Newton eventually followed the people from the Magic Council to the Magic Council itself. However, at that moment, everyone was busy preparing for the trial, so no one paid any attention to him. Newton wandered around the Magic Council by himself.
"Hello."
In one spot, Newton noticed a man with a gloomy expression and cheerfully approached him to greet him.
"You..."
The other party seemed to want something, but Newton quickly interrupted him.
"Oh, you’re from the Magic Council, right?"
Newton patted the man's shoulder.
"Did you also get in trouble? I did too, but my issue was just going to that trashy Phantom Guild and beating up that Iron Dragon Gajeel before hanging around."
Then, as if he remembered something, Newton completely ignored the man's increasingly darkening expression and continued animatedly.
"By the way, there was also that Four Elements thing. They claimed to be S-Class Mages. I could take all four of them down by myself; they were no match for me. I even destroyed their Guild! You wouldn’t believe how satisfying it was to watch their Guild crumble."
Newton seemed to hear the cracking of the man's teeth as he watched him grind his jaw in frustration. Yet, he remained oblivious to all of this and continued vividly.
"Oh, and I also planted a lot of contraband in their Guild. Now they can’t even defend themselves; they’re just waiting to be punished."
"And their President is a fool—what was his name? Joseph? Or something like Holy Ten? It’s ridiculous that such brainless idiots can become President and part of the Holy Ten. Sigh, the magic world has fallen so low. By the way, what’s your status in the Magic Council? You should really get rid of that guy at the top; letting someone like him hold a title like Holy Ten only lowers the overall standard."
"Boom!"
A black, ghostly figure lunged at Newton's chest, sending him flying and causing the walls of the Magic Council to collapse instantly.
"You bastard! I am the Joseph you speak of!"
Joseph shouted in anger, his magical power surging dangerously.
"Joseph, what are you doing to my child?"
Amidst the raging magical energy, a slender figure appeared towering over everyone.
A massive arm swung down, and as Joseph prepared to counterattack, another figure moved even faster, colliding with his magic. Blood erupted from Joseph's mouth, splattering towards Makarov.
"Old man, don't panic. I'm fine."
Those nine words calmed Makarov down. He observed closely and realized that although Newton was bleeding and looked quite miserable, he was not seriously injured.
"You, Joseph President! Even if you want to kill me, must you be so ruthless?"
Newton quickly scanned the crowd around him and noticed many Presidents and members of the Magic Council present. A smirk briefly crossed his lips before he clutched his chest and looked at Joseph with a mournful expression.
"I’ve already cooperated with you. If you just confess, you could receive leniency. But this is too much! Although I have evidence of your Guild's smuggling activities, killing me won’t help you at all. We are citizens of the kingdom and must abide by its laws. You can't just kill me out of frustration! I came here to help you; this is truly excessive!"
"I didn't!"
Joseph felt like he was about to spit blood. Who was being unreasonable here? It was clearly Newton who had come in and insulted his Guild in various ways, and then insulted him as well!
"You were the one who provoked me first!"
"How did I provoke you?"
Newton looked quite aggrieved, with blood still lingering at the corner of his mouth.
"Besides, you are the great Holy Ten. As a weakling, wouldn't it be suicidal for me to provoke you? I'm not someone who doesn't cherish my own life."
"You..."
At that moment, Joseph was truly on the verge of exploding with rage. His magic flickered in and out, and he wished he could obliterate Newton right then and there. However, seeing Makarov standing behind Newton, coldly watching him, Joseph felt no confidence at all about killing someone under Makarov's watchful eyes, especially with members of the Magic Council present.
"Joseph! My child is merely exposing your illegal activities, and it's just a case of smuggling! Is it really necessary to kill him? Do you have something hidden that we don't know about?"
Makarov seized the opportunity to strike while the iron was hot.
Newton looked at Makarov in surprise. Incredible! Truly, age brings wisdom. Newton recognized that Joseph was definitely provoked by his earlier words, which were meant to incite Joseph into action. If the Magic Council attacked a Mage, even if he himself faced no consequences, the influence of such an act would be quite severe. Even if he didn't die, there would be no chance for him to continue as President of Specter or as a Holy Ten. Once a Mage left their Guild and lost their backing, dealing with them became much simpler. If he could turn Joseph into a wandering Mage, then Newton could easily play him to his advantage.
Joseph felt like he was about to explode. He had originally planned to take down Fairy Tail, but now it seemed he was the one being set up. If he didn't come up with a way to resolve this situation, he would truly be in trouble.
"Alright, thanks to Mr. Newton's support, we have the Magic Crystal here to record everything."
This made Joseph feel relieved, though he cast a wary glance at Newton, while Makarov looked somewhat concerned.
"Is everything alright?" Makarov asked.
"Hah, didn't you hear? That thing is supported by me," Newton replied.
Indeed, he thought that creating a false image or switching to another Magic Crystal would be incredibly easy.
However, in the courtroom, Joseph's despair was compounded by another issue. Newton produced a Magic Crystal that recorded his interrogation of Gajeel, detailing how Joseph had instructed Gajeel and outlining Joseph's plans to kidnap Lucy to instigate a Guild War.
This was a far more serious problem than before. The Magic Council had explicitly prohibited martial arts between guilds, and on top of that, Joseph was planning to use kidnapping? Tragically, Joseph was immediately stripped of his position as President and his title as one of the Holy Ten, and then he was arrested.
"Old man, you go ahead. I still have some matters to attend to."
After the trial concluded, Newton entered a room where he met Ultia and a young man with tattoos on his face.
