Newton and Erza walked along the streets of the palace. Last night, Gajeel had been fed various metals, resulting in quite a remarkable outcome. As long as Gajeel could absorb them, he could transform them into his own power, and depending on the type of metal consumed, different effects would occur. Observing this, Newton decided to try feeding Natsu different flames when he returned to see if it would yield similar results.
As for the two Erzas, despite Gerard's advice, they still ended up fighting. Erza (Ai) wielded a spear known as the Ten Commandments Spear, which allowed her to change its form and adapt her combat style, much like Erza (A)'s Requip magic. Ultimately, their battle ended inconclusively. Afterwards, they discussed their plans: Newton would disguise himself as Jabir and accompany Erza (Ai) to calm the king. Meanwhile, Jabir would head to the Transcender's country to inform them of relevant matters.
Gerard was tasked with performing a magical transformation to erase all the magical energy in this world.
Erza (A) and Gray went to rescue Natsu and the others, while Gajeel… well, he had eaten a bit too much last night and was currently lying in bed digesting. Once he woke up, Idiot would notify everyone and decide which battlefield would be suitable for Gajeel.
“Jabir? It's truly unbelievable that you came here.”
A younger-looking man appeared before Newton with a hint of provocation.
“Ahem!”
Newton coughed up a bit of blood but brushed it off. Beside him, Erza (Ai) shot him a glare.
“Shus, do you want to spend a few more months in the hospital?”
“Hmph.”
The man named Shus clearly had some unpleasant experiences; upon hearing Erza (Ai)'s words, he immediately dared not say more.
“Alright, alright, our plan is about to commence, so everyone stop arguing.”
An old man stepped in to mediate. He was Bailo, the chief of staff of the Kingdom Army, known for his expertise with liquid props. As the second-in-command of the kingdom, everyone gave him a certain level of respect.
Shus watched Newton with a sinister gaze; once he obtained infinite magical power, Newton would become useless. Shus had already made plans to eliminate Newton at the first opportunity.
Newton felt helpless about this situation. As he prepared to impersonate Jabir, he had roughly understood his relationship with the kingdom—neither good nor bad. After all, Jabir was someone who rarely ventured out and had little interaction with others. However, he could see why Shus harbored such intense hatred for Jabir.
“A beauty brings disaster?”
Newton discreetly observed Erza (Ai), seemingly coming to an understanding.
Several people arrived at the Control Room, and soon an old man appeared; this was the king, Fauster.
"Jabir, you have checked the equipment, right? There are no issues?"
Fauster looked at Newton.
"Your Majesty, there are no problems. The Dragon Lock Cannon is ready to fire at any time," Newton replied, pretending to be Jabir.
"Good, then it’s fine for me to launch it, right?"
Immediately, a guard beside Fauster presented a key.
"Of course, Your Majesty. I have already adjusted the firing angle and magical power; all you need to do is insert the key and press the button to launch."
Newton guided the king as he held the key in his hand. However, he couldn't help but feel a bit puzzled. Why hadn’t Erza reacted yet? Or why was Mister Gang also unresponsive?
His impersonation of Jabir was meant to give Jabir the ability to act while also being concerned that Jabir might get into trouble. After all, it was unlikely that Jabir would be wearing armor here. If the king turned hostile, Jabir would be in great danger.
But it couldn’t really be launched like this. If the key truly caused the Magic Crystal and Transcenders' island to collide, would the shattered Magic Crystal still be able to restore his companions? Newton felt a surge of anxiety and immediately prepared to snatch the key away.
“Boom!”
As if responding to Newton's silent prayer, an explosion suddenly erupted from one location. Newton felt a moment of joy, but to his surprise, several Magic Guns were aimed at him and Erza.
"Your Majesty, what is this?"
Newton's expression darkened. He wasn't worried about Jabir's scheme because Erza was still here.
"Hah, Jabir, did you think I didn’t know what you were up to?"
The king, at this moment, was in no hurry to insert the key. It seemed that villains had a sense of impending doom if they didn’t act. Like a classic antagonist, the king began to unravel the situation.
"I knew you would betray me long ago, even Erza as well. I was prepared for this. You were the one who helped that guy Gerard, weren't you? What a pity, I've already seen through all of this! Hahaha!"
The king's revelation made Newton breathe a sigh of relief. It appeared that this guy was merely being clever for his own sake. He didn’t understand that those who came from Aslant were not on his side, nor did he realize why Jabir opposed him. What he needed most right now was time.
"Is that so? Then it seems I can no longer pretend."
Newton shrugged, deciding not to feign illness any longer, and approached Erza.
"Your Majesty, are you really so confident that you can use something I created against me?"
Jabir had indeed provided excellent technology to the kingdom, but he also had his own considerations, leaving backdoors in the technology.
"You can give it a try, Jabir. I admit you’re quite clever, but perhaps you’ve underestimated me. There may not be anyone in the country who can compare to you individually, but when everyone comes together, it might just be enough to stand against you."
The king was right; three cobblers could rival Zhuge Liang. The combined strength of the nation could indeed contend with one Jabir, but unfortunately for him, he had been mistaken from the very beginning.
"You’re correct."
Newton nodded as the surrounding Kingdom Army tightened their formation further.
"And do you think I don’t know what Gerard is up to?"
With a clap of his hands, the king revealed that aside from Shus, Newton realized that several of the guards were mere impostors; even the chief of staff had vanished without him noticing.
"I see now. Aside from Shus, who has a poor relationship with me and was placed here to ease my mind, the others were just substitutes because I’m not familiar with them. But what about Lily? Will she help you as well?"
Newton's Lily was a black cat and also a Transcender. However, having left the Transcender, according to Jabir, she should have been quite close to Gerard.
"Ha, of course I know Lily's position."
The King stretched his arms in enjoyment.
"So both he and Gerard must die!"
"I see, so you plan to catch them all at once."
Newton nodded.
"Therefore, Jabir, you can rest assured and go to your death; the kingdom will remember you!"
The King laughed maniacally.
"That's quite good, but you're mistaken about one thing."
Newton shrugged, and the King suddenly became alert. Newton raised one hand, aiming it at the King.
"Zap!"
A laser swiftly shattered the key into pieces.
"Who told you I am Jabir? I am Newton. What do you want?"
