Newton entrusted the matter to Gerard and returned to the ruins of Wolf Island, with Jiang by his side.
"If I want to build a laboratory here, how long do you think it will take?" Newton asked directly, having already decided to settle here for the long term.
"If you want it right away, I suggest you construct a mobile laboratory. Although we have detected magical fluctuations here, we cannot be certain that this is truly Wolf Island. A mobile lab would allow us to leave if we find out this isn't the place," Jiang offered a very reasonable suggestion.
"However, I have another plan. We could first create a submarine to investigate whether this is indeed Wolf Island. If it is, we can then establish a permanent base here."
"What if we build a Magic Airship and turn it into a mobile base?" Newton suddenly thought, influenced by previous events. With a mobile base, they could escape if anything went wrong in the future.
"Well, that would be very costly. And frankly speaking, given your current capabilities, you wouldn't be able to create a highly refined and perfect mobile fortress," Jiang was not optimistic about this plan. Even if Newton had plenty of money, pursuing such an endeavor could easily deplete his resources. The key issue was that the technology might not be sufficient, and it would definitely require a significant amount of time and expense.
"True, but... what if we utilize an island and modify it? Wouldn't that be simpler?"
"Yes, that method is feasible. I will search the database now. Eight hundred miles to the south there is an island with terrain and geological stability that meets your requirements."
Newton glanced at Jiang after hearing that remark; he decided to ignore it for now.
"Then take me there."
The two of them arrived on the island. It wasn't particularly large, but it was desolate, devoid of any plants or animals. This was just as well; Newton didn't have to worry about any indigenous inhabitants.
"Alright, Alchemy!"
The Alchemy technique proved to be highly efficient for reshaping the terrain. In an instant, Newton created several spaces while simultaneously reinforcing the walls.
Ginger was responsible for gradually moving items from Newton's laboratory in the Guild. Of course, Jin also contributed significantly, though the people they recruited had no idea what they were actually doing. After all, it was better for fewer people to know about the base.
Along with Ginger came various tools and materials. After all, how many resources could a single island provide? Newton was about to become quite busy with a range of experiments he had already decided to undertake.
"Sir, we’ve made a discovery."
With everything moved over, Newton began to refine his base while Ginger took charge of exploring Wolf Island.
"What is it?"
Newton paused for a moment, still immersed in his experimental mindset. A discovery? What had been found? Wait, if he remembered correctly, he had sent Ginger to look for something specific, so this must be related.
"Are you serious? You're not joking with me, are you?"
Newton found it hard to believe. He was on the verge of giving up because things like this usually took time. He thought it would take ages to find what he was looking for. But how long had it been since they moved here? And Ginger had already found something?
"Yes, you..."
"Come on, take me to see what’s going on!"
Newton immediately set aside the experiment he was conducting and pulled Ginger outside. Ginger sighed at Newton's behavior but led him to the surface of the sea that had been previously detected.
"Sir, it's right beneath us. However, I detected a rather powerful magical fluctuation, so please prepare yourself mentally."
Ginger's words made Newton chuckle.
"What is there to prepare for? I’ve already braced myself for the worst back then, and it turned out just like that."
Newton took a deep breath.
"Alright, let's go down. Let's see what kind of magic our sacred place has used to hide our Mages..."
"It's the Fairy Sphere of Fairy Tail's Three Great Magics."
A youthful voice rang out beside him. Newton was taken aback and turned to find a girl who looked like a fairy standing on the water's surface, having appeared there without him noticing.
"Who are you?"
"Sir, what's wrong?"
Ginger hesitated. Could it be that the sir was so shocked he had lost his mind? However... Ginger discreetly scanned Newton's body; everything seemed normal, and he didn't appear to be mentally unstable.
"Are you also from Fairy Tail...?"
The girl curiously examined Newton.
"It seems like you are quite remarkable. And what is this beside you? Is it your creation, a Puppet? This was used for reconnaissance on Wolf Island, right? Quite an impressive idea."
The girl spoke as if she were an elder praising her junior, even reaching out to pat Newton's head.
"You know everything about Wolf Island?"
Newton immediately sensed a possibility.
"Are you the tree spirit of that tree on Wolf Island?"
"Smack!"
A hand struck Newton's head sharply.
"Who’s a tree spirit? You really shouldn't be thinking in that direction! You rascal!"
Seeing her cheeks puffed up in displeasure like a bun, Newton couldn't help but smile, genuinely happy. As someone who had long been mingling in the library of Fairy Tail, how could he not recognize her? Mavis Vermillion, known as the Fairy Strategist, the creator of the three great magics of Fairy Tail, and also the founder of Fairy Tail itself—an absolute legend.
"Oh, it seems you've recognized who I am..."
"Of course! If I didn't recognize you, that would be a dereliction of duty. Your appearance means that they..."
Newton paused, looking at Mavis with hope, the founder of Fairy Tail.
"They're still alive, right?"
"Of course."
Mavis nodded and gently pulled Newton into her embrace.
"It must be painful to watch your companions disappear one by one. You've had a hard time..."
Newton couldn't help but cry. Yes, he had truly been devastated at that time, completely lost. If it weren't for Ginger telling him that there was still hope for everyone on Wolf Island, he really didn't know what he would have become. Even with that information, it was just a fleeting thought; he had little confidence about whether they were alive or not. But now, Newton knew for certain that they were still alive.
"Sir..."
But just as Newton was feeling sentimental, Ginger directly grabbed his arm.
"I suspect your mental state is in question. Please come back with me for an examination!"
"No, I'm fine!"
"Sir, that's exactly how mentally ill people respond!"
"I'm really fine! President, help me!"
Meanwhile, Mavis was whistling and looking away.
