Three months in the world, neither long nor short, and it had barely been three months since the group invited to the Spirit World returned.
Lucy and the others stood before Newton, looking utterly bewildered, most of them fidgeting restlessly. It was understandable; they had nearly wasted three months. Although their strength had significantly increased due to the Second Magic Source, it felt a bit awkward compared to Laxus and Gajeel, who had trained for several months.
"Um, Newton, we didn't know we would end up like that in the Spirit World. Please spare us!" Lucy pleaded pitifully. Beside her, Baruga sat on a washboard in a kneeling position, three massive slabs of blue stone resting on his knees.
"Please punish me as you see fit, Your Highness!"
Lucy shot Baruga a fierce glare before turning her sad eyes back to Newton.
"Newton, don't worry. We'll be fine."
Newton truly didn't understand where Natsu's inexplicable confidence came from. Well, actually... the strength of a Mage is determined by both their magical power and the effectiveness of their spells. In terms of magical power, thanks to the Second Magic Source, they were fine. However, with Natsu's tendency to explode with energy at any moment, Newton felt uncertain.
"Alright then, let me update you on what has happened recently..."
Newton began to recount the events.
"Dragons? It's our duty as Dragon Slayer Mages to eliminate them!"
Natsu was fired up, as he would put it.
Gray had never been reckless; seeing Newton so serious made him nod in agreement.
"I understand. If we start training now, can we catch up to Laxus and the others?"
"You can, but will you be able to endure it?"
Newton wasn't worried about injuries. With their bodies and his potions for recovery, as long as they could hold on and train at maximum intensity within limits, they should be able to catch up to Laxus and the others.
"Of course."
And with that, Natsu and the others plunged into a frenzy of training.
Although the Great Magic Games were just around the corner, Natsu and the others had their lives consumed by training, eating, healing, and resting. This repetitive cycle was driving them nearly mad, but the results were impressive; at least their strength had significantly improved.
After training concluded, it seemed that the kingdom, perhaps to compensate Fairy Tail, had explicitly allowed them to enter two teams in the competition.
"Hah, help?"
Newton scoffed lightly.
"They want to test us, don't they?"
"That seems to be the case," Mavis nodded.
"Even though news of your return has spread, not many know that you've actually awakened. They probably want to see if you’re really back. Plus, Lucy is a Celestial Spirit Mage with the ability to close the Eclipse Gate; they are aware of that too. So they likely intend to capture Lucy and keep that unstable factor under their control."
Mavis's analysis was thorough and insightful.
"Indeed. But this works in our favor; we can send our people in openly while I or Gerard operate in the shadows."
Newton's injuries had mostly healed after three months, but the palace defenses had become even more stringent. Now, even entering would be quite troublesome for Newton.
"By the way, Lucy, if everything goes as planned, you might become the focal point of our battle. And that girl named Yukino Aguria—when the time comes, you should try to communicate with her through your Celestial Spirits. We might need both of you to save the world."
Newton said half-jokingly, half-seriously.
"Okay, I'll do my best," Lucy replied, looking somewhat nervous.
"Don't be so tense; relax. I probably won't be going with you openly this time, but I'll support you from the shadows. Also, I'll have Jang accompany you. Don't underestimate Jang; he's a strong Mage as well."
As for whether Jang was part of Fairy Tail or not, Newton had already brought Jin into Fairy Tail; so why not Jang?
Once they decided to go, the next step was determining who would join them. In reality, this list was quite clear; the key issue was how to divide into groups.
"Then let's decide on the battle teams for this time."
Makarov called everyone who would participate in the Great Magic Games and divided them into two teams: Team A and Team B.
Team A consisted of Natsu, Lucy, Erza, Gray, Elfman, and Wendy.
Team B included Laxus, Miraj, Gajeel, Zhubian, Kana, and Ginger.
In terms of strength, Team B was actually stronger. Even though the members of Team A had undergone intense training, they still fell short compared to Team B, especially since Team B had two genuine S-Class wizards, while Team A only had Erza.
As for the other members, aside from the children and some personnel left behind to ensure that Fairy Tail wouldn't face any issues, Makarov decided to send everyone else into battle. If everything went well this time, they would be facing ten thousand dragons. If they couldn't handle that, it would truly be a catastrophic disaster. Aside from leaving behind a necessary spark of hope, Makarov resolved to go all out.
In fact, the others had little complaint about this situation. Although they were uncertain whether this battle would end in victory or defeat, with the return of the Wolf Island Group, everyone was prepared; all that was needed was the courage to face it all.
This sentiment was similar among other guilds as well. Aside from leaving behind essential personnel, even Sword-Biting Tiger was secretly mobilizing many of its branch members towards the imperial capital under Minerva and Sting's guidance.
If the Dark Guild were to attack at this moment, it would be an absolute one-sided affair. However, how could that be possible? Newton was currently the leader of the Dark Guild, and to ensure their combat strength, he had also sent members of the Dark Guild to the royal capital.
Of course, aside from Fairy Tail marching openly with all its guild members, other guilds only revealed a portion of their participants and spectators. They did not expose all their forces. Thus, what appeared to be a calm royal capital now was merely the tranquility before the storm, waiting for war to commence.
