"Jin, do you have any news lately?" 0

Newton arrived at the Guild and went straight to his office. 0

"None." 0

Jin shook his head. 0

"Of course, if you count the collapse of the Magic Council as news, perhaps what might interest you is that a magazine company seems to be preparing to interview Fairy Tail." 0

"The Magic Council has collapsed, but those councilors should still be fine. Rebuilding the Magic Council is just a matter of time," Newton replied. He didn't believe that the mere collapse of a building could eliminate those old-timers. The people were still there, and the foundation remained intact; it wouldn't be easy to bring down the Magic Council. However, rebuilding would require a significant amount of money and manpower. If Gerard could infiltrate the Magic Council using a Memory Body, why couldn't he do the same? 0

"Jin, go out and see how many people we can place in during the rebuilding of the Magic Council. Also, send a letter to the kingdom to see if they have any plans to intervene." 0

"What about the Guild?" Jin asked, looking at Newton. The Magic Council was a big cake; if it was just him and the kingdom dividing it, it could easily provoke some dissatisfaction. 0

"I'll handle things with the old man at the Guild." 0

Although Newton viewed the Guild as a benefit for its members, he didn't want it to get too close to the kingdom. A combination of strong military power and financial resources could make others wary without even needing ambition. As an individual with ties to the kingdom, Newton wasn't overly concerning for them. However, if a Guild President held power over the Guild, it would inevitably raise suspicions among those in authority. So even when he allied with Zigrein or invested in the Magic Council, Newton always did so under the name of the Guild rather than as an individual. Whatever happened at the Guild meant that even if he appeared alongside Makarov, he could only play a background role or simply be a Mage—nothing more. 0

"By the way, what's going on with the renovations at Fairy Tail?" 0

Newton was curious about this; he had discussed Fairy Tail's construction with Jin before. Since he needed to add his enchantments, almost all of Fairy Tail's construction had to go through him. It was clear this wasn't Jin's doing. 0

Jin looked quite helpless at this moment. 0

"There’s nothing I can do. You know that with the Magic Council's collapse, some people couldn't hold back anymore and decided to start investing—not just in Fairy Tail but also in other guilds that have received substantial investments from various sources. And because of the temporary halt of the Magic Council, many Free Mages have emerged as well; it's like all guilds are experiencing a wave of development." 0

"Development..." 0

Newton narrowed his eyes. 0

"What about the Dark Guild?" 0

"There hasn't been any news, but something unusual is definitely happening, so I suspect the Dark Guild is up to something. Our people have only heard that one of the Three Great Powers, the Six Demon Generals, seems to be preparing for something." 0

The Dark Guild, even if it's ordinary, can hide its Dark Guild Emblem so well that if it’s not famous and has no bounty on it, you probably wouldn't recognize it even if it stood right in front of you. The well-known ones are scrutinized more than the Regular Guild, even stricter than the Regular Guild, making it really hard to get information about the Dark Guild. 0

"Forget it, let's leave it at that. By the way, who is funding Fairy Tail?" 0

Newton shook his head. Forget about the Dark Guild Triumvirate; let the old man deal with that headache when the time comes. 0

"Well, this person is someone you're quite familiar with—it's your Guild's Enlightened Mage, Sister Lucy's father." 0

Jin looked a bit helpless. 0

"It seems that because of the recent Specter issue, Sister Lucy's father has been coming here almost all the time. Due to Sister Lucy's relationship, I can't really do anything against him; instead, I have to provide some assistance. Not long ago, their company ran into some problems and sought help from me, so I had no choice but to lend a hand." 0

"That guy... forget it, I might as well help him out." 0

Newton truly had no way to deal with the relatives of his Guild's Mage. If he were more open-minded, it would be fine, but after Lucy's introduction, Newton really didn't have a good impression of that guy. People can be opportunistic; as a businessman, it's instinctual to seek profit and avoid harm. However, Newton hated collaborating with someone so shortsighted and lacking insight—he was practically a standard example of a useless ally. 0

But after all, he was Lucy's father; Newton could only try his best to help. 0

"That's about it." 0

Jin indicated that there wasn't much else worth mentioning. 0

"Alright then, help me prepare some live chickens and ducks." 0

Newton naturally intended to see if he could use ordinary livestock to create the Philosopher's Stone. From his knowledge, he understood that creating the Philosopher's Stone required human life force and a soul filled with resentment. Life force is essentially the same across all living beings; it's just a matter of quantity. However, finding a soul filled with resentment is not easy—the key difference between animals and humans lies in their rich emotions. 0

Since it's resentment, it naturally involves cruelty. Therefore, Newton didn't plan to conduct this experiment in his lab but instead headed to Fairy Tail's kitchen. 0

Yes, killing chickens in the kitchen to create the Philosopher's Stone—if successful, Newton would probably share a similar fate with some squirrel trying to concoct potions using an electric hot pot. Fortunately for him, as the protagonist of this story, there were no predecessors here; Newton wasn't one of those who would die regardless of what he did—he just liked to occasionally break an arm or leg. Thus, his failures were within reason. However, Newton didn't intend to give up so easily; he certainly couldn't end up becoming part of an evil faction by killing people for the Philosopher's Stone—that would be too reckless. 0

"The life force isn't a problem; the issue lies with the soul filled with resentment?" 0

Newton looked at the Chicken Stew with Mushrooms in front of him, along with a variety of other chicken dishes like Spicy Chicken Cubes. There was no way around it; Newton hadn’t experimented with chickens first. Instead, he had focused on the more robust and vital cows and sheep. These creatures had their life force and souls extracted, leaving only the most basic elements behind. Having grasped the principles well enough, Newton had become adept at slaughtering them, and he had also taken the opportunity to kill some chickens for cooking. 0

“It smells amazing! What’s going on? You actually cooked a whole chicken feast?” 0

Makarov walked in, drawn by the aroma, and upon seeing Makarov, Newton was reminded of something. 0

“Oh, nothing much. Just felt like cooking.” 0

Newton certainly couldn’t admit that he was doing this to refine the Philosopher's Stone; that would be laughable. 0

“By the way, President, the Magic Council is planning to reorganize. The Guild can get involved, but I’m not suited to take the lead on this.” 0

“Don’t worry about it.” 0

Makarov looked quite pleased. 0

“No one is a fool here; I’ve been prepared for this for a long time. Those old-timers are as cunning as old foxes.” 0

“Alright then, old fox, help me serve this food.” 0
