Finally, Newton and Makarov agreed that this matter should not be discussed with anyone for now; any requests would have to wait until this situation was resolved.
The Magic Airship was still moving swiftly, and a cube-shaped floating continent appeared before everyone’s eyes.
“Sir, we detected strong energy fluctuations on that object. It’s likely that it is not a continent, but a living being.”
Jiang's report raised Newton's eyebrows; this was even more disadvantageous for their side.
“How many Magic Airships do we have at our disposal?”
“About ten... If we include other aerial units, we can engage in combat…”
“Alright, deploy all flying units and initiate a long-range attack. We don’t have the habit of fighting in the enemy’s territory.”
Immediately, countless armored units flew out from the Magic Airship, and the sound of breaking air echoed as they approached. The Magic Airships did not care whether their bodies could withstand such speed; some were already creaking as if they were about to fall apart.
This time, there was no opportunity for the Gundam to make an appearance. The flight of large machines was quite troublesome; it would be better to let the ground forces deliver them directly later, saving some energy for the machines.
“Alright, attack.”
With Newton's command, the weapons on the Magic Airships and armored units began firing at the Underworld Gate base. However, since this object resembled a continent and had considerable defenses, the bombardment quickly caused the entire landmass to tremble. Newton didn’t know how the demons inside reacted, but watching his side bombard the enemy felt satisfying.
“Boom!”
However, it was clear that the enemy's continent was different from Newton's Airship; there were no retaliatory weapons. Instead, a figure emerged holding a book, his expression neutral. Newton thought that if this person shaved his head, he could easily pass for a monk. Yet this image resembled Mardo Gill, the President of Underworld Gate, known as Hades. Moreover, this figure possessed terrifying power; massive vines erupted from the ground like spears and pierced through one of the Magic Airships.
But Newton reacted quickly. Seeing that the opponent seemed capable of dismantling Gundams with bare hands, he ordered the remaining armored units to retreat while notifying Fairy Tail members to prepare for battle.
“You ants are starting to interest me…”
Hades, whose real name was Maldor Gill, wielded a rather unique spell—similar to thorn magic with plant-like characteristics. Yet this seemingly simple spell unleashed unparalleled power in Mardo's hands. Additionally, he could be considered one of the strongest demons aside from End himself; his combat strength was formidable.
“Ants? Are you the President of Underworld Gate?”
Makarov stepped forward. Even though he was old, he remained President; in front of all members, he was like a parent. As Makarov advanced step by step, his magical power gradually began to rival Mardo's and even subtly suppressed it.
"How surprising it is that there are still such powerful beings among humans. Do you really think you can stop me with just a wine bottle? How laughable. Since you have allowed me to enjoy myself, I might consider making you one of my subordinates."
Mardo's words seemed to offer the other party a great benefit, but all he received in return was a disdainful sneer from Fairy Tail.
"You bullied my child, and now you give me a chance?"
Makarov wondered if the opponent was out of their mind. He waved his hand, sending forth a beam of light, only to have it blocked by something resembling white light. However, Makarov's attack came like a torrential rain, unrelenting and fierce, crashing down upon the opponent. The white light held for only a few seconds before being destroyed, but as it shattered, massive thorns began to spiral toward Makarov.
Newton was startled, realizing that the enemy's base had approached their Magic Airship much closer than he had anticipated.
"What’s going on? Is it an illusion?"
Newton had been trying to avoid fighting on enemy territory, but it seemed that the opponent's plan was to drag them into their battlefield.
"Ice Thorn!"
At that moment, the Airship was already quite close to the enemy base when a gigantic Ice Rose emerged from it.
"Rose Garden!"
Ultia appeared immediately, but unexpectedly, her Ice Magic seemed to be absorbed by something.
"Useless, Ultia..."
Gray stepped forward.
"The opponent is a Dragon Slayer; attacks of the same attribute won't work on him. We need to attack like this..."
Gray formed a massive arm in his hand, gripping something resembling a cannonball within it before swiftly throwing it.
"Boom!"
With an explosion, the Ice Rose across from them shattered into pieces.
"All personnel, land!"
Newton immediately ordered that there was no point in staying here any longer. The enemy was already closing in, and if they were destroyed here, the number of people on their side with mobility in the air was quite limited. At that point, they would likely become targets for the opposing forces.
The artillery on the Magic Airship opened fire once again. This time, Mardo was intercepted by Makarov, but he could not effectively block the Airship's attacks. Under the pressure from the Airship, the demons from the Underworld Gate were unable to launch any effective counterattacks, and soon, members of Fairy Tail began to descend. Each person was accompanied by an armored figure to help slow their descent or shield them from incoming attacks.
This continent resembled a true planet, with grasslands, hills, and lakes above. Once they entered a certain range, it felt as though the gravity of the world had shifted; everyone felt as if the ground beneath them was truly solid earth.
However, even with the armor and the Airship suppressing them, many of the demons' attacks still reached Fairy Tail. Among them, the most threatening were naturally those launched by the Nine Ghosts Gate.
"Boom!"
Lightning shot from the hands of a storm towards Fairy Tail's members, but a towering figure stood in front of everyone, easily swallowing the lightning with an open mouth.
"It's you?"
The storm grew tense.
"Yes, I'm here to settle the score with you!"
Laxus transformed into lightning and vanished from sight.
