Newton sat in front of the chessboard, gazing at the pieces, then turned his attention to the screen before him, which displayed one battle scene after another.
"Are you not worried about these guys at all?"
Gerard looked at Newton with great interest, as if he had everything under control.
"Why should I worry? Haven't I already made it through? Don't underestimate us from Fairy Tail."
However, shortly after, Erza was sealed. Yes, sealed. The person who claimed to be Erza's brother was a Card Mage, and he had actually used cards to seal Erza before running away.
"My son is indeed an idiot."
Newton was utterly speechless. Blindly trusting and completely unable to listen to others, he was just a child who had never grown up.
"I guess it's kids like him that would stop you from talking, just like that Simon, who wasn't fooled by you at all."
"As long as there is one useful pawn, that's enough."
Gerard nodded at Newton's words. It was indeed true; he was aware of these matters and had even predicted how these guys would react. This situation was not beyond Gerard's expectations.
"That's true, but this guy will only bring Erza right to you."
Newton wanted to shrug his shoulders but found himself tightly bound.
"Hey, how about loosening these ropes for me? I can't write anything like this. Even that bastard author trying to pad the word count can't manage it now."
"Isn't it already padded?"
Gerard kept his eyes fixed on the screen. The remaining situation showed that the owl faced off against Simon and Natsu. After a single glance from Simon, it was instantly killed, collapsing to the ground.
"Which is stronger: the assassination squad or Erza's childhood friend?"
Newton sighed in resignation. Seeing someone get killed in an instant was absurd. Weren't these guys supposed to have defeated Natsu and the others? Why did they look so weak now? Newton suddenly felt that this world was filled with lies and deception.
"At least there's still Natsu."
"I admit, the Fire Dragon's Dragon Slayer Magic is powerful, defeating the Three Crow was expected. But what can be done after defeating them? Once their magic and stamina are exhausted, what can they do when they come before me?"
Gerard's words were true. Although ancient magic could change based on the user's emotions, the total amount of magic wouldn't actually change unless a large amount of fire was generated.
"As for me, as long as Natsu breaks my restraints, I may not be your match as a combatant, but as a support, I believe I can help those guys go toe-to-toe with you."
Newton, however, held a different attitude—trust.
"What an interesting perspective."
Gerard smiled lightly and then fell silent.
At that moment, Lucy and Zhubian also encountered their opponent—a rocker with long hair swinging back and forth, looking just like someone from a dance hall.
"Is that guy rocking out or performing?"
Newton began his usual banter again.
"That guy's abilities are quite interesting, and Water Woman and Star Spirit User were completely overwhelmed."
Indeed, what was displayed on the screen confirmed this; it was surprising that the rocker could absorb liquid with his hair, rendering Zhubian's water attacks useless.
"Absorption? There's always a limit to what can be absorbed. I refuse to believe that guy can absorb endlessly."
Newton scoffed, but just then, the rocker began to play music, while Zhubian appeared to be in considerable pain. After a segment of playing, Zhubian seemed to transform into a different person.
"Oh, so he can manipulate people through music? That's quite intriguing—is it music magic?"
"Now Water Woman has been taken out; how much longer can Star Spirit User hold on?"
"I’m not worried about those guys at all."
Newton smiled confidently.
"Even though those two girls just joined us at Fairy Tail, I believe in them."
Makarov once said that magic is the power of the heart. Although ancient magic was more easily influenced by emotions and became stronger compared to modern magic, today's magic can also be powerful; it's just a matter of difficulty.
As Newton had anticipated, no one expected Lucy to team up with Zhubian. The terrifying amount of water they unleashed exceeded their opponent's capacity to absorb it, leaving one opponent bald, but unfortunately, this guy didn’t become stronger.
"See? I made it through. Don’t underestimate us at Fairy Tail."
Gerard sighed.
"Indeed, as expected from the number one guild in the kingdom; truly impressive."
As for Natsu and Gray, Gerard never believed he could win from the very beginning. He knew enough about Natsu and Gray to understand that these two could easily be the strongest beneath the S-Class Mages of Fairy Tail, not to mention Miraj.
"But what about Pigeon?"
"Pigeon? Is that the girl with the sword? Didn’t Mira go over there?"
As Newton spoke, Demon Miraj approached Shu and took the playing card.
"Who are you! Give my sister back!"
Shu immediately launched an attack on Miraj.
"Not a chance. You’re looking quite pathetic, Armored Woman."
Miraj was completely different from her usual gentle self; her face was filled with madness, as if she had returned to her old delinquent state.
“Armored Woman, it’s a nostalgic title, Mira. Let me out; this is my battle, and I will handle it.”
“What nonsense are you talking about? Your battle isn’t here, is it?”
Miraj smiled as she released Erza.
“I’ve heard about you from your childhood friends. Three Crow or whatever, that’s not your issue. Your problem is that guy named Gerard; I’ll take care of him.”
Miraj charged forward, then paused and stepped back to dodge an incoming slash.
“Your slash is nowhere near Erza’s level. I’ve taken hits from Armored Woman’s strikes more times than I can count!”
When the second slash came, Miraj didn’t evade at all; instead, she braced herself and took it head-on. Surprisingly, under her defense, it only left a shallow cut on her arm.
“Power and precision—you’re both far behind Erza!”
Meanwhile, Newton watched his girlfriend with pride and then teased Gerard.
“Oh, Erza is coming!”
“That’s exactly what I want.”
