiers who had changed; the citizens had as well. Following the devastation, the kingdom decided to completely rebuild, leading to a redesign of the capital. The commercial district, Accommodation Area, and the palace had all been revitalized. The capital now truly felt renewed. Moreover, the king had specifically allocated an area for all the Magic Guilds, a designated space for them to gather. The kingdom hoped to draw members of the Magic Guilds onto their side, avoiding future conflicts with the Magic Council.
By the way, a new Magic Council had been established once again. Perhaps due to the frequent destruction of previous councils, this time it was not merely a matter for politicians; three of the Ishgar Four Kings took charge of its formation, representing the pinnacle of all Mages. Notably absent was the first member of the Holy Ten, God's Selene.
However, despite the presence of several Holy Ten members, trust in the Magic Council had long since eroded. The current council lacked the authority that local Magic Guilds possessed.
When Newton arrived, Emerald was already waiting for him. However, there weren't many people around; she had only brought her Order of the Cherry Blossom Knights' leader, Alcadios.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Your Highness."
Newton felt a bit embarrassed; he hadn't expected the princess to wait for him here. Even if he thought she might arrive early, seeing her outside waiting for him was truly unexpected.
"Actually, I arrived early because I have some matters I wish to discuss with Mr. Isaac."
Emerald led Newton inside. Once they entered, they found no one else there. This place served as a meeting venue for all Guilds in the capital and likely contained sensitive information that others should not know about; thus, no servants were present. After all, everyone here was a Mage, and magic made daily life incredibly convenient—cleaning up was a breeze.
Fortunately for Newton and his companions, they didn't need to tidy up since Emerald had already prepared everything in advance. They proceeded directly to the conference room, which was also empty.
"Your Highness, is there something you wish to discuss?"
"Yes, I hope to reach an agreement with you or gain your support. Although I aimed to secure those left behind by the Dark Guild during our recent meeting, I am still unprepared on how to proceed."
Emerald's expression was soft, completely unlike that of a ruling princess; she resembled a girl next door instead.
"So please help me, Mr. Isaac..."
"Alright, alright. It's not as simple as you think to gather those people. I have a rough idea of how to categorize them, but it may not be as detailed as you want. So if you really intend to use them, you must be mentally prepared and establish the appropriate selection criteria..."
Newton taught Emerald like a teacher. In fact, this could be considered a secret. During this time, the king decided to make Newton Emerald's tutor. Although the king himself could teach her, he wanted to strengthen his relationship with Newton by assigning him this role. If anything were to happen in the kingdom, Newton would surely lend a hand due to their connection. However, this arrangement was not without risks; if Newton encountered any problems, the Royal Family would undoubtedly have to intervene.
Emerald proved to be a satisfactory student for Newton. While she might not inherit his Alchemy skills, there were certain concepts he had learned in his previous world that reappeared here, bringing him some comfort. It felt as if this world was slowly transforming into something familiar.
Emerald diligently recorded everything Newton taught her word for word. Although she wouldn't be able to replicate it perfectly later on, she would certainly grasp the general ideas.
Next to arrive was Gerard, accompanied by Nightshade. Ultia... well, at first, Newton thought these two might become a couple. However, it seemed that Melty was too strong; during this time, Ultia and Melty had been getting along famously. To ensure she could stay with Ultia longer, Melty borrowed quite a few valuable items from Newton, making her strength such that even Nightshade had to tread carefully around her. To extend her time with Ultia, Melty clung to her while Gerard found it unbearable and decided to have Nightshade assist him instead. After all, Nightshade's abilities had been honed through Black's training and were sufficient for him to serve as Guild President, helping Gerard manage matters related to the Witch's Sin.
"Have you arrived?"
Newton smiled at the two of them. Recently, everyone had been contemplating whether or not to formalize the Witch's Sin. Over time, Gerard had made his intentions clear to everyone; thus, most members of the Regular Guild had already recognized the Witch's Sin. As long as they reported it to the Magic Council in due course, becoming a Regular Guild was practically guaranteed.
However, Gerard seemed entirely uninterested in formalizing the Witch's Sin. Even though only procedural applications remained, he still had no intention of applying. For him, whether it was the Regular Guild or the Witch's Sin didn't matter; his initial goal in establishing the Witch's Sin was not to create a large guild but rather to provide a place for sinners to atone.
Once everyone understood this, they ceased further discussion on the matter; after all, it was ultimately Gerard's decision and none of their business. Nevertheless, in everyday interactions, everyone treated them as colleagues.
Gerard's arrival seemed like a signal; one by one, the remaining Guild Presidents began to show up.
