"Hello, nice to meet you. I am the current President of Fairy Tail, Newton."
As they stepped out of the inn, the group found a restaurant and requested a private room, with Newton immediately revealing his identity.
"Are you all from Fairy Tail?"
Sting felt quite complicated about this. He admired Natsu greatly and had always wanted to join Fairy Tail, but due to Rogue's influence, he never did. After Natsu disappeared, that desire faded even more. However, deep down, he still held a fondness for Fairy Tail.
"No, I'm from Azure Wind Antelope. How about joining us?"
One Night straightforwardly invited the two, but their refusal was even more direct.
"No."
One Night was taken aback.
In truth, it was not the right time for One Night to extend such an invitation. After all, they had just been messing around with two inexperienced newcomers in the shop; how could they expect them to join right after? It was unrealistic.
"What do you want from us?"
Sting looked at Newton warily. The word on the street was that Newton was searching for Dragon Slayer Mages, so both he and Rogue were concerned that this might be an attempt to capture them.
"Don't be nervous. I'm just here to ask you two about some situations and see if you would cooperate with me on some experiments."
When someone asks you to cooperate on an experiment, what would your reaction be? You'd probably think they're crazy at first. But what if it were a renowned scientist asking? That might warrant some consideration. Thus, Sting and Rogue didn't show too much resistance. On one hand, their fondness for Fairy Tail played a role; on the other hand, they genuinely felt uncertain about Newton. Although this year's Great Magic Games for Fairy Tail hadn't gone well, it was clear that when the opposing team was present, Fairy Tail came out on top; when they weren't there, Fairy Tail didn't win first place. That alone spoke volumes.
"Why Dragon Slayer Mage?"
Sting surveyed his surroundings, ready to bolt at the slightest hint of danger.
"Well, because you're the closest to dragons, right?"
Newton decided to stick with the truth; after all, there wasn't much to hide.
"You should also be aware of the Fairy Tail Wolf Island Incident. I'm worried about facing Acnologia next time, so I plan to see if I can research the principles of Dragon Slayer Magic and apply them to ordinary Magical Weapons."
Sting nodded; the reasoning made sense, but what was he researching?
"You aren't thinking of dissecting us, are you?"
Newton burst out laughing.
"If you had asked me that before, I might have actually considered it, but now..."
Initially, Newton thought Sting was the kind of person who could kill even his own adoptive father, but seeing his strength now, could he really kill a dragon? Even if it was a regular dragon, the gap between it and Acnologia was too vast for someone of this level to handle.
"Did you really kill a dragon?"
Newton's question left both of them speechless. Sting immediately stood up in frustration.
"Of course I killed the dragon with my own hands! If you don't believe me, we can have a duel!"
"Calm down, calm down. I'm not doubting that you killed a dragon; I'm questioning whether you actually killed a dragon."
Newton's words only paused for a moment, but they drained the color from Sting's face.
"I'm sorry; I know this is rude, but from my perspective, you don't seem to possess the skill to fight a dragon. If dragons could be killed so easily, then the situation on Wolf Island wouldn't be so troublesome."
Newton shrugged.
"So, it really was you who killed the dragon and not the other way around?"
Sting slumped back into his seat.
"It seems I was right."
Newton sighed.
"You must be like Natsu Dragneel, raised by a dragon and then forced to kill it at its request, embedding the Dragon Slayer Magic's Magic Crystal into your body. The dragon must have done this to enhance your power."
"That's right."
This time it was Rogue who spoke up. Compared to Sting, Rogue was more reserved, yet he appeared even calmer.
"Sting and I aren't particularly strong, nor do we possess that talent, so in order to enhance our abilities, they..."
Rogue shook his head, and Sting looked somewhat sorrowful. Raised by dragons, to them, the dragons were like fathers. They were not heartless individuals; the death of a dragon felt like the passing of their own father, especially since it was at their own hands.
"I'm sorry."
Newton felt a bit apologetic; tearing open someone else's wounds was certainly not a good thing.
"It's fine. Just know that your experiments won't involve us lying on some dissection table while you cut us into pieces, right?"
It seemed that Dragon Slayer Mages had hearts of steel; within a short time, Sting and Rogue had recovered. After all, having lived with dragons, their hearts must have been hardened similarly.
"Of course not."
Newton shook his head.
"In fact, it's more about studying the specific operational processes of Dragon Slayer Magic and your combat data. It's similar to a physical examination."
Upon hearing that it was akin to a physical examination, both Sting and Rogue felt relieved. However, they soon realized that the researchers' examinations were quite different from those of ordinary people.
"Alright then, let's proceed with helping you with your research. Do you have any other questions for us?"
Sting shifted his focus to another of Newton's requests.
"Yes, you seem to know Natsu and Gajeel? Why have I never heard those two mention you? And since you know them, do you also know a girl named Wendy?"
Newton fired off a series of questions, but Sting shook his head.
"Honestly, we don't know why we should know Natsu. We just feel a sense of familiarity when his name is mentioned."
"Yes."
Rogue nodded in agreement.
"I feel the same way, and about your Wendy, we think we should know her, but there’s not a single memory related to them in our minds."
Newton nodded and then glanced at One Night, who seemed lost in thought. These matters held no significance for him; listening was pointless.
"Now, for the last question."
Sting and Rogue looked at Newton with nervous anticipation.
"Are you really not considering the Azure Wind Antelope?"
One Night's eyes immediately lit up.
"Don't!"
But just as quickly, the light faded from his eyes.
