As soon as Newton entered, he felt as if someone was watching him from the shadows. Initially, he thought it was just one of the guards protecting the princess. However, when he was about to destroy the Eclipse Gate, he sensed a murderous intent that unexpectedly revealed itself.
This was intriguing. If what the princess had just said was true, then this person must be the one who came from the future.
"What's wrong? You can boast in front of the princess but lack the courage to face me?"
Since they were indoors, Newton couldn't use any large-scale weapons. The Alchemy Array formed, and trees parted to reveal a cloaked figure.
"You are..."
Newton was somewhat surprised, as this person seemed familiar.
"Mr. Newton, long time no see."
The figure removed the hood of their cloak, revealing a face that left Newton in disbelief; it looked just like Rogue's, only older by several years.
"Rogue?"
At this point, Newton was at least convinced that this person had indeed come from the future, yet his vigilance did not wane in the slightest.
"It’s me, Mr. Newton. It’s been years; you still look remarkably young at this time. Ah, Ginger too."
"Oh."
Newton nodded.
"I find it a bit strange that you came from the future."
Seeing that the two had no intention of making a move, Emerald let out a sigh of relief.
"Well, this is a long story."
Rogue sat down next to Newton.
"Actually, just like what I told the princess, during this Great Magic Games, the dragon tribe appeared in the end, and most of the people present died in the dragon's attack."
"Why?"
Newton asked directly.
"Don't give me any nonsense; how did the dragon tribe appear?"
This was a crucial question. If they could figure this out, they could prevent the dragons from emerging in the first place.
"There isn't just one Eclipse Gate."
Rogue's words left Newton stunned. He rubbed his temples; although it seemed like an unrelated answer, Newton nodded in understanding.
"So you're saying those dragons actually came through another Eclipse Gate?"
"That's right."
Rogue revealed a knowing smile.
"However, even in the future, we still haven't found out where that door is or who opened it. That's why I came to this era to choose this Eclipse Gate."
"Oh? But the Dragon Clan should have fought in the Dragon War hundreds of years ago. If that's the case, is the Eclipse Gate really useful? Besides, you say it can function like a cannon; how can I believe that? You should know that this Eclipse Gate was made by me."
Newton stared intently at Rogue.
"Well, because just a few years later, Acnologia appeared. It didn't just attack humans but also dragons, like a destroyer. In the end, the entire world was left with..."
Rogue did not continue.
"Left with just you, huh? That's quite something," Newton sighed and then patted Rogue's shoulder in a comforting manner.
"It's alright. Since you're here, it means there's still hope for things to change. So what else do we need to turn the Eclipse Gate into a cannon? Do you need my help?"
Rogue's face lit up with joy as he looked at Newton in surprise.
"No, no, it's fine, Mr. Newton. I can handle it on my own; just don't let this news get out! By the way, I heard that your Guild's Sister Lucy is a Celestial Spirit Mage?"
"What's wrong?" Newton asked, puzzled.
"If possible, it's better not to let Sister Lucy come over. In my future, we actually opened the Eclipse Gate, but Sister Lucy closed it," Rogue replied.
Newton raised an eyebrow at Rogue's words and nodded. "Alright, I understand."
Without saying anything further, Newton left the capital directly.
"Boss?" Ginger looked at Newton, who was humming a tune, seemingly in a good mood.
"Okay, everything is clear now. Ginger, go tell Jin to evacuate everyone in the capital and replace them all with Bionic Armored Persons. At the same time, secretly transport all our armor here," Newton instructed.
Ginger nodded, relieved that Newton wasn't deceived. In fact, Rogue's identity wasn't an issue; Ginger had scanned him with the Electronic Eye and confirmed he was indeed Rogue. However, there was that title—Ginger.
It was important to note that Rogue and Sting had spent some time at Newton's base, during which Ginger had taken care of both of them. Although Newton was friendly, he always gave off an air of authority. While both Sting and Rogue referred to him as Mr. Newton, they called Ginger directly by name.
Even if titles changed over time, Ginger was a unique case; unlike Rogue, who could age, Ginger would never grow old—a fact that Rogue was well aware of.
His reasons were simply laughable. Another Eclipse Gate? Even if it existed, it proved one thing: the Eclipse Gate could indeed release dragons.
He still didn't know where it was, and Newton could ramble on carelessly. The dragon clan couldn't possibly teleport here in an instant; there had to be a direction. With a direction, they could search slowly. But now, he had no idea where Newton was.
Moreover, he mentioned Lucy. Why would Lucy close the Eclipse Gate? Newton had read the detailed introduction of Eclipse; there was a method to open the Eclipse Gate, one of which involved a Celestial Spirit Mage, and closing it was the same.
Could Newton interpret this as Lucy actually wanting to close the opened Eclipse Gate that had released the giant dragon back then? Compared to Rogue, who didn’t even know himself as Future Rogue, Newton was more inclined to believe Lucy.
Everything Jiang did, adjusting all the armor, was naturally to prepare for unnecessary trouble. If several dragons really broke free, it would be quite a spectacle.
As for why they didn't destroy the Eclipse Gate now, Newton, as its creator, understood all too well. Although destruction is easier than creation, this thing took him a year to meticulously craft. Its sturdiness meant that even Newton would have to think twice before attempting to destroy it.
Of course, if he really wanted to destroy it, there were ways—like sneaking in and directly confronting the magical system inside. But given Rogue's demeanor, something might go wrong. Newton decided it was best to return to the Guild and discuss with Makarov and Mavis first; after all, three months was enough time for them to do something.
But just as Newton was contemplating this, a wave of dizziness hit him; his brain felt like it was exploding, his joints felt like they were shattering, and his vision darkened.
“Jiang, tell Mavis and Makarov about this!”
That was all Newton managed to shout before collapsing onto the ground.
