"Ugly, we are now..."
Laxus watched as Gerard and Erza relentlessly attacked the Dark Night. The twisting magic was indeed powerful, but once targeted, it became ineffective. If one person's attack was distorted, the other would strike, and there was no way to twist the body. Erza and Gerard were both formidable in close combat, beating the Dark Night mercilessly.
"Alright, let's go."
Newton shook his head; he had never intended to acquire this thing called Nirvana. It was too dangerous. Once in the wrong hands, it could provoke attacks from across the continent. After all, the ability to switch between darkness and light was quite potent. However, it must have flaws; if it could be used without limits, then the Dark Guild Triumvirate would have two more members, and there were plenty of ambitious and knowledgeable individuals within the Regular Guild. Why hadn't anyone come for it? Not even the Magic Council showed interest, nor the kingdom—did they not see the value of this magic? Newton shook his head again; he knew the weaknesses of such things well enough. They were hardly secrets for anyone familiar with ancient texts.
"We're leaving now?"
"Of course, unless you're prepared to be besieged by the Alliance shortly."
Newton shrugged and prepared to leave with Laxus when a terrifying magical power surged from behind them.
Just as they were about to react, a horrifying attack struck them.
"Seriously, even the Dark Night has been taken down."
Brian stood up at some point, but his aura had changed drastically. The lines on his face had vanished without them noticing, and his eyes had turned pitch black.
"Who are you?"
Gerard and Erza could sense the brutality and... strength emanating from this person before them.
"Are you two the ones who caused this body pain? Interesting. It seems that without realizing it, you've already destroyed a part of it. But there's still a tangible form? Quite resilient indeed."
Brian stomped down, aiming directly at Newton's head.
"Swish!"
Newton grabbed Laxus and ran.
"Not dead?"
Brian was somewhat surprised.
"Who are you? You are definitely not Brian!"
Newton felt his insides screaming. If it weren't for the Mechanical Arm and mechanical leg, he probably wouldn't be able to move at all right now.
"Oh? You really can take a hit."
Brian merely struck casually, and Gerard unleashed his Seven Star Sword. Erza sent a flurry of swords flying, while Newton's Mechanical Arm fired an energy blast.
"Interesting."
Brian's attack was deflected, but he stood amidst the smoke, a magical shield protecting him from any harm.
"However, it's much more fun to destroy things like this."
Brian's attacks became ferocious. The three of them launched another assault, but this time their strikes were effortlessly swallowed up, and soon all three lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.
"Ha..."
Brian exhaled. The previous attack seemed nonchalant, but he didn't feel relaxed at all; he could sense that his magical energy was significantly depleted.
"Lord Wu, you have awakened~"
Strangely and incredibly, Brian's skeletal staff actually spoke, its tone dripping with flattery as it addressed Brian not as Brian but as Wu.
"We will soon arrive at the Cat Transformation Inn, Lord Wu."
"As long as we destroy the Cat Transformation Inn, no one will be able to disrupt Nirvana again, right?"
Brian's eyes flashed with a hint of brutality.
"I don't care about any of this."
Without hesitation, he grabbed the staff and crushed it into pieces.
"What I want is destruction! As long as I can destroy, that's enough."
He walked out, intending to witness the moment when the Cat Transformation Inn would be obliterated.
"Wow, I really heard something incredible. Hey, if you're still alive, make a sound."
The Alchemy Array rose beneath Newton, and since there were no outsiders around, skeletal-like structures supported him.
"I never thought I'd end up using prosthetics."
"Hey, do you have any potions left?"
Laxus lay on the ground, unable to move, but his face was filled with rage.
"Damn it, that guy actually dared to ambush us!"
If it weren't for Laxus's quick reflexes, his spine would have been shattered. However, this only prevented him from becoming disabled in the future; right now, Laxus was completely immobilized.
"We want to join too!"
Erza shouted as well. What did it matter if she was injured? She was the Fairy Queen!
"And give me some too."
Although he didn't quite understand what was happening, it seemed that Newton wasn't an enemy, so Gerard also spoke up.
"I prepared in advance, but that kind of drug without side effects is no longer available. The medication I have now can restore us completely in one go, but the result is that we'll probably have to lie in bed for four or five days."
Newton took out several vials and distributed them to everyone.
"You talk too much. I called dibs on that one; don't you dare try to take it from me!" Laxus angrily downed the potion.
"I'm going to destroy Nirvana. I'll do my best to see if I can break it," Gerard said, watching Laxus prepare to leave. Although he was somewhat worried, destroying Nirvana was also very important, so after drinking the potion, Gerard decided to head to the control center of Nirvana.
"Laxus, I'm going with you. After all, we need to consider their strength," Erza said, planning to accompany Laxus. Although she was concerned about Gerard, right now, Nirvana was the priority.
Thus, Erza and Laxus arrived at the location of Nirvana. However, they unexpectedly ran into the unseen enemy in the Control Room while Gerard was trying to destroy it. Gerard was overpowered and defeated by the unseen foe, which left Erza in lifelong pain and ultimately led her to a lonely old age.
"What are you adding all those lines for?"
Erza punched Newton, who wore a sheepish expression, while Gerard looked equally displeased.
"I'm just stating a fact. What if the unseen enemy is in the Control Room?"
Newton replaced a Magic Crystal in his Mechanical Arm, and a screen appeared before them.
"Look, this is how Nirvana operates."
On the screen was a massive image of Nirvana with six tentacles.
"Nirvana absorbs magical power from the earth through these six tentacles. If we can destroy Nirvana simultaneously at all points, then it will be defeated. Right now, there are still many of our people on Nirvana; we need them to target the tentacles. At the same time, we should have the Azure Wind Antelope's crew pilot the magic boats; the weapons up there should be able to temporarily hinder Nirvana."
Newton removed the screen and replaced it with a Magic Crystal, adding another Magic Crystal as well.
"I'll use telepathy now, Erza. You relay the message to everyone. Laxus, place your hand on my shoulder. I want to borrow your lightning to see if I can spread it throughout Nirvana to locate Wu."
The two of them began their tasks simultaneously. Finding Wu was already a challenge, but Newton didn't expect that Wu would invade his telepathy. This made tracking him down much simpler, but as a result, Newton was struck hard by Wu's mental force, causing him to spit out a mouthful of blood and become weak.
"Newton!"
The telepathy had been severed, and Erza anxiously supported Newton.
"I'm fine. Let's hurry."
Newton pushed Erza away and downed a vial of potion. This time, lying down wouldn't solve the problem; it seemed he would need to take good care of himself once they returned.
"It looks like I'll need to brew some potions for recovery when we get back," Newton thought as he closely followed the figures of the three people, rushing toward one of the tentacles.
