“Lord Gerard, who is this fellow?”
The question came from a girl who looked somewhat like a cat, playing with the rope in her hands.
“Ah, this one is quite a big deal. The largest magical item shop in the entire kingdom belongs to him.”
Gerard felt uneasy about Miliana's binding magic. Such magic might work well against ordinary Mages, but against an S-Class Mage? Gerard didn’t think it was a good choice. Although he had already removed the Mechanical Arm from Newton, the binding magic prevented Newton from using any spells. Without Alchemy and with only one arm left, he had searched Newton for all his items just to be safe. Now, Newton was nothing more than an ordinary cripple.
“Lord Gerard, what about Erza and the others...”
Miliana hesitated; among those present, aside from Shou, the others were unwilling to fight Erza.
“Do as you wish.”
Gerard waved his hand. From the very beginning, he had no hope for these individuals. Dealing with Erza? That was something he would have to handle alone.
“It’s quite surprising. What kind of connection do you have with Erza?”
As Gerard dragged Newton toward the top of the tower, Newton tried to gather information along the way.
“This has nothing to do with you, right?”
However, Gerard clearly did not want to share much with Newton. After all, this wasn’t one of those old spy movies where the villain captures the protagonist and then rambles on about their plans, laughing smugly before giving the hero an unbelievable chance to escape, only to be defeated in the end.
“This can’t be unrelated to me.”
Newton grinned.
“You see, Fairy Tail is my friend. I don’t have many friends, so I guess I have no choice but to go all out for them.”
"Ha, useless. No matter how much you provoke me, I won't engage with you."
Gerard led Newton into a room where several people were already standing. Among them, Newton was particularly curious about a rock musician with a forgiving demeanor and an owl.
"Hey, do you guys even keep pets here?"
"Bang!"
The owl punched Newton, sending him flying across the room. He landed on the ground, and due to being tied up, it took him a while to get back on his feet.
"Tch, what a weak punch. Are you just scratching my itch?"
"Gerard, who is this guy? With a mouth like that, let me teach him a lesson!"
"The owl can actually talk? Oh right, I forgot we have talking pets in our Guild."
The owl was furious and instantly appeared beside Newton, unleashing another flurry of punches.
"Haha... ha..."
Newton looked utterly disheveled.
"Come on, just like that! Pets should bark... oh wait, sorry, you must be the cooing type?"
Newton continued to mock his opponent tirelessly, clearly determined to ridicule them to death.
"You’re asking for it!"
Behind the owl, a pair of rockets appeared, already aimed at Newton.
"Alright, just teach him a lesson."
Gerard didn't actually want to kill Newton; he was just worried about what other tricks Newton might have up his sleeve. Although Newton looked like a complete wreck now, who had ever seen a cripple so arrogant? Even in such a dire situation, he continued to provoke others, as if he were begging for an attack. There was something unusual about this behavior, so Gerard preferred to keep Newton close. After analyzing the situation with Ultia and their brief encounter, Gerard realized Ultia's analysis was correct: as long as they dealt with Newton before he could react, it would be fine. Without his Alchemy and Mechanical Arm, Newton was easy prey.
"You all go entertain the other Fairy Tail members. It's enough for me to stay here alone."
Gerard dismissed the others. He could tolerate Newton's taunts, but he doubted the same could be said for the others. If something went wrong while he wasn't paying attention, it wouldn't matter if he got hurt, but if their plans were disrupted, that would be a real problem.
The owls glared at Newton before reluctantly venting their frustrations on others.
"Can you still stand?"
Gerard looked at the fallen Newton and walked over to kick him lightly.
Newton tried to squirm on the ground and found it quite difficult to get up. Fortunately, there was someone nearby. He awkwardly rubbed against Gerard's leg until he managed to stand up straight again, then looked at Gerard's grim face and flashed a bright smile.
"You really are an unpredictable fellow."
Gerard told himself to hold back, to hold back; this guy was definitely trying to provoke him. But surely it wouldn't be a problem to beat him into submission?
Gerard's body moved faster than his mind, and with one punch, Newton once again experienced the exhilarating sensation of flying through the air.
"You really are annoying."
"There are many people who find me annoying; your opinion doesn't change that."
Newton flew over to the table, this time sliding into a chair and sitting down.
"Is this your chess set?"
Newton curiously looked at the chessboard, which was indeed a chess set, but each piece actually represented one of Gerard's subordinates, including those who had just left.
"That's right, I've already won this game."
Although Gerard didn't plan to reveal his plans to Newton, doing things without anyone knowing was quite boring. Most villains talk a lot, often to show off, but they usually speak without thinking. Just like now, this chess game had little to do with the actual battlefield, so Gerard didn't mind sharing it with Newton.
"Won? Not necessarily."
Newton chuckled.
"Erza is our Queen, and Mira too. We have two S-Class Mages, along with Natsu and Gray. I don't think our Fairy Tail Mages are weak, not to mention that girl named Lucy. You know, pawns in chess can often turn the tide."
"Just a Celestial Spirit Mage; I don't take her seriously."
Gerard waved his hand, and all the situations inside Paradise Tower appeared on one Magic Screen after another.
"Since there's nothing else going on, let's see just how far you Fairy Tail members can go."
