"Flowers for sale, flowers for sale! Sir, would you like to buy a bouquet for your wife?"
Newton had Idiot bring over a cart filled with fresh flowers as he walked past Jabir.
"Ni..."
Jabir felt a bit awkward, while Erza coldly huffed and turned her head away.
"Women need to be pampered."
Newton winked at Jabir.
"Sir, how about buying a bouquet?"
"Alright."
Jabir nodded and prepared to pick a bouquet from the cart.
"Here, take this one."
Jabir froze, as he was all too familiar with the flower in the center.
"This..."
"Happiness needs to be held tightly in your hands. Don't wait until it slips away to regret it. Regardless of the past or future, at least right now, we are here."
Newton handed the flowers to Jabir.
Jabir felt conflicted. He knew deep down that he liked Erza, but he couldn't stop thinking about going home. Once he went back, would he ever be able to return? Could he take Erza with him? He didn't know. He didn't want to leave Erza in pain; if it meant causing her suffering, Jabir would rather keep his feelings hidden.
But Newton's words made him realize that whether he could go back was uncertain. Yet here he was, facing the girl in front of him. Jabir felt that he needed to make some kind of gesture.
Taking a deep breath, Jabir knelt on one knee, holding a bouquet of flowers close to his chest, with a rough ring he had crafted himself resting at the center.
"Erza, will you marry me?"
Erza was taken aback. This moment, this question, was something she had dreamed of countless times. Yet, after waiting and hoping for so long, Jabir had never shown any signs of affection, and her hopes had gradually faded. She had hinted at her feelings for him before, but Jabir had always brushed her off. She never expected that, under Newton's encouragement, he would finally come to his senses.
"You’re not joking, are you?"
Erza asked foolishly, as the situation felt too surreal for her to fully grasp.
"No, I know my heart. I've always liked you. You've been taking care of my life and helping me with my experiments; your presence has long been etched in my heart."
Jabir spoke earnestly.
"It's just that due to some personal reasons, I’ve been afraid to express these feelings. I worry that I can't give you the happiness you deserve. I'm still worried now, but I will try my best. I will do everything I can to make you happy. Will you marry me?"
"Not even a single romantic line? Like 'Only when the mountains crumble and the earth collapses can I bear to part with you'? Idiot! Have you ever read those romantic tales?"
Newton scoffed slightly. It seemed that thousands of years of romantic poetry from his culture were not quite suitable for this occasion; he couldn't very well recite a poem about the "Ospreys" here. But those foreign romantic gestures? They should be put into action.
"Sigh, I guess I have to help out."
Newton sighed and then instructed Idiot to prepare some things.
"I..."
Erza now appeared somewhat flustered, completely lacking her usual decisiveness.
"?"
Jabir looked at Erza eagerly.
"Yes..."
The faint sound, like the buzzing of a mosquito, was barely audible to Jabir unless he was highly focused. Fortunately, he managed to catch those two words clearly.
With a cheer, Jabir suddenly embraced Erza, tossing the bouquet aside.
"Oh my!"
Newton rushed over, relieved to see that the ring hadn’t been dropped.
"This guy is really over the moon."
At that moment, Idiot returned, pushing a cart filled with fireworks.
"Let’s set them off."
Newton placed the fireworks on the ground and began lighting them with Idiot.
The colorful fireworks exploded in the sky, bursting into vibrant hues against the night backdrop. Jabir and Erza, wrapped in each other's arms, gazed at the spectacle, savoring their intimate moment.
Newton handed the ring to Idiot and nudged him, signaling him to deliver it.
"After you give it to Jabir, tell him to kiss her."
Although Newton didn’t fully understand Erza's personality in this world, he assumed she would be quite shy if she were anything like the Erza he knew. Therefore, he decided not to approach.
Idiot delivered the ring, and Newton could see Erza lost in thought, her face lit up with a smile. Jabir looked bashful as he knelt again and slipped the ring onto Erza's finger. Then he stood up and embraced her tightly for a deep kiss.
Click.
Newton captured this moment forever, while Idiot quietly slipped away.
"Alright, let's go. You might need to have a mistress soon."
Newton patted Idiot on the shoulder.
"Actually, in my database, I've already designated Erza as my mistress," Idiot replied, seemingly unfazed by the comment.
"Tonight, Jabir probably won't be in the mood for experiments either. Come on, you should have all of Jabir's experimental data, right? Let's finish up the next tasks."
As soon as Newton and Idiot returned, they dove into the laboratory and didn't come out until Idiot reminded them it was time for breakfast. They hadn't even noticed that Jabir and Erza had come to interrupt them. It wasn't until noon, when Idiot prepared lunch and Newton had already started eating, that they realized Jabir and Erza were coming down from upstairs.
"Hey, you're awake? You must have been really tired last night," Newton said with a mischievous grin at the two.
Jabir rubbed his waist.
"Kidneys are good, kidneys are good," he joked.
Erza, blushing, reached out to pinch Jabir's lower back.
"Thanks, I owe you one," Jabir said as he sat down, looking gratefully at Newton.
"Just one favor?" Newton replied with a chuckle as he shrugged.
"Idiot, give that thing to Jabir."
Jabir was taken aback for a moment, then looked incredulously at Idiot, who had brought over a small object that emitted a faint glow.
"You guys actually made it?"
Jabir could sense that there was not a trace of magical energy within it.
"Should we test it out?"
Newton shook his Mechanical Arm, pressing the energy source against his shoulder.
"Let's eat first."
Jabir's words caught Newton off guard for a moment. He then glanced at Erza, realizing that love or marriage could truly change a person. If it were the same obsessive researcher from before, Newton would never have believed he could say something like this. But perhaps this was what was best for him.
Newton smiled and nodded.
"Alright."
