The grand spectacle of Fairy Tail, with the entire guild in tow, naturally drew a lot of attention, especially within the palace, where the commotion was nearly deafening. However, none of this had anything to do with Fairy Tail.
On the surface, it appeared that Makarov was leading the team from Fairy Tail, but in reality, it was Mavis who was calling the shots.
So, what about Newton?
"Hello, I'm the new doctor. You can call me Marlon."
A handsome man stood there, looking almost eighty percent like an elderly gentleman, wearing a mischievous smile on his face.
Indeed, this so-called Marlon was Newton in disguise. With the ability to create realistic synthetic skin, crafting a fake face was not a challenge at all.
"Alright, just leave the medical room to me."
This identity of Marlon wasn’t entirely false. After adopting the persona of Ugly years ago, Newton had grown accustomed to creating various fake identities—not just as black or white merchants and beggars. With the production of synthetic skin, it became effortless for Newton to change his face whenever he needed to blend in.
This Marlon was not a mere facade; he was a well-known potion scholar and an exceptionally skilled doctor, proficient in treating various injuries. Leveraging this identity, Newton quickly secured the position of chief physician for the Great Magic Games.
Once inside, Newton ordered everyone else out, leaving only those he had brought with him.
"Looks like sneaking into the palace is a bit more troublesome than I thought."
After all, the Great Magic Games were held in an arena that was quite far from where the Eclipse Gate was located.
"Ginger, send out the probes and check the surroundings."
Dressed in a white coat, Newton toyed with a scalpel in his hand.
"Yes."
A nurse nearby nodded and then went to carry out Newton's orders. Although many probes had already been set up in the palace, it was still inevitable that some oversights would occur with the increasing number of visitors.
"You really know how to enjoy yourself, but your face is quite well done."
Gerard walked in. Since everyone around had been dismissed by Newton, he didn't bother to dress up much and came in the guise of Mister Gang.
"I thought I asked you about this. You don't need to be here; otherwise, you wouldn't be showing up as Mister Gang. Although not many know the true identity of Mister Gang, there is one exception: Mest from Wolf Island, who acts as a spy. He should be aware that Mister Gang came from Edras, so try not to appear in front of him. If it's absolutely unavoidable, then just make him disappear. I have plenty of places suitable for hiding bodies."
Marlon toyed with the scalpel in his hand, smiling at Gerard.
"Come on, I'm not a murderer. But since you even called in the Dark Guild this time, why didn't you notify the Magic Council?"
Gerard was a bit curious; logically, having more help should be better, right?
"Bureaucrats have always caused trouble. If those guys really showed up, things could get complicated. The kingdom's distrust of us is what led to this situation. Can you expect me to trust those officials? Besides, Gerard, you've spent some time there; you should know what it's like inside. Honestly, I can't trust them."
Marlon shook his head. While the Magic Council wasn't exactly bureaucratic, it was practically no different. Sometimes individual heroism could lead to a lot of trouble, but chatting with higher-ups and getting entangled in different class interests would only feel like a waste of time.
"Alright then, what's the situation now?"
Gerard also sat down and looked at Newton.
"You can't seriously be saying that you love your job; being a jerk when you're ugly and a pervert when you're a doctor."
"You have to act the part."
Newton chuckled.
"And this way, it will be less likely for others to suspect us."
Newton gestured for Jiang to bring up an image, displaying various locations within the palace.
"Look, this is the Eclipse Gate."
A massive door appeared before Gerard.
"Our primary target is this thing. It would be best if we could destroy it in advance, but compared to other targets, its defenses are the most formidable. I believe that Rogue from the future will be keeping an eye on it as well."
"What do we need to do?" Gerard furrowed his brow.
"I will arrange a real and valid identity for each of you. My contacts inside the palace have informed me that this time, the Great Magic Games will be quite different, as King Thomas will be the host. We also need to keep an eye on a certain Pumpkin Head to ensure he doesn't get caught up in the aftermath of the battles."
Newton sighed.
"I don't know where that king finds the time to host these events himself; it's quite something."
"Perhaps I'm starting to understand why you are reluctant to deal with those in high positions," Gerard nodded.
"Are there any other points we should be aware of?"
"Yes, if we can't destroy the Eclipse Gate in advance, we might have to face ten thousand dragons. To avoid that, we must ensure the safety of two individuals: Lucy and Yukino Aguria, the Celestial Spirit Mage. They hold all the Zodiac keys, and if possible, they will be crucial in closing the Eclipse Gate. So their safety might be our top priority."
Newton thought for a moment and seemed satisfied. Fighting would proceed as usual; with his presence, he wouldn't let them die, and besides, this wasn't a deadly competition anyway.
"Let's hope nothing major goes wrong this time."
Gerard did not believe that he and the others could stop ten thousand dragons.
"At the very least, we cannot allow a world ruled by the future dragon clan to come into existence."
Newton spoke with utmost seriousness, his gaze more solemn than ever.
"Is that so? Then I suppose I'll trust you for now."
Gerard nodded, donned his hooded cloak that concealed his features, and left once again.
"Sir, are you alright?"
After Gerard departed, Newton began to cough incessantly. Jiang approached him, looking at Newton with concern.
"It's nothing. Just bring me a cup of hot water. Isn't it said that when you're sick, you should drink more hot water?"
Newton's face was pale; at that moment, only hot water could soothe his troubled heart.
