Zigrein was quite a young man, and even Newton had to admire him, for it was no ordinary person who could become a member of the Magic Council at such a young age. 0

"Are you Sir Isaac?" Zigrein asked, his tone filled with genuine admiration. "I've long looked forward to meeting you." 0

Zigrein smiled warmly, but Newton couldn't shake the feeling that this fellow reminded him of the tomb raiders he had encountered before—not in appearance, but in the way he seemed to be pondering something inscrutable. 0

"Ha ha, Mr. Zigrein, you are also someone I've been eager to meet. It's truly enviable that you've already become a council member at such a young age." 0

Newton was well-versed in the art of conversation, adept at navigating both flattery and subtlety. 0

"Oh, not at all! I can't compare to Mr. Newton. Your Alchemy is truly the essence of 'gold' making." 0

Zigrein had clearly worked hard to reach his position; both men engaged in a delicate dance of mutual compliments, neither revealing their true intentions. 0

Nearby, Ultia watched the two exchange pleasantries with a smile, amused by how they ended up with nothing substantial after their exchange. Eventually, Newton took his leave. 0

"What do you think of that guy?" Ultia asked, observing Zigrein as he rubbed his temples in mild frustration. 0

"Quite formidable," Zigrein admitted, genuinely troubled. Facing the Holy Ten was one thing; dealing with someone who played mind games was another. It was painful not knowing what cards the other held, making it difficult for him to play his own hand effectively. 0

"Can we use him?" Ultia's concern remained focused on Newton's financial resources. While Alchemy was indeed remarkable, it had its limits. Although she knew she couldn't match Newton in combat, she had gauged his limitations: the actual combat effectiveness of Alchemy wasn't particularly strong. 0

Alchemy primarily altered the composition of materials; the elements themselves remained unaffected. Once created, materials could not be changed again—unless they were some kind of advanced weapon like a Magic Cannon. The rest relied heavily on Newton's own physical prowess. However, if it came down to physical combat, Zigrein was a master of body magic and possessed incredible physical strength. Ultia could see that while Newton might excel against mages who manipulated elements or materials, a pure physical powerhouse could easily overpower him with sheer physicality. 0

"Who knows? Dealing with an old fox like him is indeed troublesome," Zigrein mused. 0

"Let's try to extend some goodwill first and see if we can acquire something valuable from him." 0

After Newton stepped out, he saw Makarov still waiting for him. 0

"President, didn't I tell you to head back first?" 0

Although Newton felt a bit of complaint, he was more touched than anything else. 0

"It's fine, it's fine." 0

Makarov waved his hand dismissively. 0

"I just wanted to chat with an old friend. Have you finished dealing with your matters?" 0

"Sort of." 0

Zigrein was giving Newton a headache, but Newton was also troubled by Zigrein. As one of the members of the Magic Council and a Holy Ten, along with someone who possessed lost ancient magic, how could such a person be content to stay in the Magic Council? 0

While the Magic Council could oversee the entire magical realm, it was evident from how Newton's covert operations had taken down a Holy Ten that the people inside were more like politicians than true Mages. 0

"Could it be just for power?" 0

Newton could only think this way; otherwise, he really couldn't understand why the other party would join the Magic Council. 0

"Newton? What's wrong? What do you mean by power?" 0

Makarov looked at Newton with curiosity. 0

"President, every Guild has its own foundation, so the Magic Council must have one too, right?" 0

Newton wanted to see what exactly made the Magic Council worth pursuing. 0

"That's for sure. Leaving aside our Fairy Tail's Three Great Magics, almost every Guild that has been around for over a hundred years has its own secrets. Not to mention the earliest established Magic Council; they even possess weapons capable of destroying a city." 0

Makarov nodded and then looked at Newton. 0

"What's wrong? Do you want to learn our Guild's Three Great Magics?" 0

"No, it's just that someone gives me a really uncomfortable feeling." 0

Newton shook his head, a hint of confusion on his face. Could Zigrein be a member of some Terrorist Organization? Planning to steal those Weapons of Mass Destruction? Then find a place to shout Akalahuba! And boom? 0

No way. 0

Newton chuckled at himself, but he couldn't shake the concern he felt about Zigrein. If he had thought before that the other person was merely someone he could ally with, now he saw them as an inscrutable schemer. 0

"I need to look into this guy when I get back," Newton thought to himself. 0

"Tch, there aren't many here that make me feel comfortable." 0

Makarov scoffed, clearly displeased with Newton's magic. 0

"That's true. Well then, Specter shouldn't have the guts to take action against us anymore, so we..." 0

"Wait!" 0

Makarov seemed to suddenly remember something and looked at Newton. 0

"Newton, I have an idea I want to discuss with you." 0

"What is it?" Newton asked, somewhat puzzled. 0

"I want to see if we can recruit some of Specter's people." 0

Makarov's words made Newton twitch his lips. 0

"You must be joking, old man." 0

Newton didn't even call him President this time. 0

"Those guys were just our enemies not long ago." 0

"I know, I know, but this is what they requested themselves." 0

Makarov tried to persuade Newton. 0

"Because Joseph has been completely taken down by you this time due to the contraband issue, Specter can't continue either, and even the name of Specter's Mage isn't looking too good. So they can only join another Guild to survive. Besides, quite a few of your subordinates have joined our Guild. You should know that many people want to join us because of the benefits you provide." 0

"What does that have to do with me? Besides, hasn't the review always been your responsibility, President..." 0

Newton suddenly froze. That's right; the review work had always been conducted by Makarov. In these days, only Lucy had joined Fairy Tail. So Makarov's words meant he already had a candidate in mind; he was just trying to consider Newton's feelings. 0

"Tch, do as you please, old man." 0

Newton scoffed, avoiding Makarov's flattering smile as he walked away on his own. 0
