After finishing with Laxus, Newton did not return to the Guild but instead headed to the shops run by his subordinates.
"Boss?"
The manager of the shop, Jin, quickly approached Newton.
"Yes, recently increase the prices of items sold to Specter by thirty percent. If there are any buildings or magical formations, sell them the defective goods from our warehouse."
Newton was unfazed; since the other party was ready to make a move, he would play along.
"Boss, won't this affect our reputation?"
Jin hesitated slightly.
"Do you think we need something like reputation?" Newton looked at him with a hint of exasperation.
"Oh, I understand now."
Jin immediately grasped Newton's intentions and even thought of something more ruthless.
"Also, regarding anonymous purchases, we can't control that, but we can investigate. If it involves anyone related to Specter, we can blacklist them and double the prices or make them compensate for half of the Guild's assets. What do you think?"
Newton nodded in satisfaction; his subordinate was indeed on par with him in ruthlessness. However, there was still one more thing to clarify.
"Make sure to handle things with the Magic Council as well. This time, the potential damage could be significant."
"No problem, I understand."
Jin nodded and then looked at Newton.
"Boss, there's one more thing. Your Guild's Kildas... has been seriously injured."
"Seriously injured?"
Newton became agitated. Kildas's magic was Disintegration Magic; even magic could be broken down by Kildas. Every time he returned, they had to replace the specially made floorboards. His strength was undoubtedly second only to Makarov, but someone like that was seriously injured?
"Is he still alive?"
"Yes, but his body is severely damaged; he lost an arm and a leg."
Jin's words made Newton breathe a little easier.
"As long as he's not dead, that's good. As long as he's not dead."
Newton was not joking; he was serious. This time, Kildas had taken on a century-old mission, and a task that had remained uncompleted for a hundred years was no simple matter. Just surviving was a relief.
"Get Kildas the best potions. On the way... never mind, where is Kildas now? I'll go see him."
Newton stood up and looked at Jin, who immediately provided an address.
"Alright, if anything comes up, just let me know through the branch."
Newton picked a magical motorcycle from the garage but didn’t leave right away; instead, he returned to the Guild.
“Erza?”
To his surprise, Newton found Erza at the entrance, carrying a massive horn and looking at him with curiosity.
“It’s quite unusual to see you not in the library reading.”
“No, I had a little matter to attend to. I just spoke with Mira and was about to leave.”
Newton shook his head, getting off the motorcycle and curiously examining the horn on Erza’s shoulder.
“Is this for the monster you’re hunting?”
“Yes. So, can you make me a piece of armor out of it?”
Although it was a gift from someone as a decoration, Erza knew that Newton was very interested in such things. If she could craft a set of armor from it, it would definitely be a win for her.
“Let’s put it in the storage first. I want to examine the properties of this material.”
Newton wanted to study it properly, but first, he needed to check in with Mira and then see Kildas.
“Alright, let’s go.”
Erza exuded an impressive aura; as soon as she entered the Guild, the place fell silent. Even Natsu and Gray huddled together like copies of Haru.
Erza's presence filled the room, and she immediately began to criticize everyone present.
"Mira..."
Newton approached Miraj, smiling as he nodded at Lucy.
"I might need to step out for a bit. Keep your guard up and pay attention to Specter."
"What's going on?"
Miraj looked at Newton, knowing that his outings were few and far between, but each time he left, it was usually for something serious.
"Kildas is seriously injured. I need to check on him."
Newton sighed helplessly.
"Kildas, from the century-long mission?"
Miraj bit her lip.
"Is it dangerous?"
"The mission has already concluded, but it failed. I'm just going to handle the aftermath and help Kildas recover from his injuries."
Newton gently touched Miraj's face, signaling her not to worry about him.
"Don't forget, I'm also an S-Class Mage, and my strength is not to be underestimated."
"Alright, just make sure to come back early."
Miraj understood that saving people was the priority, so she didn't continue to stop him.
"Should we let Natsu and the others go with you..."
Before Miraj could finish, Erza had already invited Natsu and Gray over.
"Hmph."
Newton chuckled as he looked at Miraj.
"Never mind, it seems they are going to deal with the Iron Forest. Let them go; the Iron Forest itself isn't much of a threat, but that Curse Song can indeed be troublesome. Having them along should be fine. I can handle Kildas on my own."
"Wait, Kildas... is seriously injured?"
Before Miraj could respond, Kana, who had been continuously drinking, spoke up.
"Yeah, he's definitely missing some limbs. I still need to check on the specifics."
It didn't matter to Newton whether he shared this information; what intrigued him was that almost everyone seemed more concerned about Erza's team, while Kana appeared more interested in Kildas.
"Are you... close with Kildas?"
Newton's words caught Kana off guard for a moment, and then she awkwardly turned her head away.
"I'm just curious. How could the strongest member of our Guild be injured?"
"I don't know, which is why I need to check it out."
Newton shrugged, then looked at Erza and the others before turning to Miraj.
"Make sure to inform the President about Erza's team formation. Otherwise, I'm worried these guys might end up destroying a city."
"Sure, I'll send a letter to the President. Are you leaving now?"
"Yeah, the sooner the better."
Newton finished his drink.
"Alright, I'm off. If anything comes up, just have Jin notify me."
"Wait!"
Kana suddenly called out to Newton, looking somewhat conflicted.
"Kildas, is that alright?"
Newton paused for a moment and then looked at Kana.
"Shall we go together?"
Kana felt a bit flustered, not expecting Newton to invite her. She instinctively glanced at Miraj beside her, who smiled back at Kana, seemingly unconcerned about her boyfriend inviting another woman out.
"I still..."
In the end, Kana shook her head.
"Alright then."
Newton exchanged a glance with Miraj, who nodded and smiled reassuringly at him.
"Come on, have a drink. That expression doesn't suit you, Kana..."
Miraj handed Kana a glass of liquor—high-proof vodka that could ignite with just a spark in the air.
"Um..."
Perhaps still shaken by the news of Kildas's injury, Kana didn't think much of it and raised the glass to her lips, drinking it down.
